Birmingham produces more empty legs than its size suggests, and we see it on our own board rather than in a brochure. It turns up there regularly, and many of those sectors are flown by aircraft based on the field. That is what a based fleet looks like from the outside.
The reason is geography. Birmingham sits in the middle of England with a three kilometre runway, twenty four hour operation and no night curfew, which makes it the natural place for an operator to leave an aircraft between jobs. Every one of those aircraft eventually has to move, and a good share of those movements carry nobody.

The board below shows what our operator network has released on Midlands routes. Birmingham is one of the more productive fields on it, and the pairings that recur here are unusual: Guernsey, Paphos, Tenerife and Oxford turn up regularly.

Prices are for the whole aircraft and are shown in pounds. Some are indicative figures worked out from the distance and the class of jet; the firm price is confirmed with the operator when you send a request.
Guide prices for the whole aircraft, in pounds, on the corridors that produce repositioning sectors most often. These are not live offers and carry no dates: what is available right now is in the schedule on this page. The charter column is the same aircraft booked on your own dates.

Both columns assume an aircraft already at the departure airport, so no positioning flight is billed. Where an operator has to fly one in to collect you, a charter can run considerably higher than the figure shown. Prices also run in both directions: an empty leg exists only when an operator is moving that aircraft anyway, so the sector you want may run the other way this month. Tell us the route and we will watch both directions for you.
Most empty legs are gone within hours of being released, and a good number are never published at all. Tell us the route and the window you can travel in, and we will message you the moment a matching sector comes up at Birmingham.
Nothing is stored on this site. The button opens a chat with the message already written, and you send it yourself. We reply during office hours, 07:00 to 23:00, and check messages outside them too.
Three things generate repositioning flights here, and the first of them is what sets Birmingham apart from most regional fields in Britain.

What the field can take, when it is open, how the slots work and what happens on the ground.
| Codes | BHX (IATA), EGBB (ICAO) |
| Location | Bickenhill in the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, six nautical miles east south east of the city centre and nine from Coventry. Elevation 339 feet |
| Runway | A single runway, 15/33, 3,052 m of asphalt. It was extended in 2014, which required diverting a main road, and that extension is what allows an ultra long range jet to leave here with full tanks. Before it, the runway was about 2,600 m |
| Aircraft size | No practical ceiling for business aviation. Everything from a turboprop to a Gulfstream G650 or a Global 7500, departing long haul without a fuel stop |
| Operating hours | The airport runs twenty four hours with no night curfew. The private terminals keep their own hours, so a movement outside them is arranged in advance and carries an out of hours charge |
| Slots | Required, and shared with a scheduled operation that handled more than thirteen and a half million passengers in 2025. Your handler arranges them with the flight |
| Customs and border control | On site at the private terminals, available around the clock, so an international arrival clears in the same building rather than in the airline halls |
| Where the private terminals are | Away from the passenger building and with their own road access. You would not know you were at an international airport |
| Ground services | Fuelling, de icing, long term parking, catering from several suppliers on the field, aircraft cleaning and maintenance providers |
| Hangarage | Available, including a heated hangar of around 27,000 square feet at one of the terminals. Worth asking for on a winter overnight stop |
| Animals | Birmingham is an approved point of entry for animals on private flights with a number of operators, through both private terminals. It is confirmed per booking rather than assumed |
Birmingham has four approved handlers on the field, and two of them run dedicated private terminals, away from the airline terminal and each with its own entrance.
A 44,000 square foot executive suite, large by regional standards, with VIP lounges, security screening carried out inside the facility, dedicated crew facilities and a 27,000 square foot heated hangar behind it.
Direct access to the tarmac, an in house fuel team for quicker turnarounds and access around the clock on request. It belongs to an international network that audits its members against a common service standard, which is a reasonable proxy for what to expect on the day.
Part of the largest FBO network in the world, with customs and immigration inside the building, a dedicated crew lounge and maintenance alongside. Familiar to crews wherever they are based, which matters on an aircraft arriving from outside Europe.
Efficient rather than showy, and the usual choice for an aircraft that is turning round and continuing straight on.

Whichever of the two you use, the shape of the visit is the same and it is a long way from the main passenger building.
Plan on arriving a quarter of an hour ahead of a domestic departure and half an hour ahead of an international one. The terminal is not something you pick on an empty leg: it belongs to whichever handler the operator works with, and the name, the address and the crew contact all appear in the flight brief.
Birmingham is mid market by British standards and there is enough competition on the field to keep it honest. The lines that catch people out here are the ones that sit outside the headline quote.
Those first three are why two quotes for the same flight can look different. We show out of hours, fire cover and de icing as their own lines rather than folding them into a single number, and on an empty leg none of them applies to you in any case, because the airport and the timing come with the sector.
There are plenty of airfields within fifty miles of Birmingham. These are the ones that matter for a jet.
Birmingham Airport is unusually close to the things its passengers are actually going to. These are typical off peak times by road.
| Destination | By car | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| The NEC and Resorts World Arena | 5 to 10 min | Effectively next door, and a large part of the reason this airport handles the traffic it does |
| Birmingham city centre | 20 to 30 min | The ICC and Symphony Hall are at the far end of the same run |
| Coventry and Warwickshire | 20 to 35 min | An easy run east. Coventry has its own airfield closer in, for light and midsize aircraft |
| Stratford upon Avon | 35 to 50 min | An easy run south, and the usual pairing for a theatre trip |
| The Cotswolds | 55 to 75 min | Comfortable, though London Oxford is the shorter drive from the northern villages |
| Silverstone | 50 to 70 min | Much longer on a race weekend, when the whole of Northamptonshire slows down |
There is also a railway station next to the airport, with a people mover connecting it to the terminal. Private passengers rarely use it, but it is worth knowing when part of a group is arriving separately, because London is under an hour and a half away by train.

