Empty leg flights to and from Mykonos

Mykonos is the summer capital of the Aegean: a small, dry, windswept island in the Cyclades whose beaches, beach clubs, villas and yacht anchorages draw one of the wealthiest crowds in Europe from May to October. It has a single airport, four kilometres from Mykonos Town, with one narrow runway and almost nowhere to park a private jet in summer.

That last point shapes the whole empty leg market. From 1 June to 15 September a private aircraft may stay on the ground at Mykonos for no more than 40 minutes during the day, so nearly every private arrival is a drop and go: the jet lands, unloads its passengers and leaves empty, then returns empty for the pickup. Few airports in Europe turn such a large share of their private flights into positioning sectors.

Empty legs to and from Mykonos right now

The board shows every sector released into or out of Mykonos. When Mykonos itself has nothing, it lists the rest of the Cyclades and Athens instead: Santorini, Paros, Syros and Naxos, and the Athens airport through which many visitors reach the islands. Underneath, a table of regular routes shows what the same aircraft would cost as a full charter.

Ask us what is available at Mykonos right now.

This board refreshes through the day as operators release sectors, and it shows only part of the market: a large share of repositioning flights never reach a public list at all. Check back shortly, or tell us your route and dates and we will look at what operators are holding at this moment.

Sectors on this list do not touch Mykonos itself. They are shown because the fields are close enough that the drive rarely costs you more than waiting for the right sector does. Tell us which one interests you and we will confirm it is still open.

Both columns assume an aircraft already at the departure airport, so no positioning flight is billed. Where an operator has to fly one in to collect you, a charter can run considerably higher than the figure shown. Prices also run in both directions: an empty leg exists only when an operator is moving that aircraft anyway, so the sector you want may run the other way this month. Tell us the route and we will watch both directions for you.

Set up an alert for Mykonos

Most empty legs are gone within hours of being released, and a good number are never published at all. Tell us the route and the window you can travel in, and we will message you the moment a matching sector comes up between the UK and Mykonos.

Please fill in both the departure and the arrival city.

Nothing is stored on this site. The button opens a chat with the message already written, and you send it yourself. We reply during office hours, 07:00 to 23:00, and check messages outside them too.

Where Mykonos sectors come from

Three features of the island's season fill the Mykonos board every summer.

The 40 minute rule
Between 1 June and 15 September the airport lets a private aircraft stay no more than 40 minutes between 04:00 and 19:30 UTC, which is 07:00 to 22:30 on the island. There is no daytime parking to be had, so the aircraft that brings a party out for a week leaves empty straight after the drop, either home to Britain or to a Greek airport where it is allowed to stay, and flies back empty for the pickup. Each villa week therefore puts at least two positioning sectors on the market.
Island hops and waiting airports
Many visitors combine Mykonos with Santorini, Paros or Athens, and a good number of aircraft spend the days between drop and pickup at airports such as Thessaloniki, Chania or Kos, where long stays are still possible. Those short positioning flights are released as well, although a flight carrying passengers between two Greek airports must be flown by an EU operator.
A season from May to October
The Mykonos season now runs from May to October rather than June to September, opening around Greek Orthodox Easter and closing with the beach clubs in the autumn. In May each party flown out leaves an aircraft heading home empty, and in late September and October the pattern reverses, with aircraft flying south empty to bring the last guests home.

Flying time from London is roughly three hours forty. That sits within the range of a midsize or super midsize jet with a full cabin, while the smaller light jets may have to stop for fuel on the way, so most British parties fly something larger. The Legacy 600, the Phenom 300 and the Citation XLS are all common choices on the route. In the routes table the London row is priced on a Challenger 350 for up to nine and the other routes on an eight seat Legacy 500.

Seasonal demand for repositioning flights

Mykonos Airport in detail

Mykonos is a small island airport run by a large company, and its rules are written for the summer crowds. These are the points that decide how a private flight works.

