Empty leg flights to and from Figari

Figari is the airport for the south of Corsica: Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio, the beaches of Palombaggia and Santa Giulia, the island of Cavallo and the villas in the maquis between them. It is a small airport with a big summer. In 2025 it handled a record 914,000 passengers, most of them between June and September, and it takes the largest share of the private flying on the island.

It is also one of the hardest airports in France at which to keep a private jet. In high summer the apron takes quick turns and very little else, so an aircraft that brings a family to Porto-Vecchio usually leaves the same day and comes back for them later. Those flights are the raw material of the board below.

The Figari board as it stands today

The board shows every released sector that starts or ends at Figari. Below it is the charter list, with the full price of the same cabins for a trip between Britain and Figari on dates of your own, which is the figure an empty leg has to beat to be worth taking.

Ask us what is available at Figari right now.

This board refreshes through the day as operators release sectors, and it shows only part of the market: a large share of repositioning flights never reach a public list at all. Check back shortly, or tell us your route and dates and we will look at what operators are holding at this moment.

Both columns assume an aircraft already at the departure airport, so no positioning flight is billed. Where an operator has to fly one in to collect you, a charter can run considerably higher than the figure shown. Prices also run in both directions: an empty leg exists only when an operator is moving that aircraft anyway, so the sector you want may run the other way this month. Tell us the route and we will watch both directions for you.

Why Figari produces empty legs

Few airports in Europe turn out as many empty sectors for their size, and the reasons are the apron, the season and the way people holiday in the south of Corsica.

An apron that will not keep them
In July and August the private stands at Figari are for quick turns: long stays are unlikely and overnight parking is rarely granted. An aircraft that lands with a family therefore flies out again within the hour, to Ajaccio, Olbia, Nice or home, and flies back empty when the holiday ends. Two of the four flights in every such trip carry nobody.
Villa and hotel weeks
The south of the island lets by the week, from the villas above Porto-Vecchio to the hotels at Palombaggia and on Cavallo, and Saturday is the usual changeover. Aircraft arrive and depart in waves at the weekend, and each wave leaves a trail of positioning flights behind it.
Yachts in the strait
Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio and Cavallo are the Corsican end of a cruising ground that runs across the strait to the Maddalena islands and Porto Cervo. Guests join a boat on one side and leave it on the other, so aircraft drop at Figari and collect at Olbia, or the other way round, and fly the missing leg empty.
A short, sharp season
Most of the private flying happens between June and September. Operators bring aircraft from all over Europe for those months and take them away again afterwards, which puts sectors on sale at both ends of the summer as well as in the middle of it.
A strong British connection
British Airways from Heathrow and easyJet from Gatwick both fly to Figari in summer, which says a good deal about how many British families holiday here. Private flying follows the same pattern, and the sectors that run home empty from the island often run to the London airports.

Supply starts with the spring holidays and the first warm weekends of May, builds through June, peaks in July and August and holds into September. From November to March the airport is quiet and the board with it.

Private jet on the apron at Figari Sud Corse airport

Figari Sud Corse Airport in detail

The airport opened on 22 July 1975 on a plateau of maquis behind the village of Figari. Since 1 January 2026 it has been run by the Établissement public du commerce et de l'industrie de Corse, which took over from the island's Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The passenger terminal was designed in the 1990s for about 550,000 passengers a year and now handles well over 900,000, which explains most of what a visitor notices in August.

