Stockholm is the Swedish capital and one of the largest business centres in the Nordic countries, built on islands where Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic. It is the home of Ericsson, H&M, Spotify and Investor AB, and of the Nobel Prize. Two airports take private flights. Bromma, code BMA, lies about 7 kilometres north west of the centre and now serves almost only business aviation, while Arlanda, code ARN, is Sweden's main international airport about 37 kilometres to the north and is open around the clock. Flying time from London is roughly 2h 25m.
Bromma closes at 22:00 on weekdays, at 17:00 on Saturdays and does not open until noon on Sundays, and its long term future is under review, so the choice of airport shapes every Stockholm trip.

Stockholm sectors available today
The first list below shows every sector we hold into or out of Bromma and Arlanda; when both are quiet, it adds flights at Skavsta and Västerås instead. Underneath it, a table of ordinary charter fares for the same aircraft on your own dates shows how much every released flight saves.
Ask us what is available at Stockholm right now.
This board refreshes through the day as operators release sectors, and it shows only part of the market: a large share of repositioning flights never reach a public list at all. Check back shortly, or tell us your route and dates and we will look at what operators are holding at this moment.

Both columns assume an aircraft already at the departure airport, so no positioning flight is billed. Where an operator has to fly one in to collect you, a charter can run considerably higher than the figure shown. Prices also run in both directions: an empty leg exists only when an operator is moving that aircraft anyway, so the sector you want may run the other way this month. Tell us the route and we will watch both directions for you.
Set up an alert for Stockholm
Most empty legs are gone within hours of being released, and a good number are never published at all. Tell us the route and the window you can travel in, and we will message you the moment a matching sector comes up between the UK and Stockholm.
Please fill in both the departure and the arrival city.
Nothing is stored on this site. The button opens a chat with the message already written, and you send it yourself. We reply during office hours, 07:00 to 23:00, and check messages outside them too.
Why Stockholm produces empty legs
Stockholm lies about two and a half hours from most British airports, too far for a crew to wait cheaply and close enough for a two day business trip. Five local conditions turn a large share of private flights to the city into sectors that fly one way without passengers.
Nordic head offices
Ericsson in Kista, H&M, Spotify, SEB, Investor AB and the private equity firm EQT keep their head offices in Stockholm. Board meetings, investor visits and deal teams bring a steady run of weekday jets, which usually fly home between the drop and the collection.
A city airport left to business jets
Braathens Regional Airlines moved its last flights to Arlanda at the end of 2024, and Bromma carried only 25,232 passengers in 2025 against more than a million a year earlier. Almost nine in ten landings there in early 2025 were private or business flights, so a jet leaving Bromma empty is an everyday sight.
Weekend closures at Bromma
Bromma stops at 17:00 on Saturday and opens again at noon on Sunday, with no extensions. Jets that drop a party on Friday or Saturday often leave for home or for Arlanda rather than sit through the closure.
Parking that costs more at Bromma
After two free hours Swedavia charges about 31 kronor per tonne per day to park at Bromma and 16 kronor at Arlanda. For a stay of several days operators often reposition the aircraft, and each of those flights can be sold.
Island houses and regattas
From Midsummer to August families head for the islands of the Stockholm archipelago and sailors for Sandhamn. Weekend drops and collections create sectors in both directions.
Released flights turn up most often on the Monday to Friday links with London and Scotland, and leisure traffic adds the most between June and August, with short winter peaks around the Nobel week and Stockholm Design Week. Business sectors are fewest around New Year and in July, when the city's offices close for the summer, although leisure flights keep July busy.
Stockholm Bromma and Arlanda airports in detail
King Gustaf V opened Bromma on 23 May 1936, and for a quarter of a century it was the capital's main airport. International flights moved to Arlanda after it opened on 1 April 1962, and in the 2020s the domestic airlines followed, so Bromma today works as a business aviation airport with a handful of regional routes, such as those to Trollhättan and Växjö. Arlanda is Sweden's largest airport and the hub of SAS. Both belong to the state company Swedavia.
Codes
BMA (IATA) and ESSB (ICAO) for Bromma; ARN (IATA) and ESSA (ICAO) for Arlanda
Location
Bromma is about 7 kilometres north west of the city centre; Arlanda is in Sigtuna municipality, about 37 kilometres north of Stockholm
Opened
Bromma on 23 May 1936; Arlanda on 1 April 1962
Runway at Bromma
One asphalt runway, 12/30, of 1,668 metres by 45 metres, long enough for light, midsize and super midsize jets; long range jets and VIP airliners use Arlanda
Runways at Arlanda
Three runways: 01L/19R of 3,301 metres, 01R/19L of 2,500 metres and 08/26 of 2,500 metres
Opening hours
Bromma from 07:00 to 22:00 Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00 on Saturday and 12:00 to 22:00 on Sunday, with no business flights outside these hours; Arlanda around the clock
Slots
Both are level 3 coordinated airports, so every private flight needs a slot from Nordic Airport Coordination, with arrival and departure requested together
Traffic
Arlanda handled about 24.3 million passengers in 2025, some 7 per cent more than in 2024; Bromma saw 7,059 business aviation movements in 2025
Business jets
The Citation Latitude, with 731 movements, the Citation XLS, with 707, and the Phenom 300, with 570, were the most frequent types at Bromma in 2025; at Arlanda the Phenom 300, the Citation Sovereign and the Challenger 850 led
Handlers
At Bromma, Grafair Jet Center and IFLY FBO; at Arlanda, Grafair and ASE Handling for business aviation, with the airline handlers Aviator, Menzies and SAS Ground Handling also on the airfield
Movement cap
Bromma may handle up to 80,000 movements a year under its agreement with the City of Stockholm
Schengen
Sweden is in the EU and Schengen, so flights from Britain arrive at the external border, with EES registration on the first entry
Time zone
Central European Time, one hour ahead of London all year
For crews Stockholm is a straightforward destination with two well equipped airports half an hour apart. Winters bring snow and freezing fog from November to March, de icing is available at both, and Arlanda has a policy of never closing for snowfall. The real constraint is Bromma's timetable: a flight from Britain must land and leave within its hours, and any delay near 22:00, or 17:00 on a Saturday, pushes the departure to Arlanda. Each airport is the natural alternate for the other, with Skavsta and Västerås further out.