Codes and name JMK (IATA), LGMK (ICAO). Officially Mykonos Airport Manto Mavrogenous, after the island's heroine of the Greek War of Independence. It opened in 1971, and since April 2017 it has been run by Fraport Greece under a forty year concession, which has brought an enlarged, refurbished terminal.
Location About four kilometres south east of Mykonos Town and 123 metres above sea level, on the ridge in the middle of the island. Chora, Ornos and the south coast beaches are ten to twenty minutes away by car.
Runway One runway, 16/34, about 1,900 metres long and only 30 metres wide, with no instrument landing system. Crews are warned of turbulence and wind shear, and the strong northerly meltemi of July and August can make the approach lively.
Hours Published as 00:00 to 23:59 every day. From 19 November 2026 to 18 March 2027, however, the runway is being rebuilt and closes for the whole of every Thursday, except 24 and 31 December and 7 January, so a winter flight needs checking first.
Slots and permission Every private flight needs prior permission for a parking position, requested through a licensed ground handler, and in summer an airport slot as well, because Mykonos is fully coordinated. Applications open 14 calendar days before arrival, the slot must be met within 15 minutes either side, and a permission that is no longer needed has to be handed back at least two hours before arrival.
Ground time From 1 June to 15 September 2026, between 04:00 and 19:30 UTC, private aircraft may stay on the ground for 40 minutes at most. Outside those hours an aircraft may stay overnight with permission, so a late evening arrival and an early morning departure can sometimes be combined.
Handling and the lounge Handling is compulsory. Since 2022 private flights have used the airport's private aviation lounge, where security, passport and customs checks take place, at a charge of 2,000 euros plus VAT where applicable for each flight with passengers on board. Each private flight must also receive confirmation that ground services are available for it.
Stands and fuel Only nose in stands for midsize and large jets, so operators are advised to carry their own tow bar. Refuelling private aircraft can be delayed on busy days, because airliners come first.
Traffic 1.61 million passengers in 2024, about 2 per cent fewer in 2025, and 1.31 million in the first eight months of 2026, 6.6 per cent more than a year earlier. Greece as a whole saw about 19,500 private flights in 2025, according to preliminary civil aviation figures.

Two rows matter more than the rest: the ground time and the lounge. Together they mean that a summer trip to Mykonos is always planned as two drops, and that the airport costs are higher than at most European holiday destinations.

Where private passengers are handled at Mykonos

Private passengers at Mykonos pass through the Delos lounge, the airport's own private aviation facility, set apart from the airline halls, with direct access to the apron. It is compulsory for private flights and replaces the airline check in hall entirely.

The Delos lounge
Opened in 2022 and designed by the Athens practice Chadios Architects for Fraport Greece, it was meant to feel more like an all day bar than an airport, with built in upholstered sofas, rattan armchairs and wooden slats that filter the Cycladic light. It has its own entrance, direct apron access and the security, passport and customs checks for private passengers, and boarding is private and discreet, with fast track access to the aircraft.
Handlers
Every private flight needs a handler licensed by the Greek civil aviation authority. Skyserv, Goldair Handling and Swissport work the island, the business aviation networks Signature and Universal Aviation list Mykonos among their bases, and ExecuJet serves it through a local partner. Whichever one your operator uses, its passengers pass through the same Delos lounge.
Services by confirmation
Because ground equipment for private aircraft is limited, Mykonos is one of three Fraport Greece airports where every private flight must receive a confirmation that ground services are available. Without it, the parking permission is withdrawn.
Catering
Food for the flight comes from the licensed airport caterer, which supplies airlines and private flights alike, or from an outside specialist, while food that passengers bring themselves is screened like luggage before it goes on board. Island specialities such as kopanisti, the peppery local cheese, and louza, the cured pork of Mykonos, can be ordered ahead.

For the passenger this is simple: one lounge for everyone flying privately, a car at the door and a short walk or drive to the aircraft. What it is not is cheap, which is one more reason to look at empty legs.

The terminal from a passenger's side

This is how a departure and an arrival run through the Delos lounge, from the car to the aircraft steps and back.