Codes FSC (IATA) and LFKF (ICAO)
Where it sits On a plateau 3 kilometres north west of Figari village, about 22 kilometres from Bonifacio and 25 kilometres from Porto-Vecchio by road
Operator The Établissement public du commerce et de l'industrie de Corse, successor since January 2026 to the CCI de Corse
Elevation 85 feet, or about 26 metres
Reference temperature 30.3 degrees Celsius
Runway 05 and 23, 2,480 by 45 metres. The distance available for takeoff is 2,480 metres on runway 05 and 2,420 metres on runway 23, and the landing distance is 2,420 metres in both directions
Runway strength PCN 69 on a flexible surface, enough for any business jet and for the Airbus and Boeing jets of the scheduled airlines
Private apron About 32,000 square metres with 18 stands for aircraft and 5 for helicopters, beside a commercial apron of 9 stands. The main taxiway takes a wingspan of up to 36 metres and the others up to 24 metres, so the largest long range jets can use only the stands reached by the main taxiway
Tower hours In summer from 06:45 to 23:00 local time and in winter from 06:45 to 22:00, published by NOTAM, and fire cover to category 7 while the tower is open
Border police For international flights from 06:00 to 17:00 local time in summer and from 05:00 to 16:00 in winter, with 48 hours' notice, though the tower itself opens at 06:45. Customs work until 18:00 on the same notice. Ajaccio keeps its border police round the clock
Fuel Jet A1 from a 300 cubic metre tank and two trucks, and Avgas 100LL, from 06:00 to 22:00 local time in summer, with later service on request for a departure booked after 22:00
Private flights Prior permission is required from the airport operator for every general and business aviation flight, and in summer the slot has to be obtained as well
Slot status Fully coordinated, Level 3, for the summer season, which runs from 29 March to 24 October in 2026. Private operators ask for slots through their handler
Handling Scala Handling is the handler listed for the airport
Helicopters A landing area of 15 by 15 metres for helicopters of up to 3,585 kilograms, usable in daylight only, and 5 helicopter stands
Traffic A record 914,000 passengers in 2025 and 34 scheduled routes in summer

The approach is the part crews talk about. Runway 05 is turbulent on final whatever the wind, and in a moderate or strong westerly or north westerly an approach to runway 23 can meet strong to very strong turbulence and wind shear, and should not be started above a wind of 25 knots gusting 35. Mont Caldarello, 1.7 nautical miles south west of the field, is lit at night as an obstacle, and the approach slope lights keep aircraft clear of it. Experienced crews handle all this routinely in summer, but it is the reason Figari now and then sends an arrival to Ajaccio on a day of strong mistral.

How long a private aircraft may stay

This is the question that shapes every private trip to the south of Corsica, and in summer the answer is: not for long.

The rule
Parking only with permission
Every private flight needs the prior permission of the airport operator, and the permission covers the stand as well as the landing. The airport publishes no fixed maximum stay. What it grants depends on the apron on the day.
The practice
A quick turn in July and August
In summer 2026 Figari was the most restrictive airport in Corsica for private aircraft, generally allowing only quick turns with no long term parking. Exceptions exist: in 2025 a large Gulfstream was granted four nights at the end of July after a request made in late May. Such exceptions come from very early requests and are not something to count on.
The slots
Level 3 from March to October
In the summer season every movement needs a slot, and the capacity is small. The handler files the slot request with the permission, and the flight plan has to match it, so a change of timing on the day is not always possible.
The tower
Fewer controllers than the traffic needs
The tower is staffed by 12 controllers, and 16 movements have been cancelled or diverted since 2025 because the tower had to close when the controllers' working hours ran out. On 10 July 2026 Gilles Simeoni, as head of the airport's operator, wrote to the transport minister asking for 15 controllers and longer hours, from 06:00 to midnight in summer and to 23:00 in winter. Until that happens, a late evening arrival is the one to avoid.
The border
Daytime only for flights from the UK
The border police at Figari cover international flights from 06:00 to 17:00 local time in summer and want 48 hours' notice, and with the tower opening at 06:45 the real window starts then. A flight from London that cannot land in that window clears at Ajaccio, where the police work round the clock, and makes the short hop south afterwards.
The alternative
Somewhere else to wait
When Figari will not keep an aircraft, it goes to Ajaccio, to Bastia, across the strait to Olbia or back to the mainland, wherever the handler finds a stand. Each of those repositioning flights is empty, and many of them are the sectors on our board.

For a client this means a trip to Figari is almost always planned as a drop and a collection, with the aircraft away in between. That costs more than a trip where the jet can wait, and it is exactly why empty legs are so common here.