The long term future of Bromma is open. In October 2024 the City of Stockholm gave notice that its agreement with Swedavia will end on 31 December 2038, as it wants to build homes on the site. The government has so far refused an earlier closure and in 2025 appointed an inquiry into the state's airports and Bromma's role, due to report by 30 September 2026. Until any decision takes effect, business jets use Bromma as normal, and we always keep Arlanda in the plan.
Stockholm's private jet handlers: lounges, border checks and bags
Private passengers in Stockholm are received by independent FBOs, each with its own building and lounge, rather than in one shared terminal, and the police and customs come to them there.
Bromma or Arlanda
Bromma is a quarter of an hour from the centre, but it keeps short hours and suits jets up to super midsize. Arlanda is 40 minutes away by car and open all night for any aircraft. We recommend one or the other for each trip, and often land at one and leave from the other.
Grafair Jet Center at Bromma
Grafair has handled business jets at Bromma since 2004 and won the EBAN readers' survey of European FBOs in 2014. Drivers pull up at the door of its own building, security screening inside takes about a minute, and the aircraft waits on a private ramp no more than 30 metres from the lounge, so the walk from the car to the steps is over almost at once. The terminal fee is all inclusive, with the ground power unit and cabin heater in the price, and the desk is staffed from 06:00 to 22:30 on weekdays, 08:00 to 17:30 on Saturdays and 11:00 to 22:30 on Sundays.
IFLY FBO at Bromma
IFLY FBO, whose building was completed in 2020, is a smaller handler at Bromma with a VIP lounge, a crew rest area and a conference room for a meeting before the flight. Cars may drive onto the apron free of charge to meet passengers at the steps, and anyone who drives in can leave the car in secure parking on the airside. Guests can be in central Stockholm about 30 minutes after touchdown.
Grafair at Arlanda
At Arlanda Grafair runs a private terminal on Ramp J with its own apron, hangar and lounges, open all year around the clock. It is used to handling state visits and air ambulance flights as well as business jets, and serves aircraft too large or too late for Bromma.
ASE Handling at Arlanda
ASE Handling, a family owned company, works from the general aviation Ramp M, with its security gate at Pilotvägen 10. Its VIP and crew lounges offer free internet, drinks and snacks, and cars can drive right up to the aircraft. Its own chefs have prepared catering for more than 10,000 VIP aircraft and need 12 hours' notice for an order. The desk is open from 07:00 to 22:00 and at other hours on request.
Swedavia VIP rooms at Arlanda
The airport company runs its own VIP service from an entrance away from the terminals, where the car drives to the door and a private security check is waiting. The rooms, designed by the architects Tengbom in light wood with mostly Nordic furniture, offer champagne, soft drinks, coffee, snacks and fruit, breakfast until 10:00 and a choice of meals from 10:00 to 21:00. On departure a coordinator deals with check in and documents; on arrival guests are met at the aircraft door and their bags are brought to the room while customs formalities are completed.
What the VIP service costs
Swedavia charges 5,596 kronor before VAT for one passenger and 1,900 kronor for each further adult, with bulky baggage handled for 500 kronor. The service runs daily from 06:00 to 21:00, is booked through Swedavia in advance and suits anyone in the party travelling on an airline.
Swedish police and customs
A flight from Britain crosses the external Schengen border. Swedish border police check passports inside the handler's building, customs look at the bags there, and first time visitors are registered in the EES with fingerprints and a photograph. At Bromma the police work only while the airport is open.
Luggage from hold to car
Handler staff carry the bags from the hold to the car and back again on departure, with screening done in the private building and no check in queue. Skis for Åre, golf bags and sailing kit fit more easily into a midsize jet than a light one, so tell us what you are bringing.
Snacks, meals and catering
The handler lounges offer drinks and snacks rather than a restaurant, so hot food comes from catering ordered in advance through the handler, usually a day ahead. For a proper dinner before an evening flight from Bromma, the restaurants around Stureplan are about a quarter of an hour away.
Companions flying commercially
Members of the party booked on a scheduled flight go through Arlanda's airline terminals. Besides the Swedavia VIP rooms, they can use the Pearl lounges open to Priority Pass holders, the SAS lounges in Terminal 5 or an American Express lounge whose menu comes from the chef Pontus Frithiof; most of them close by about 21:30.
Meetings at the airport
When a trip is only a meeting, it can happen beside the aircraft: IFLY FBO has a conference room at Bromma, and at Arlanda the Clarion Hotel Arlanda Airport, between Terminals 4 and 5, has 44 meeting rooms, a rooftop pool and 430 bedrooms for anyone facing an early start.
The flight home
Be at the handler half an hour ahead of the slot. From Bromma the last departure must leave before 22:00 on a weekday and 17:00 on a Saturday, so late returns and Saturday evening flights go from Arlanda, where the handler also books de icing in winter.
How we plan a Stockholm flight
Bromma or Arlanda. We match the airport to the aircraft size, the arrival and departure times and the day of the week.
Slots on confirmation. Arrival and departure slots go in as one request on the day the aircraft is booked.
A margin before closing. For Bromma we plan departures well ahead of 22:00, or 17:00 on Saturdays, and keep Arlanda as the fallback.
Pets through Arlanda. A flight carrying a dog or cat from Britain lands at Arlanda, where it can be declared to Swedish Customs.
The ground plan. Your driver, Arlanda Express tickets or an island boat are booked in the same step as the flight.
Four things to know before booking Stockholm
Most Stockholm bookings hinge on the following points, which we check before holding a jet.
Bromma's short weekend
From Saturday evening to Sunday lunchtime the city airport is shut, and it grants no extensions, so weekend trips are timed around it.
A slot at either airport
Both airports are fully coordinated, so every private flight needs a slot, and the arrival and departure are requested as a pair.
Pets land at Arlanda
Dogs and cats from Britain may enter Sweden only at Arlanda or Gothenburg Landvetter and must be declared to customs, so they cannot fly into Bromma.
A city airport under review
The City of Stockholm wants Bromma closed by the end of 2038, and a government inquiry reports in autumn 2026, so we watch for any change in the rules.
From the airport to Stockholm, the suburbs and the archipelago
Bromma sits almost inside the city, while Arlanda lies among the fields to the north, closer to Sigtuna and Uppsala. The times below are for a car outside the rush hour; the Arlanda Express train reaches Stockholm Central in about 18 minutes.