ARRIVING BY CAR
Call ahead, stop at the lounge
Drivers drop you at the entrance to the private lounge rather than at the airline hall. Handlers ask passengers to phone operations with their expected time of arrival, so that staff and porters are waiting at the kerb.
WHEN TO ARRIVE
Earlier than you might think
The checks themselves are quick, but baggage screening can take five to ten minutes longer than the passengers' own checks, and the slot must be met within 15 minutes. Thirty to forty five minutes before departure is sensible in summer, when the roads near the airport are slow in the late afternoon.
CHECK IN
Passports against the list
The operator sends the passenger list to the handler in advance, so there is nothing to check in: staff match passports to the list in the lounge.
BAGGAGE
Screened separately
Handler staff wait at the kerb with porters, who carry the bags into the lounge and through its scanner. That machine takes bags only up to a certain size, so surfboards, kitesurfing kit and other oversized items go through the main terminal, which adds time. Handlers also offer to collect luggage before the day and process it early.
SECURITY AND PASSPORTS
All in the lounge
Security, passport and customs checks all happen in the lounge, because Greek rules do not allow them on board. Flights between Mykonos and Britain cross the Schengen border, so passports are checked both ways, and under the Entry/Exit System first time visitors are photographed and, from the age of twelve, fingerprinted, although practice in Greece has varied since the system began.
TO THE AIRCRAFT
A short walk or a ride
Depending on where the aircraft is parked, staff walk you across or drive you out in one of the handlers' vans, straight from the lounge to the steps without passing through the public terminal. With only 40 minutes on the ground, the crew needs passengers at the steps on time, so this is not the airport for a leisurely coffee before boarding.
ON ARRIVAL
Met on the tarmac
Handler staff meet the aircraft and bring you to the lounge on foot or by vehicle, then take the bags through security and customs while you watch; luggage is never left unattended. You are then escorted to your car at the landside entrance. When everything has been arranged ahead, allow 15 to 20 minutes from touchdown to leaving the airport.
THE LOUNGE
A Mykonian salon
Expect a drink and light refreshments rather than a restaurant menu: this is a waiting lounge, with restrooms and handler staff who keep track of the aircraft for you. Delos is built for a short wait rather than a long afternoon, which suits an airport where aircraft stay forty minutes.
FOOD AND DRINK
Order it for the flight
Anything more than a snack is ordered as catering, with at least 24 hours' notice. Specialist caterers suggest 48 hours in the peak weeks and final dietary requests the day before, and Greek dishes such as moussaka and spanakopita are easy to arrange.
CARS AND TAXIS
Book before you land
Unofficial guides put the island's licensed taxis at only about 30 to 35, and in July and August the queue at the airport can take from half an hour to an hour. Book a car and driver in advance; limousines, large SUVs, jeeps and minivans are all available, but many villas are reached by narrow, bumpy roads that suit a jeep better than a limousine.
HELICOPTERS
From Athens or a yacht
A chartered helicopter brings passengers from Athens in about 35 to 45 minutes, for roughly 3,500 to 6,000 euros one way depending on the machine, and shuttles guests between the airport and yachts at anchor; in summer book it a few days ahead. Travellers who reach Athens by airline can also buy a seat on Hoper's scheduled helicopter, a flight of 40 to 45 minutes at roughly 210 to 390 euros a person, depending on the date and fare.
PETS
Not an entry point
Mykonos is not on Greece's list of entry points for pets arriving from outside the EU, so a dog or cat flying from Britain must first enter the EU at an airport that is, such as Athens. Plan the route with us before booking.
ONE WAY BY AIRLINE
The public terminal in August
If your empty leg covers only one direction, British Airways flies between Mykonos and Heathrow in summer, easyJet to Gatwick and Wizz Air to Luton. Fraport's rebuild, finished in 2021, made the terminal about half as large again and took check in from 12 desks to 16, but the building is still crowded in August, with little seating. Paid meet and assist services, from about 210 euros on arrival and 260 on departure with at least 72 hours' notice, escort you through security and passport control.
AIRLINE LOUNGE
Goldair on the first floor
The terminal's pay lounge, Your Mykonian Luxury Lounge by Goldair Handling, is on the first floor near gate 4 and opens daily from 08:00 to 22:00 between 1 May and 15 October. It admits paying guests as well as Priority Pass and LoungeKey members, for up to two hours, and serves Greek cold dishes, desserts and wines. It lies after security but before exit passport control, so passengers for Britain can generally use it, as long as they leave time for the passport and EES checks afterwards.