Figari against the other airports for the south of the island

Corsica has four airports with scheduled flights, and Olbia in Sardinia is almost as close to Bonifacio as Ajaccio is. The parking notes reflect summer 2026.

Airport Runway Private parking in summer From Porto-Vecchio
Figari, FSC 2,480 metres Quick turns only, overnight unlikely About 30 minutes by road
Ajaccio, AJA About 2,400 metres Slots and permission required, and parking depends on the day About 2h 15m by road
Bastia, BIA About 2,500 metres Limited, a little more flexible than Figari About two hours by road
Calvi, CLY About 2,300 metres Subject to approval and often refused More than three hours by road
Olbia, OLB About 2,750 metres A private terminal of its own, busy but larger A ferry from Bonifacio and a drive, or about 20 minutes by helicopter from Figari

Figari wins on distance by a long way for anyone staying between Porto-Vecchio and Bonifacio. The others matter as places for the aircraft to wait, and Olbia as the other half of a trip that crosses the strait.

What we do when we book a flight to Figari

  • Plan for a drop and a collection. We price the trip with the aircraft leaving after the drop and coming back for the return, and we ask for a longer stay only when the dates make it realistic.
  • Land inside the border hours. A flight from the UK is timed to reach Figari between 06:45, when the tower opens, and 17:00 local time in summer, and the 48 hours' notice goes in with the permission.
  • Avoid the tower's last hour. Late evening arrivals are the ones most exposed to a tower closing early, so we keep a margin and name Ajaccio as the fallback.
  • File early for August. Permission and slots go in as soon as the dates are fixed, because the stands and the slots fill up weeks ahead.
  • Book the car or the helicopter with the flight. The driver or the pilot works to the aircraft's actual arrival rather than the planned time, and in August a helicopter can save half an hour or more on the road to Porto-Vecchio.
  • Watch the mistral. A strong westerly makes the approach rough and occasionally impossible, and on those days we would rather move a departure by a few hours than divert.

Private jet cabin on a flight to Figari

What a private passenger meets at Figari

Figari has something most island airports of its size do not: a building of its own for private flights. It is small and simple, and the airline terminal beside it is crowded in summer, but a private party that is well handled spends very little time in either.

The private terminal of 2013
Opened in June 2013, it is a building on two levels with a footprint of about 230 square metres, standing beside the private apron away from the main terminal. Private passengers and crews are received there and the handler works from it. It is a place to pass through rather than to spend an afternoon, which is how most people use it.
The handler
Scala Handling, the handler listed for Figari, files the permission and the slot, meets the aircraft, takes passengers and bags between the terminal and the steps, and arranges fuel, catering and the car.
Your own car park
The airport keeps its P2 car park for clients of the business aviation terminal and for airport staff, so a chauffeur waits a few steps from the door rather than in the public car parks. Parking there is for very short stays only, which suits a driver meeting an aircraft.
The airline terminal next door
Long since outgrown by its traffic, the main terminal has six departure gates, one bar and snack counter, a shop for Corsican produce, a newsagent and a tobacco and souvenir shop. Wireless internet is free, and there is a cash machine, a small business centre and an interactive tourist information point, but no currency exchange. For international private flights some formalities take place there, and your handler walks you through the building.
Summer in the main terminal
On busy summer days the departure lounges are crowded, security queues can be long and the building struggles with the summer heat, which is what the current works are meant to fix. It is one of the best reasons to fly privately to Figari: a private party goes round most of it.
Work under way
The airport has started nearly 20 million euros of works, including a new baggage system and a larger departure lounge, and in 2026 it put out tenders for an extension of the main terminal. Expect some building work around the main terminal in the next two summers.
Food and drink
There is no restaurant at the airport, only the bar and snack counter in the main terminal, and the private terminal is a waiting room rather than a café. Catering for the aircraft is ordered through the handler a day or so ahead, and Corsican charcuterie, cheese and wine are easy to find. For a proper lunch before a late afternoon departure, Bonifacio and Porto-Vecchio are 25 to 30 minutes away.
Cars and taxis
Most parties are met by a driver at the door of the business terminal. Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and several other rental firms have their desks just outside the main terminal, and taxis wait outside arrivals from the first flight to the last.
The helicopter
The helicopter landing area sits on the airfield, so a party can step from the jet to a helicopter within minutes. Local operators fly on to Cavallo, Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio or the Domaine de Murtoli in about eight minutes, to Porto Cervo in about fifteen and to Olbia in about twenty, in daylight only. Cavallo has no cars, only electric buggies and bicycles, so the helicopter or the boat is the only way in.
Help getting aboard
The airport provides assistance for passengers with reduced mobility and asks for 48 hours' notice. On a private flight we arrange it through the handler, together with an aircraft whose door and airstair suit the passenger.

