Milan is the busiest private aviation market in Italy, and about three quarters of it lands at Linate, a city airport seven kilometres from the Duomo with its own business aviation terminals. The European Business Aviation Association counted 25,675 business aviation movements at Linate in 2024, seventh in Europe, and SEA Prime, which runs the private terminals, handled 35,900 movements across Milan in 2025. What matters for an empty leg is that the traffic runs all year rather than in one season.
The second thing that matters is parking. Milan raised its parking charges for business aircraft sharply in July 2025 and trimmed them again in January 2026, but after two free hours the meter still runs by the tonne, so a jet that drops passengers in the morning rarely waits for them. It flies home or on to its next job, and that is the sector you can buy.

The board below shows the sectors our operator network has released into or out of Milan. Linate, Malpensa and Bergamo are all listed, and when Milan itself is quiet the nearby fields appear underneath, because a short hop or a drive connects them with the city.
| Date | From | To | Aircraft | Passengers | Price | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 28 Oct 2026 | Farnborough, GB (FAB/EGLF) | Milano Linate, IT (LIN/LIML) | Cessna CitationJet | 5 | 13,500 GBP | Request |
Prices are for the whole aircraft and are shown in pounds. Some are indicative figures worked out from the distance and the class of jet; the firm price is confirmed with the operator when you send a request.
Sectors on this list do not touch Milan itself. They are shown because the fields are close enough that the drive rarely costs you more than waiting for the right sector does. Tell us which one interests you and we will confirm it is still open.

Both columns assume an aircraft already at the departure airport, so no positioning flight is billed. Where an operator has to fly one in to collect you, a charter can run considerably higher than the figure shown. Prices also run in both directions: an empty leg exists only when an operator is moving that aircraft anyway, so the sector you want may run the other way this month. Tell us the route and we will watch both directions for you.
Most empty legs are gone within hours of being released, and a good number are never published at all. Tell us the route and the window you can travel in, and we will message you the moment a matching sector comes up between the UK and Milan.

Three patterns send aircraft to Milan and back without passengers, and unlike the summer islands they work in every month of the year.
The association's figures for 2024 put the Citation XLS first at Linate, with 1,709 movements, followed by the Falcon 2000, the Challenger 350, the Global and the Phenom 300. That mix matters when you read a price: Milan sees more heavy metal than a holiday airport does, so the same corridor can produce a light jet sector one week and a Global the next. The market is still growing, too: SEA Prime counted 18,200 movements through its two Milan terminals in the first half of 2026, with Linate Prime alone 15 per cent up on the year before, and the design week added another 14 per cent at Linate Prime.

What shapes a private flight into Milan, from the opening hours and the handling rules to the parking meter and the paperwork customs expects.
| Codes | LIN (IATA), LIML (ICAO) |
| Location | In Segrate and Peschiera Borromeo, on the eastern edge of Milan, seven kilometres from the Duomo and about 15 to 20 minutes by car outside the rush. Elevation 108 metres. Run by SEA, the Milan airports company |
| Runway | A single runway, 17/35, 2,442 by 60 metres, with instrument landings. Enough for any business jet and for the airliners that serve the city |
| Hours | Open 24 hours. Night movements are subject to the noise rules that apply to the whole airport, so a late arrival is planned with the handler rather than assumed |
| Slots and permission | Linate is a fully coordinated airport, with capacity capped at 18 movements an hour, a ceiling lifted for a few weeks in the spring of 2026 while Malpensa resurfaced a runway. A private flight is booked through a handler, which arranges the airport slot or the permission where one is needed and confirms the stand before the day |
| Parking | The first two hours are free. After that the charge runs by the tonne for every hour: 0.44 euro up to 24 hours, 0.61 euro from 24 to 72 hours and 0.84 euro beyond that, rates set on 1 January 2026 after the much steeper ones introduced the previous July. A fifty tonne jet left for more than three days costs around 1,000 euros a day |
| Customs and border control | Linate is an airport of entry, and flights from Britain cross the external Schengen border, so passports are checked. A general declaration is required for an international arrival, and the checks are done inside the terminal rather than at the aircraft |
| Handling | Every private flight goes through a handler in practice, because slots or permission are needed, the stand has to be booked in advance and customs, immigration and security all happen inside the general aviation terminal. The handler needs the schedule, the aircraft details and the passenger list ahead of the day |
| Traffic | 25,675 business aviation movements in 2024 on figures from the European Business Aviation Association, seventh in Europe and close to a fifth of all Italian business aviation movements, with business aviation making up 21 per cent of Linate's own traffic. SEA Prime, which runs the private terminals at Linate and Malpensa, counted 35,900 movements in 2025 and 18,200 across both terminals in the first half of 2026, with Linate Prime alone 15 per cent up on the same months a year earlier |
| Fuel | Jet A-1 through the handlers, with sustainable aviation fuel available at the private terminal as well |
| When Linate is full | Malpensa takes the overflow and the larger aircraft, Bergamo is the cheaper place to leave an aircraft for a few days, and Bresso, on the northern edge of the city, takes light aircraft and helicopters but has no customs |
Private passengers do not use the main terminal. They use Milano Linate Prime, the business aviation terminal run by SEA Prime on the western side of the field, with its own road entrance, lounges, customs and apron. Which handler meets you is the operator's choice, but tell us if you have a favourite and we will ask for it.
Linate Prime is the part of the trip most people remember, because the distance from the car door to the aircraft steps is measured in minutes. On a normal weekday the terminal turns over dozens of flights, and in the first months of 2026 the company recorded peaks of more than 130 movements a day across its Milan terminals.
Going home, twenty minutes at the terminal is plenty. The part worth planning is the road: the eastern ring road backs up from late afternoon, and a car that leaves the centre at six can take twice as long as one that leaves at eleven in the morning.