The two things to organise in advance are the car and the timing. Everything inside the lounge takes minutes, but the taxi queue outside and the 40 minute clock on the apron do not forgive a late start.

Four rules that shape a Mykonos trip

Forty minutes on the ground
Forty minutes is enough to unload, turn the cabin round and board the next party, but little more, and refuelling on a busy day can eat into it. Every summer trip is therefore planned as a drop and a pickup, and each of the two empty positioning flights it creates can be bought by someone else.
Fourteen days, fifteen minutes
Applications for parking permission and slots open 14 days before arrival, and the slot must then be met to within 15 minutes. Choose the time with care, and remember that fuel and catering can both take longer in August.
Where the aircraft waits
Athens lets business aircraft stay only 90 minutes unless a longer stay is approved the day before, so aircraft that remain in Greece between the drop and the pickup usually wait at Thessaloniki, Chania or Kos. For a week's stay it is often cheaper to fly the aircraft home, which is why so many Mykonos sectors run to and from Britain.
Greek hops need an EU operator
Since Brexit, an aircraft run by a British operator may fly between Britain and Greece but cannot carry passengers between two Greek airports, such as Athens and Mykonos or Mykonos and Santorini. If your plans include an island hop, we will match that leg with an EU operator.

None of this puts people off. It simply means that at Mykonos the empty sectors are built into the timetable, and a traveller who can fit one of them saves more than almost anywhere else in Europe.

Private jet on the apron before departure

What the ground costs on Mykonos

Mykonos is one of the more expensive airports in Europe for a private flight, and the extra costs fall into three places.

On the invoice
Fraport Greece charges, the handling fee and the private aviation lounge at 2,000 euros plus any VAT for each flight with passengers
Two empty flights
The cost of flying the aircraft away after the drop and back for the pickup, unless you travel on a sector that is already positioning
Climate resilience fee
15 euros a night in a five star hotel or a tourist villa from April to October, and 4 euros in winter

The lounge charge is the one visitors notice. Where Greek VAT at 24 per cent is added, it comes to about 2,480 euros for the flight in and the same again for the flight out, so a round trip can add almost 5,000 euros before any other airport charge. The positioning cost is larger still in summer, because the aircraft cannot wait on the island; travelling on a sector that is already being flown empty is the most direct way to avoid paying for it.

Britain adds Air Passenger Duty to the departure from a British airport and to nothing else. A Challenger 350 and a Legacy 500 both weigh under 20 tonnes and pay the standard rate of 32 GBP a head until April 2027, while a Legacy 600 or anything heavier pays the higher rate of 142 GBP; from April 2027 the higher rate is due to cover every private jet above 5.7 tonnes. Greece's climate resilience fee is collected by the hotel or villa with the bill, not at the airport.

Santorini, Athens, Paros and the other airports nearby

For a jet, Mykonos Airport is the only way onto the island, but the airports around it matter for island hopping and for where the aircraft waits between flights.

Santorini, JTR. About twenty minutes' flying to the south, with a 2,197 metre runway shared with the air force and the same kind of daytime limit in summer: 40 minutes on the ground between 05:00 and 18:00 UTC until 15 September. Easy to combine with Mykonos in one trip, as long as the hop between them is flown by an EU operator.
Athens, ATH. The main gateway to Greece, about 35 minutes from Mykonos by jet, and the usual first stop for travellers who continue to the island by helicopter or fast ferry. Business aircraft may stay 90 minutes, longer only with approval requested the day before, and the airport has been fully slot coordinated since the 2025 summer season.
Paros, PAS. The neighbouring island's airport, opened in 2016 with a 1,400 metre runway that handles regional airliners and business jets. Paros and Antiparos have become popular for villas, and Mykonos is under an hour away by fast ferry.
Syros and Naxos. Syros, the administrative capital of the Cyclades, has a runway of 1,080 metres and Naxos a shorter one still, so both suit turboprops and helicopters rather than jets.
Thessaloniki, Chania and Kos. Airports where business aircraft can still stay for days in summer. Under the Fraport Greece rules for 2026, Thessaloniki allows up to five days between 16 June and 15 September and seven at other times; Chania needs a military landing permit, and Kos has a lounge charge like the one at Mykonos. These are where many aircraft wait between a Mykonos drop and the pickup.