Bags, screening and the border at Figari

Corsica is part of France and of the Schengen area, so the rules are the French ones. What is particular to Figari is the timetable of the border police and the size of the building.

Arrival
Landing from Britain
Britain sits outside Schengen, which means a full border check for everyone aboard and, on a first trip, fingerprints and a photograph for the Entry/Exit System. At Figari the police handle it only in the daytime window described above, 06:00 to 17:00 in summer, and only with two days' warning, so the arrival time is chosen around them.
Arrival
From Italy, Switzerland or elsewhere in the Schengen area
A flight from Olbia or Geneva lands without a full Schengen border check, but it is still an international flight, and the airport publication asks for 48 hours' notice to the police and customs for those as well, within the same daytime hours. France is also allowed to make spot checks at its internal borders until 1 November 2026, so bring passports.
Arrival
From Nice, Paris or elsewhere in France
A domestic flight has no routine border check and can land at any time the tower is open. On a normal day the party is in the car a few minutes after the engines stop.
Departure
Bags and screening
The handler collects the bags from the car, and passengers and bags are screened before boarding, as for any private flight in France. On a light jet the crew will want the bag count beforehand, because beach and sports luggage for a fortnight adds up quickly, and bulky items such as golf bags or a child's pushchair are best mentioned at booking.
Departure
The exit check for Britain
A flight to the UK needs an exit check, again within the border police hours and with notice, so the departure time for a flight home is worth fixing early.
Timing
When to arrive
Twenty minutes before a flight inside Schengen is comfortable. For the UK allow forty minutes in July and August, and leave Porto-Vecchio earlier than the map suggests, because the road south is slow on summer afternoons.
Late arrivals
After the border closes
A flight from Britain that cannot reach Figari before 17:00 lands at Ajaccio, clears the border there at any hour, and continues by a short hop or by helicopter. We plan that route in advance rather than discover it on the day.

None of this makes Figari difficult for a well planned trip. It makes it a place where the timing is set by the airport rather than by the passenger.

What Figari adds to the bill

The flying is most of the cost, but four things on a Figari trip are worth knowing in advance.

420 euros a head
the French solidarity tax on each passenger leaving Figari on a business jet, charged on an empty leg as soon as someone is aboard
The empty middle
the two positioning flights of a drop and a collection, which a charter pays for and an empty leg does not
Helicopter or car
the transfer to Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio or Cavallo, booked with the flight and paid on top
Air Passenger Duty
Band A on a departure from Britain, with more private jets paying the higher rate from April 2027

The French tax applies to every passenger leaving a French airport on a business flight with nineteen seats or fewer. A jet flying to the UK pays 420 euros per passenger and a turboprop 210 euros, which means 2,100 euros for a family of five on the way home from Figari. Infants under two are exempt, arrivals into France are never taxed, and anyone connecting within 24 hours is charged just once.

For British duty France is in Band A. Passengers on a private jet of 5.7 to 20 tonnes pay 32 GBP each in the current tax year, and those on anything heavier pay 142 GBP. The distinction disappears in April 2027, when the higher rate of 146.63 GBP applies to every private jet above 5.7 tonnes. The Channel Islands levy no British duty on their departures.

The other airfields around the south of Corsica

There is no second airport close to Porto-Vecchio. The alternatives are across the island or across the water, and each has a different use.