Milan is quick to reach and costly to park at, and these four points shape the way a trip is put together.
The parking meter works in your favour if you are buying an empty leg. The aircraft leaving Linate after a drop are real flights with a deadline, and the ones flying in to collect a party are just as real, so sectors appear in both directions most weeks of the year.

Italy charges a passenger tax on private charter flights that land in or take off from the country, which the operator collects and pays to the state, and Milan charges for parking by the tonne. Both end up in the quote, so it is worth knowing what they are.
A party of four flying between Milan and Britain pays 400 euros of Italian passenger tax on each sector, because London is inside the 1,500 kilometre band. The tax is due on any charter that departs from or arrives in Italy, including an empty leg once you are on board, and it shows on our quotes as its own line. For comparison, the same four leaving Nice or Cannes would pay 1,680 euros of French solidarity tax, and leaving Ibiza they would pay nothing today, although Spain is pressing for an EU wide levy on private flights.
The larger number is the aircraft itself. A charter on your own dates pays for the aircraft to reach you and to go home again, which on a route as short as London to Milan can be most of the bill. An empty leg is the half somebody else has already paid for.
When Linate has no stand, when the aircraft is too large for it, or when it has to wait several days, these are the alternatives.
Milan is compact and the airport is inside the ring road, so most of the city is a short drive. Times below are by road outside the peaks, which in Milan means the middle of the morning or after eight in the evening.
| Destination | By car | By air | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Duomo and the centre | 15 to 20 min | None needed | Straight down the ring road from the apron to the city |
| Porta Nuova and the business district | 20 to 25 min | None needed | Offices, the Bosco Verticale and the newer hotels |
| Quadrilatero della Moda | 20 min | None needed | Via Montenapoleone and the showrooms around it |
| Fiera Milano, Rho | 30 to 40 min | None needed | The Salone del Mobile and the big trade fairs |
| Monza and the circuit | 25 to 35 min | None needed | Race weekends make the road unpredictable |
| Lake Como, Cernobbio | 50 to 75 min | 15 to 20 min by helicopter | Villa d'Este and the western shore |
| Lake Garda, Sirmione | 1h 15m to 1h 40m | 35 min by helicopter | The southern shore and the spa hotels |
| Portofino | 2h 30m | 45 min by helicopter | Or a car to Genoa and a boat from there |
| St Moritz | 2h 45m to 3h 30m | 45 min by helicopter | The Maloja pass road can be slow in winter |
| Courmayeur and the Aosta valley | 2h to 2h 30m | Helicopter on request | The Mont Blanc side of the Alps |
The drive is rarely the problem in Milan; the hour is. An arrival at six in the evening on a fair day meets the ring road at its worst, and a mid morning slot can put you in a meeting before the same car would have reached the centre.

Milan is around two hours from most UK airports, which puts it in light jet range for a small party and midsize range for a full cabin. Prices below are for the whole cabin on a repositioning sector and leave out passenger taxes; for the charter equivalent on dates you choose, look at the table further up.

| Milan to Aberdeen | 2h 30m | 5,900 GBP | All year | Occasional in both directions |
Tuesdays to Thursdays are the days to watch on the business corridors, and the weekend either side of a fair or a race is where the leisure sectors appear. A party flown in for the Salone or for Monza is usually dropped and the aircraft goes within the hour, while the flight that returns to collect them often crosses from Britain with nobody aboard.

If you want to see what your route would cost as a standard charter, so you have something to measure an empty leg against, use the calculator below. Fill in the airports, the dates and the number of passengers, add any preference on aircraft type, and we will send a written calculation by email or messenger. Please check your contact details carefully so that we can reply quickly.
The figure the calculator returns is an estimate for planning. The firm quote comes back from our consultants with the cost broken out line by line, and the price agreed there is the price written into the contract.

If you would rather skip the arithmetic, send us the route and the dates instead and a consultant will come back with both numbers, the charter price and any empty leg that fits.
Britain left the EU customs union and the Schengen area, Italy is in both, and every Milan sector therefore crosses a hard border on the way out and again on the way home.
Milan works all year, which is unusual for a destination of this kind. The calendar below is about how hard the market is pulling in each month and what that does to the sectors that reach us.
March, October and November give the best value, with a full market and no event premium. In April and September book the charter early; an empty leg in those weeks is luck rather than planning.
Tell us your route - we'll respond within the hour.
A dog or cat leaving Britain for Italy needs a microchip, a rabies jab given at least 21 days earlier and an animal health certificate from an official vet, signed within ten days of the flight. British residents lost the use of the EU pet passport on 22 April 2026, so the health certificate is the only route, and that certificate now covers onward travel in the EU and the flight home for up to six months. Italy has no list of banned breeds, but a dog in a public place must be on a lead and the owner must carry a muzzle and be able to put it on if asked.

Plan the flight home first. The animal can only come home with an operator approved for that route into Great Britain, and a dog needs tapeworm treatment from a vet no less than 24 and no more than 120 hours before it lands. Milan has plenty of vets used to travelling animals, and the handler can point you at one near the airport. Mention the animal when you first write, and we will filter out the sectors whose operators will not carry it.