From the airport to Mykonos Town, Psarou and the south coast

Mykonos is small, and nothing on the island is much more than twenty minutes from the runway. The times below are for a car outside the evening rush; in August the roads to the south coast beaches slow down in the late afternoon.

Destination By road Notes
Mykonos Town, Chora About 10 minutes About 4 kilometres; Little Venice, the windmills and the old port
Ornos Under 10 minutes About 3 kilometres; the sheltered bay closest to the airport
Tourlos new port About 10 minutes Ferries, cruise ships and yacht tenders
Psarou and Platis Gialos 12 to 15 minutes About 6 kilometres; villas, hotels and beach clubs
Paradise and Paraga About 15 minutes About 7 kilometres; the livelier south coast beaches
Ano Mera About 15 minutes About 7 kilometres; the inland village and its monastery
Agios Ioannis About 15 minutes The west coast, with sunsets over Delos
Elia and Kalo Livadi About 20 minutes About 10 kilometres; the quieter eastern end of the south coast

A metered taxi from the airport to Chora costs roughly 17 to 25 euros, depending on the hour and the luggage, but there are too few of them in summer to rely on, so a pre booked car is the norm for private passengers. Boats to the island of Delos, with its ancient sanctuary, leave from the old port below Chora, and helicopters and tenders connect the island with yachts anchored off the south coast.

Car transfer from the private jet terminal

Popular routes between the UK and Mykonos, and which way they run empty

A row shows the price at which one released sector usually sells, and it pays for the whole aircraft, not a seat in it. Booking that aircraft outright for your own dates tends to cost two and a half times the empty leg figure; see the price list below the board for the exact charter amount on each route. Flight times are airborne times only; add roughly half an hour at each end for the ground.

Route In the air Empty leg from Season Which way it usually runs empty
London to Mykonos 3h 40m 13,100 GBP May to October Both ways, Fridays and Mondays above all
Mykonos to Oxford 3h 40m 11,300 GBP Summer Home to Oxford straight after a drop
Southampton to Mykonos 3h 40m 11,300 GBP Summer Out empty to collect a party
Mykonos to Jersey 3h 40m 11,300 GBP Summer Home to Jersey after a villa drop
Guernsey to Mykonos 3h 40m 11,300 GBP July and August Occasional, out empty to collect
Mykonos to Bristol 3h 50m 11,900 GBP Summer Home to Bristol once the party is delivered
Cardiff to Mykonos 3h 50m 11,900 GBP Summer Out empty at the end of August to fetch a family
Mykonos to Birmingham 3h 50m 11,900 GBP June to September Home to Birmingham after a drop
Manchester to Mykonos 3h 55m 12,100 GBP May to October Both ways, clustered around Fridays and Mondays
Mykonos to Liverpool 3h 55m 12,100 GBP Summer Home to Liverpool after a drop
Leeds to Mykonos 3h 55m 12,100 GBP Summer Out empty to collect a party
Mykonos to Newcastle 4h 00m 12,400 GBP July and August Home to Newcastle after delivering a group
Edinburgh to Mykonos 4h 10m 12,900 GBP Summer Out empty in mid August to bring Scottish families home
Mykonos to Glasgow 4h 15m 13,100 GBP Summer Home to Glasgow empty at the start of July
Aberdeen to Mykonos 4h 10m 12,900 GBP July and August Occasional, out empty for a family party
Mykonos to Belfast 4h 15m 13,100 GBP Summer Home to Belfast after a drop
Isle of Man to Mykonos 4h 10m 12,900 GBP Summer A few a season, out empty to collect
Mykonos to Dublin 4h 15m 13,100 GBP Summer Home to Dublin after a drop, often on a Friday

Because almost no aircraft can wait on the island in summer, every trip produces sectors in both directions, and their timing follows the passengers closely: the aircraft leaves within 40 minutes of landing and comes back on the day of departure. Mondays and Fridays are the busiest days at the airport and Saturday one of the quietest, so sectors cluster around the start and the end of the week, and a traveller who can fly midweek has the widest choice.