Ajaccio, AJA. The island's largest airport, on the west coast, with border police round the clock. The usual place for an aircraft to wait when Figari will not keep it, and the fallback for a flight from Britain that misses the border hours at Figari. About 2h 15m from Porto-Vecchio by road, or about 40 minutes by helicopter to Figari.
Bastia, BIA. On the east coast in the north, a little more flexible with parking than Figari, and about two hours from Porto-Vecchio by the coast road. A reasonable choice for a party staying on the east coast north of Solenzara.
Calvi, CLY. In the north west, for the Balagne, and far from the south by road. It matters to a southern trip only as another place for an aircraft to wait.
Solenzara, LFKS. The air force base on the east coast between Porto-Vecchio and Bastia. It is closed to civil traffic, which surprises people who see its long runway on the map.
Olbia, OLB. Across the strait in Sardinia, with a private terminal of its own. About 20 minutes by helicopter from Figari, or an hour by ferry from Bonifacio to Santa Teresa and then an hour and a quarter by road to Olbia. The natural other half of a trip that crosses the strait on a yacht.
The practical answer. For a party staying between Porto-Vecchio and Bonifacio the jet lands at Figari. The others are where the aircraft goes afterwards, and it is those flights that fill the board.

Chauffeur transfer from Figari airport to Porto-Vecchio

From the airport to Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio and the beaches

Figari sits between the two towns, a little closer to Bonifacio. The road times are for a car booked in advance on an ordinary day in season, and the helicopter times are from local operators flying from the airfield.

Destination By road By helicopter Notes
Figari village About 5 minutes Road only The village below the airport, with a few restaurants
Bonifacio About 25 minutes About 8 minutes The old town on the cliffs, the marina and the boats to the Lavezzi islands
Sperone and Piantarella About 30 minutes Road only The golf course, and the jetty for the boats to Cavallo
Cavallo Road and boat, about 45 minutes About 8 minutes The private island in the strait, with no cars and its own helipad
Porto-Vecchio About 30 minutes About 8 minutes The old town above the gulf, the marina and the hotels of the bay
Santa Giulia About 25 minutes Road only The lagoon beach south of Porto-Vecchio and its hotels
Palombaggia About 35 minutes Road only The pine fringed beach and the villas behind it, slow in August
Domaine de Murtoli About 30 minutes About 8 minutes The estate in the valley west of Figari, with its own landing site
Pinarellu and the north of the gulf About 45 minutes Road only Quieter beaches and villas beyond Porto-Vecchio
Sartène About 50 minutes Road only The granite town and the wine country of the south west
Zonza and the Alta Rocca About an hour Road only The mountain villages and the Bavella needles

In July and August the road north into Porto-Vecchio and the lanes out to Palombaggia are the slow parts of any journey, and an arrival between four in the afternoon and seven in the evening can take half as long again. That is when the eight minute helicopter pays for itself, especially for a party staying on Cavallo, at Murtoli or on a yacht in the gulf.

Sardinia is close enough for a day. The ferry from Bonifacio to Santa Teresa takes about an hour, and a helicopter reaches Porto Cervo in about fifteen minutes and Olbia in about twenty, so a trip that starts at Figari can easily end at Olbia.

Popular routes between the UK and Figari, and which way they run empty

Each row below stands for a whole aircraft, not a seat, priced at what its operator will take to fill a cabin that is flying anyway. The times are from wheels up to wheels down, and the types range from a Phenom 300 to a Challenger 604, so a longer route can still be the cheaper one. When your dates cannot move, the charter list above shows what each cabin costs booked outright.

Passports, allowances and the border, both ways

Corsica is France, and the French border rules apply in full. At Figari they are applied in the hours set out above.