The ferry harbour for the outer archipelago and its sailing centre
The archipelago has around 30,000 islands, and in summer the fastest way to a private island house is often a boat or a seaplane from the city. For skiing, a jet can continue to Åre Östersund Airport in about an hour, and for Almedalen Week on Gotland, Visby Airport lies about 190 kilometres to the south.
What else you pay on a Swedish trip
The jet is by far the largest cost of a Stockholm trip; airport charges add a small sum, and most operators include them.
Band A
for UK Air Passenger Duty on jets of 5.7 tonnes or more, since Stockholm is well within 2,000 miles of London
No flight tax
Sweden abolished its tax on air travel on 1 July 2025, so there is no Swedish passenger tax on the way home
46 kronor
Swedavia's 2026 security charge per departing passenger on aircraft over 10 tonnes; its passenger charge does not apply to private and taxi flights
Parking
free for two hours, then about 31 kronor per tonne per day at Bromma and 16 kronor at Arlanda
Air Passenger Duty is charged when the jet leaves the UK. In the 2026 to 2027 tax year the Band A charge on a private jet is 32 GBP a passenger from 5.7 to 20 tonnes and 142 GBP at 20 tonnes or more; the new tax year in April 2027 replaces both with a single 146.63 GBP for every jet from 5.7 tonnes. Jets below 5.7 tonnes, including the M2 and CJ2 in our table, and departures from the Channel Islands owe nothing. Departures from Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow move to the Scottish Air Departure Tax in April 2027, with a separate charge on private jets planned for later.