Arriving in Mykonos from the UK

Greece belongs to the Schengen area and Britain does not, so a flight between them crosses the EU's external border, and Greek officers carry out the checks in the private lounge at Mykonos, never on board.

  • Passport. Greek officers want a passport issued no more than ten years before the date of entry, with at least three months of validity left after the date you plan to leave the Schengen countries. Time on the Greek islands counts towards the shared Schengen allowance of 90 days in any 180.
  • Entry/Exit System. British visitors are enrolled in the EU's electronic border register the first time they arrive, with a facial photograph and, from the age of twelve, fingerprints, and the record takes the place of passport stamps. In the spring of 2026 Greece suggested that Britons would be spared the biometric step, then confirmed that no nationality is exempt, and practice on the islands has varied, so check the FCDO advice for Greece shortly before you travel.
  • ETIAS. Not needed yet. In July 2026 the launch was put back to 2027, with no firm date. Travellers aged 18 to 70 will then pay 20 euros, and the authorisation will last three years or until the passport expires, whichever is sooner.
  • Customs on arrival. Arriving from outside the EU, each traveller has the standard duty free allowances for tobacco and alcohol and may bring other goods worth up to 430 euros; more than that, or cash of 10,000 euros or more, has to be declared. Greek customs will confiscate British ham, cheese or milk.
  • Between the islands. Flights and ferries between Greek islands are domestic, so there is no passport control on a hop from Mykonos to Santorini or Athens, although identity documents are still checked when boarding.
  • Flying home. Back in Great Britain the duty free limits per adult are 42 litres of beer, 18 of wine, 4 of spirits and 200 cigarettes, with 270 GBP of other goods; EU meat and dairy produce may not be brought in. A change on 1 October 2026 moves sparkling wine into the wine limit and cider into the beer limit. Travellers who hold neither a British nor an Irish passport should find out before the trip whether they need a UK electronic travel authorisation.
  • Taxes. Air Passenger Duty on the flight out of Britain, the private lounge charge at Mykonos on each flight with passengers, and the Greek climate resilience fee on every night in a hotel or villa.

Empty leg calendar for Mykonos, month by month

Mykonos has one of the most sharply seasonal calendars on our board: almost closed in winter, and among the busiest private destinations in Europe from June to September. The cards show what drives each month.

Demand
The Greek season, the school holidays and the summer ground time limit behind each month, and what they do to charter prices for Mykonos.
Empty legs
How often Mykonos sectors are released that month and how far they tend to undercut a charter.

January
QuietThin
The island is largely closed: most hotels, beach clubs and restaurants shut from November to April, and this winter the runway is also closed every Thursday for rebuilding. Sectors are rare.
February

Openings begin, and after the winter's Thursday closures the runway is open every day again. Some aircraft move into the Aegean for the season, and their positioning sectors start to appear.
May
BusyGood
Greek Orthodox Easter falls on 2 May in 2027 and marks the real start of the season; May now counts as part of the peak for slots. Each party flown out leaves a jet heading home empty.
June
BusyStrong
From 1 June the 40 minute rule applies and every trip becomes a drop and go. Scottish schools break up at the end of the month, adding family traffic to the weekend crowds.
July
Very busyStrong
Peak season, with the northerly meltemi at its strongest. Once English schools break up in the second half of the month, the jets that deliver families head home without passengers.
August
Very busyStrong
The height of the year, with 15 August, the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, a national holiday that fills every island. From mid month aircraft fly south empty to bring families home.
September
BusyStrong
The first days still bring southbound empties sent for English families, and the 40 minute rule lapses after the 15th. The island is calmer but the sea is still warm.
October
SteadyGood
The last weeks of the season. Beach clubs close, owners leave, and the aircraft that come to collect them arrive empty.
November
QuietThin
Closed season. From 19 November 2026 the runway shuts every Thursday for works, and few private aircraft visit.
December
QuietThin
Christmas and New Year bring a few owners and guests to houses on the island, but most of Mykonos stays shut until spring.