  • The passport. On arrival it must be less than ten years old, counted from its date of issue, and on the day you leave the Schengen area it must still have at least three months to run.
  • Ninety days. The limit is 90 days in any 180 day period across the whole Schengen area, so a week in Sardinia or on the Riviera earlier in the summer already counts.
  • The Entry/Exit System. Since the system became fully operational in April 2026, British visitors have been registered with fingerprints and a photograph on their first crossing instead of a stamp, and the record is kept for three years.
  • ETIAS. Not in force. The Commission removed its planned start date from its website in July 2026 and has not published a new one. When it starts it will cost 20 euros for three years.
  • Into France. 200 cigarettes, 1 litre of spirits, 4 litres of still wine, 16 litres of beer and other goods up to 430 euros for a passenger arriving by air. Anyone carrying 10,000 euros or more in cash declares it on arrival, and ham, cheese or milk packed at home is confiscated.
  • Back to Britain. Each adult may bring 18 litres of still wine, 42 litres of beer, 4 litres of spirits and 200 cigarettes, plus goods worth 270 GBP on a private flight. Sparkling wine joins the wine allowance and cider the beer allowance on 1 October 2026. Corsican charcuterie and cheese cannot be brought into Britain.
  • A day in Sardinia. Italy is in Schengen too, so the ferry from Bonifacio or a helicopter to Porto Cervo involves no full border check, although identity checks at the ports happen from time to time. Take passports.

Empty leg calendar for Figari, month by month

The south of Corsica has one of the most seasonal airports in France, and the gap between August and February is enormous.

Empty legs
how many released sectors to or from Figari we typically see

January
QuietThin
Winter in the south is for residents. Most hotels on the coast are shut and the scheduled timetable is thin. Any private trip is a charter.
February
QuietThin
Much the same, with the mountains of the Alta Rocca sometimes under snow. The airport works shorter hours in winter.
March
QuietThin
The first hotels reopen at the end of the month. In 2027 Good Friday falls on 26 March, and the Catenacciu procession in Sartène draws visitors from across the island.
April
SteadyThin
The season starts slowly, with the spring holidays and walkers. A few sectors appear around the holiday weekends.
May
SteadyFair
The long weekends of May bring the first real private traffic, the sea warms up and the maquis is in flower. Prices are well below the summer.
June
BusyGood
The villas fill, the yachts arrive and the slot season starts to bite. Sectors appear most days of the week.
July
Very busyStrong
The peak builds through the month. Quick turns only on the private apron, Saturday changeovers and aircraft leaving empty after every drop.
August
Very busyStrong
The busiest month, with more than 190,000 passengers through the airport in August 2026. The 15th is a holiday across France and the great feast day in Bonifacio, and the roads are at their slowest.
September
BusyStrong
Warm water, emptier beaches and the school holidays over. The first half of the month is still busy, and the aircraft that spent the summer on the island start to leave.
October
SteadyGood
The season ends with the last warm weeks. The slot season closes at the end of the month and the remaining aircraft go home, often empty.
November
QuietThin
Most hotels close for the winter and the airport returns to its scheduled flights.
December
QuietThin
A short rise at Christmas for families with houses in the south. Very little is released.

May and the last fortnight of September give the best value, with kind weather, a quieter airport than in August and much lower prices, and early June is also worth considering before the villas fill. Early October is worth watching too, when the summer fleet flies off the island and releases sectors northbound.

Three situations, three answers

A fortnight in a villa near Porto-Vecchio
The jet drops the family at Figari on a Saturday morning, inside the border hours, and flies home empty the same day. Two weeks later it comes out empty to collect them. Either of those empty sectors may be on the board, and on a route of more than two hours the saving can be large. Book the car for the drive to the villa, and allow for August traffic at the edge of town.
Joining a yacht between Corsica and Sardinia
Land at Figari, take the helicopter to the boat or a car to Bonifacio or Porto-Vecchio, and cruise across the strait to the Maddalena islands. Leave from Olbia at the end, and the aircraft that dropped you can reposition there empty rather than back to Britain. Tell us both ends of the cruise and we will look for sectors at each.
A long weekend on Cavallo
Fly in on Friday before five in the afternoon, take the helicopter to the island in eight minutes, and fly home on Monday. The aircraft goes to Ajaccio or home in between. Away from the peak, and with an early request, the airport occasionally lets an aircraft wait for the weekend.