Skavsta, Västerås, Visby and the other airports around Stockholm
Bromma and Arlanda, listed first below, take nearly every private flight to the capital; the other three serve as alternates or for trips that begin or end elsewhere.
Stockholm Bromma, ESSB. The city airport, 7 kilometres from the centre, with a 1,668 metre runway, two main handlers and strict opening hours.
Stockholm Arlanda, ESSA. The international airport, about 33 kilometres north of Bromma in a straight line, with runways of up to 3,301 metres, private terminals and customs at any hour.
Stockholm Skavsta, ESKN. About 90 kilometres south west of the city in a straight line, near Nyköping, with a 2,878 metre runway. It is a designated contingency airport available around the clock and a useful alternate when fog covers both Stockholm airports.
Stockholm Västerås, ESOW. About 90 kilometres to the west in a straight line, with a 2,581 metre runway and a long tradition of general aviation, handy for the industrial towns of the Mälaren valley.
Visby, ESSV. On Gotland, about 190 kilometres south of Stockholm, with a 2,000 metre runway 3.5 kilometres from the walled town. It fills with private jets during Almedalen Week at the end of June.
Popular routes between the UK and Stockholm, and which way they run empty
Each amount below is what one party pays to have the jet to itself on a sector the operator must fly anyway; single seats are not sold. Flight times cover only the time in the air, not the drive at each end. Stockholm is in range of the smallest jets, so the list runs from the Citation M2 and CJ2 up to the Challenger 350, and a larger jet on a short route can cost more than a small one on a long route. If your dates are fixed, the second list near the top gives the full charter fare for each aircraft.

Online calculator
If you want to see what your route would cost as a standard charter, so you have something to measure an empty leg against, use the calculator below. Fill in the airports, the dates and the number of passengers, add any preference on aircraft type, and we will send a written calculation by email or messenger. Please check your contact details carefully so that we can reply quickly.
The figure the calculator returns is an estimate for planning. The firm quote comes back from our consultants with the cost broken out line by line, and the price agreed there is the price written into the contract.
If you would rather skip the arithmetic, send us the route and the dates instead and a consultant will come back with both numbers, the charter price and any empty leg that fits.
Border and customs rules for Sweden
Sweden applies EU and Schengen rules at the border and adds a few national ones, which affect British passengers as follows.
Passport. Your British passport must be less than ten years old on arrival and have three months of validity left beyond your last day in Schengen.
90 days in 180. Time in Sweden counts towards the shared Schengen limit, so a British visitor may stay no more than 90 days in any 180.
EES. On your first Schengen arrival the entry and exit system stores your fingerprints and face; for children under 12 a photograph is enough.
Alcohol. Travellers from outside the EU may import 4 litres of still wine and 16 of beer, and in addition one litre of spirits or two litres of fortified or sparkling wine. In Sweden you must be at least 20 to bring alcohol in.
Tobacco and goods. Travellers of 18 and over may bring 200 cigarettes, and other goods worth up to 5,000 kronor arrive duty free by air.
Food. EU rules keep all British meat and dairy products out, from a picnic ham to a wedge of cheddar.
Money. Sweden uses the krona and is one of the most cashless countries in Europe, so cards and phone payments work almost everywhere; cash of 10,000 euros or more must be declared.
Home again. The UK allowance on your return is 270 GBP of goods per adult arriving privately, together with generous drink limits: 42 litres of beer, 18 of wine and 4 of spirits, plus 200 cigarettes. Once the categories change on 1 October 2026, a case of cider is counted against beer and a bottle of champagne against wine.