For the widest choice, look at June to September, when every trip generates two empty sectors, and fly midweek if you can. For the calmest island, choose late May, early June or September: the season is open, the crowds are thinner, and the meltemi is weaker than at the height of summer.

Three situations, three answers

A week at a villa in July
The aircraft cannot wait, so plan the trip as two drops: out on the day you arrive and back on the day you leave. Ask us for the two positioning sectors with the charter price, because a flexible traveller can often use another party's sector, and choose a midweek arrival if possible, away from the Friday and Monday peaks.
Mykonos and Santorini together
Fly into one island and out of the other, with a short hop, a helicopter or a fast ferry in between. The hop between the islands has to be flown by an EU operator, and both airports keep a 40 minute limit by day in summer, so plan the trip as a series of one way flights.
Straight to a yacht
Tell us where the yacht will be and on which day. We can time the landing to the tender from the new port or book a helicopter to the deck, and the handler's porters bring the luggage through the lounge to your car or helicopter, so nothing needs to be sent ahead.

Flying to Mykonos with a dog or a cat

The documents for a pet travelling from Britain to Greece are the same as for any EU country: a microchip, a rabies vaccination, with 21 days to wait after the first dose, and an animal health certificate issued by an official vet no more than ten days before the flight. Since 22 April 2026 EU pet passports issued to owners living in Britain are no longer accepted either, so the certificate is needed even for an animal that used to travel on one. The route is where Mykonos differs. Pets arriving from outside the EU may enter Greece only through designated points, and Mykonos is not one of them; Athens is. A pet flying from Britain therefore needs to land first at an entry point such as Athens for its check, and then continue to the island. Summer heat on Mykonos is the other consideration, as is the shortage of shade on many beaches.

dog in the cabin of a private jet

The journey home needs its own planning. Dogs, cats and ferrets may enter Great Britain only on approved routes with approved operators, and a dog must be treated for tapeworm by a vet between 24 hours and five days before it arrives. Mykonos has vets, but August appointments go quickly, so fix one at the time of booking, and name the animal in your first enquiry: we then approach only operators that accept pets.

Questions about flying private to Mykonos

Can the aircraft wait for me on Mykonos?
Not in the summer daytime. Between 07:00 and 22:30 island time from 1 June to 15 September the limit is 40 minutes on the ground; overnight stays and stays outside those dates are possible with permission.
How much does the private lounge cost?
2,000 euros for each flight with passengers, or about 2,480 euros where Greek VAT is added, so the charge is paid twice on a round trip. It covers the private lounge where security, passport and customs checks take place.
How long is the flight from London?
About three hours and forty minutes nonstop in a midsize or larger jet, a little longer from the north of England and Scotland. Greece is two hours ahead of Britain.
Can one aircraft fly me from Mykonos to Santorini?
Only if it is run by an EU operator. A British operator can fly you between Britain and Greece, but a hop between two Greek airports counts as domestic flying, which has been closed to it since Brexit.
Where does the aircraft go after dropping me?
Home to Britain, or to an airport where it can park, such as Thessaloniki, Chania or Kos. Athens allows only 90 minutes without a separate request the day before.
Can my dog fly straight to Mykonos from London?
Not straight there. Mykonos is not a designated entry point for pets from outside the EU, so the aircraft must first land at one, such as Athens, for the check.
Do I need to book a car?
Yes. Guides count only about 30 to 35 licensed taxis on the island, and in high summer the airport queue can run to an hour, so private passengers almost always arrange a car and driver in advance.
And if nothing is released for my dates?
Put the route on alert with us, together with your dates and how much they can move, and we will write the day a matching sector is released. For Mykonos most sectors surface a few days to two weeks before they fly, since permissions open only 14 days ahead.

Call +44 7857 574938 , message the same number on WhatsApp , or write to flight@empty-leg.co.uk . Say where on the island you will stay, which dates suit you, how many are flying and whether a yacht or Santorini comes into the plan; our reply lists the matching sectors alongside a charter price for the same trip.