Flying to Figari with a dog or a cat

An animal travelling from Britain to Corsica follows the French rules for entry to the EU: a microchip that can be read, a rabies vaccination given at least 21 days before travel, and an animal health certificate issued by an official vet no more than ten days before arrival. Since 22 April 2026 a British resident travelling with an EU pet passport in their own name has had to use the certificate instead. The heat of July and August is hard on dogs in the south of the island, and many beaches do not allow them in summer.

Dog in the cabin of a private jet to Figari

Plan the return first. The flight home is the harder half, because few operators hold the approval needed to bring pets into Great Britain, and a dog must see a vet for its tapeworm tablet in the five days before landing and no later than the day before. Cats need the same papers but not the tapeworm treatment. Tell us about the animal at the start, as it decides which aircraft can fly you home.

Your questions about flying privately to Figari

What is the flying time to Figari?
Two hours ten to two hours twenty minutes from the London area, around two and a half hours from Manchester, and close to three hours from Glasgow, Edinburgh or Belfast. Set your watch an hour forward on landing: leave London at 09:00 and you touch down at roughly 12:20 Corsican time.
Can the jet stay at Figari while we are there?
In July and August almost never. The private apron takes quick turns and overnight parking is rarely approved, so the aircraft leaves after the drop and comes back for the return. In May, June and late September a stay of a few nights is sometimes possible if it is requested early.
Does Figari have a terminal for private flights?
Yes. A business aviation terminal opened in June 2013 beside the private apron, and the handler works from it. For a flight from outside Schengen the passport check can take place in the airline terminal, and the handler goes with you.
Can we land late in the evening?
On a flight from elsewhere in France, until the tower closes at 23:00 in summer, although late arrivals are the ones most affected when the tower has to close early. Any flight from abroad needs the border police, who work only until 17:00 in summer, so a later flight from the UK, Italy or Switzerland clears at Ajaccio first.
Are slots needed at Figari?
In the summer season, yes. Figari is fully coordinated from late March to late October, and the handler requests the slots together with the airport's permission.
How far is Porto-Vecchio?
About 25 kilometres and 30 minutes by car on a normal day, longer in August, or about eight minutes by helicopter. Bonifacio is about 25 minutes by road.
What does an empty leg to or from Figari cost?
On our list the cheapest sector is a Phenom 300 out of Biggin Hill at around 5,200 GBP for the whole cabin, with a Citation XLS+ from London at around 7,400 GBP. The same cabins on our listed routes cost about 12,300 to 34,900 GBP as full charters.
Is there a helicopter to Cavallo?
Yes, from the airfield, in about eight minutes and in daylight only. The same operators fly to Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio, Murtoli and across the strait to Porto Cervo and Olbia.
What if the weather is bad?
Strong westerly winds make the approach to Figari rough, and on the worst days a flight may divert to Ajaccio. We check the forecast with the crew the day before and move the departure if it helps.
When is the best time to go?
August is the busiest and dearest month. May and the second half of September give warm weather at far lower prices, and June is lovely but already filling up.
What other costs should we expect?
The French solidarity tax of 420 euros for each passenger on a jet leaving Figari, British duty on departures from the UK and the transfer to your address. Landing, parking and handling charges at Figari are normally included in our quote.
Can we bring the family dog?
Yes, with the papers described in the section on pets, and remembering that the flight back to Britain is the one that limits the choice of aircraft.
And if nothing is released for my dates?
Tell us when you want to travel, how many of you there are and how many days of slack you have. We watch Figari, Ajaccio and Olbia together, because in summer the aircraft working the south of Corsica and the north of Sardinia move between them every day.

Call +44 7857 574938 , message the same number on WhatsApp , or write to flight@empty-leg.co.uk . Tell us the villa, the hotel or the yacht, the week you have in mind, the number of passengers and bags, and whether you would like the helicopter or a car at Figari. You get back the matching sectors and their charter prices, together with a plan covering the airport permission, the border hours and the onward transfer.