Three situations, three answers
A day of meetings in Stockholm
Leave London at seven, land at Bromma around half past ten local time and be in Stureplan or Kista before eleven. Fly home the same evening, well before the 22:00 closing. The aircraft can wait on the ramp for the day, but booking either leg as a released sector saves money.
A weekend on the archipelago
Land at Bromma on Friday afternoon, drive an hour to Stavsnäs and take the boat to Sandhamn. Bromma is closed on Saturday evening and Sunday morning, so plan the return for Sunday afternoon; the jet goes home in between, and both directions can be matched with released sectors.
Almedalen and the capital
Fly straight to Visby for Almedalen Week, cross to Stockholm by ferry or a short airline flight, and fly home from Bromma or Arlanda. With a different airport at each end, there are two sets of sectors to match.
Flying a dog or cat to Sweden
Pets travelling from Britain must be microchipped and vaccinated against rabies at least three weeks before the trip, and must travel with an animal health certificate from an official vet, valid for ten days. Sweden does not ask for a tapeworm treatment on the way in, but animals from Britain may enter only at Stockholm Arlanda or Gothenburg Landvetter and must be declared to Swedish Customs through the red channel, so a flight with a pet lands at Arlanda, not Bromma. During the flight your dog or cat rides beside you rather than in a hold.
The way home needs more care. Sweden is not among the countries whose dogs Britain excuses from its tapeworm rule, so a Swedish vet must treat the dog between 24 and 120 hours before it lands in the UK, and only approved carriers and routes may be used. Tell us about a pet at the start, since a few operators do not carry animals.

Bromma, BMA, about 7 kilometres from the centre, for jets up to super midsize within its opening hours, and Arlanda, ARN, about 37 kilometres north, for larger aircraft, night flights and anyone travelling with a pet.
Is Bromma still open?
Yes. Nearly all airline routes have gone to Arlanda, yet the airport stays open and business jets now make up most of its traffic. Its agreement with the city runs out at the end of 2038, and the state's review of its role is due by 30 September 2026.
How long is the flight from the UK to Stockholm?
About 2h 05m from Aberdeen, 2h 10m to 2h 20m from Newcastle, Edinburgh, Leeds, Glasgow and Manchester, 2h 25m to 2h 30m from London, Farnborough, Biggin Hill, Oxford, Birmingham, Liverpool and Southampton, 2h 35m to 2h 40m from Bristol, Cardiff, Belfast and Dublin, and about 2h 45m from Jersey.
What are the opening hours at Bromma?
Weekdays 07:00 to 22:00, Saturdays 09:00 to 17:00 and Sundays 12:00 to 22:00. No private flight may land or take off outside these times; Arlanda, open day and night, covers the gap.
Do Stockholm airports require slots?
Yes, at both airports. Bromma and Arlanda are fully coordinated, and the operator requests the arrival and departure slots together from Nordic Airport Coordination.

Each handler has its own. At Bromma, Grafair Jet Center and IFLY FBO receive private passengers in their own buildings; at Arlanda, Grafair runs a private terminal on Ramp J and ASE Handling a lounge on Ramp M.

Is there a Swedish departure tax?
No. Sweden abolished its aviation tax on 1 July 2025. Swedavia's security charge of 46 kronor per departing passenger still applies to aircraft over 10 tonnes, and British Air Passenger Duty applies to jets of 5.7 tonnes or more leaving the UK.
Can our dog fly with us to Stockholm?
Yes, if it has a microchip, a rabies vaccination and an animal health certificate, but the flight must land at Arlanda, where the dog is declared to customs. For the return a Swedish vet must treat it against tapeworm.
Do British visitors need a visa for Sweden?