Some corridors throw off sectors constantly and others almost never. These are the first group, and several of these pairings are typical of Birmingham: Guernsey, Paphos and Tenerife appear on our board from here regularly.
| Destination | Flight time | Empty leg from | Peak | Which direction runs empty |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| London Oxford | 0h 45m | 2,600 GBP | All year | Both. A genuine shuttle, and one of the pairings we see most often from Birmingham |
| Newcastle | 0h 55m | 2,600 GBP | All year | Both. Short, and usually available at a few days of notice |
| London | 1h 00m | 2,600 GBP | All year, weekdays | Both. Business traffic, and the sector operators use to move aircraft between the two markets |
| Dublin | 1h 00m | 1,800 GBP | All year | Both. No approved route needed for a dog flying back into Great Britain from here, which keeps the pet paperwork simple |
| Guernsey | 1h 05m | 2,600 GBP | April to October | Mostly outbound. A recurring Birmingham pairing |
| Glasgow | 1h 05m | 2,600 GBP | All year | Both. Domestic business traffic with football and rugby weekends on top |
| Amsterdam | 1h 15m | 2,300 GBP | All year, weekdays | Both. Corporate day returns, released back in the late afternoon |
| Paris | 1h 15m | 2,600 GBP | All year | Both. The standard short European hop from the Midlands |
| Geneva | 1h 40m | 4,000 GBP | December to March | Back to Birmingham. The bargain is the flight home from the Alps |
| Zurich | 1h 40m | 5,300 GBP | All year | Both. Business traffic keeps it alive outside the ski season |
| Milan | 1h 55m | 4,500 GBP | All year | Both, with spikes around the industrial and design weeks |
| Nice | 2h 05m | 6,600 GBP | May to September | Back to Birmingham in summer, outbound in the shoulder weeks |
| Palma de Mallorca | 2h 30m | 7,900 GBP | June to September | Back to Birmingham. Friday out and Sunday back are the expensive halves |
| Ibiza | 2h 30m | 8,100 GBP | June to September | Back to Birmingham, with the best value in June and September |
| Dubrovnik | 2h 35m | 9,300 GBP | May to September | Both. A recurring Birmingham route |
| Faro | 2h 50m | 11,600 GBP | April to October | Both. Golf traffic keeps it running well outside the summer peak |
| Malaga | 2h 55m | 11,600 GBP | April to October | Both. A long season and a steady supply of returns |
| Santorini | 3h 50m | 11,900 GBP | May to September | Both. Low frequency, large saving when it appears |
| Tenerife | 4h 10m | 12,900 GBP | November to March | Both. The winter sun corridor, and the reason January is busy here |
| Paphos | 4h 35m | 14,200 GBP | All year | Both. A steady Birmingham pairing driven by property and family travel |
| Dubai | 7h 10m | 41,500 GBP | November to March | Both. Low frequency from the Midlands, but a single sector saves a great deal |
The winter entries are the ones worth marking. While the rest of Britain is quiet in January and February, the Canaries and Cyprus corridors are working hard from the Midlands, which means sectors keep appearing here when they have dried up elsewhere.

If you want to see what your route would cost as a standard charter, so you have something to measure an empty leg against, use the calculator below. Fill in the airports, the dates and the number of passengers, add any preference on aircraft type, and we will send a written calculation by email or messenger. Please check your contact details carefully so that we can reply quickly.
The figure the calculator returns is an estimate for planning. The firm quote comes back from our consultants with the cost broken out line by line, and the price agreed there is the price written into the contract.

If you would rather skip the arithmetic, send us the route and the dates instead and a consultant will come back with both numbers, the charter price and any empty leg that fits.
The formalities are the same as at any British airport, and at this one they happen inside the private terminal rather than in the public halls.

Birmingham has a flatter year than most British cities, because its traffic is driven by the exhibition calendar and by winter sun rather than by a single summer season. That is good news: the quiet months elsewhere are not quiet here.
September, March, October and January are the months to aim for, and January is the one that surprises people. While the rest of the country is at its quietest, the Canaries corridor is running hard out of Birmingham and the exhibition halls have reopened, so sectors keep appearing when they have dried up elsewhere.
Tell us your route - we'll respond within the hour.
Birmingham is well placed for this, because it is an approved point of entry for animals on private flights with a number of operators. That means a dog coming back from Europe can often land here rather than routing through the south and continuing by road.

The underlying conditions do not change and they are checked for every booking rather than assumed: the operator has to hold the relevant approval and the route has to be an approved one. Departing, the requirements are those of your destination instead. Tell us about the animal in the first message and we will confirm what applies to your particular routing before anything is committed.
