Empty leg flights to and from Brussels

Brussels is the capital of Belgium and the working capital of the European Union, home to the European Commission, the Council and the Parliament, and to the headquarters of NATO. Around the Grand Place, one of the finest squares in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city adds chocolate shops, Art Nouveau houses and some of the best restaurants in the Low Countries. Private flights use Brussels Airport, code BRU, at Zaventem about 12 kilometres north east of the centre, where business jets are handled in the general aviation area by ExecuJet and AviaVIP. A jet from London is on the ground in Brussels in about an hour.

Brussels is open to business jets around the clock in principle, but its night slots are limited, and at weekends no departures are allowed in the small hours. We check every flight against these rules and book the slot, the handler and the car with it.

Brussels sectors available today

Below you will find every sector we hold into or out of Brussels Airport, together with released flights at Antwerp, Charleroi and Liège, all within about an hour of the capital. The second list prices the same aircraft as a normal charter on your own dates, which shows the discount each empty leg carries.

Quantity: 1

9 Nov 2026 Farnborough, GB (FAB/EGLF) Brussels, BE (BRU/EBBR) Dassault Falcon 7X 14 17,600 GBP Request

Prices are for the whole aircraft and are shown in pounds. Some are indicative figures worked out from the distance and the class of jet; the firm price is confirmed with the operator when you send a request.

Also moving across Antwerp, Charleroi and Liège

Sectors on this list do not touch Brussels itself. They are shown because the fields are close enough that the drive rarely costs you more than waiting for the right sector does. Tell us which one interests you and we will confirm it is still open.

Both columns assume an aircraft already at the departure airport, so no positioning flight is billed. Where an operator has to fly one in to collect you, a charter can run considerably higher than the figure shown. Prices also run in both directions: an empty leg exists only when an operator is moving that aircraft anyway, so the sector you want may run the other way this month. Tell us the route and we will watch both directions for you.

Set up an alert for Brussels

Most empty legs are gone within hours of being released, and a good number are never published at all. Tell us the route and the window you can travel in, and we will message you the moment a matching sector comes up between the UK and Brussels.

Please fill in both the departure and the arrival city.

Nothing is stored on this site. The button opens a chat with the message already written, and you send it yourself. We reply during office hours, 07:00 to 23:00, and check messages outside them too.

Where the empty legs to Brussels come from

Most private flights to Brussels are short business trips. The aircraft brings its passengers in the morning and leaves again rather than waiting all day, and a return from Britain often goes back without anyone on board.

The European institutions
Ministers, lobbyists, lawyers and company boards come for meetings at the Commission, the Council and the Parliament, above all around European Council summits. Visits last a day or two, so jets reposition in both directions.
NATO and diplomacy
NATO headquarters stands a few minutes from the runway, and more than a hundred embassies and missions work in the city. Delegations arrive on their own schedule, which releases aircraft at short notice.
Industry and logistics
The port of Antwerp, the chemical plants around it and the pharmaceutical companies of Flanders and Wallonia bring engineers and executives on weekday trips.
Festivals and motor racing
Tomorrowland fills the fields at Boom over two weekends in the second half of July, and the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa is on 25 July 2027. Guests fly in and out at different times, and the aircraft often return empty.
Brussels Motor Show
The motor show at Brussels Expo runs from 8 to 17 January 2027 and brings a winter peak of manufacturers, dealers and visitors.

Released sectors are steady from Monday to Thursday all year on the business routes, and busiest around summits and events. July brings a festival and motor racing peak, while August and the Christmas holidays are the quietest weeks.

Brussels Airport in detail

The present airport was inaugurated on 5 July 1958, in time for the World's Fair held in Brussels that year, and it shares its runways with the Melsbroek air base of the Belgian Air Force. In 2025 it handled 24.4 million passengers and 204,147 aircraft movements. Brussels Airport Company runs the airport, and slots are allocated by Belgium Slot Coordination. Business aviation is handled away from the passenger terminal in the general aviation area, where ExecuJet and AviaVIP receive private flights.

Codes BRU (IATA) and EBBR (ICAO)
Location Zaventem, about 12 kilometres north east of Brussels city centre
Runways Three: 07L/25R of 3,638 metres, 07R/25L of 3,210 metres and 01/19 of 2,987 metres
Elevation 53 metres, or 175 feet, above sea level
Operator Brussels Airport Company, with the Melsbroek air base sharing the runways
Slots A coordinated airport; operating a flight without a slot is a criminal offence under Belgian law
Night period From 23:00 to 05:59 local time, with a limited number of night slots allocated by noise quota
Weekend nights No departure slots between 01:00 and 06:00 on the night from Friday to Saturday, or between 00:00 and 06:00 on the nights from Saturday to Sunday and from Sunday to Monday
Weekend landings Since 29 March 2026 only aircraft with a noise quota count of 2 or less may land between 01:00 and 04:59 on weekend nights
Traffic 24.4 million passengers and 204,147 movements in 2025
Business aircraft The Citation XLS, the Pilatus PC-12 and the Citation CJ4 were the private types seen most often in 2025
Train At least four trains an hour from the station under the terminal to the city centre
Time zone Central European Time, one hour ahead of London all year

For operators Brussels is a big, well equipped airport with long runways, instrument approaches and few weather problems beyond winter fog. The limits are the slots and the night rules. Most modern business jets have a low noise quota count, so a late weekday arrival can often be planned, but a departure in the early hours of Saturday, Sunday or Monday is not possible. Antwerp, Charleroi and Liège are the usual alternates.

Private terminals at Brussels Airport: handlers, lounges and formalities

Private passengers do not use the public terminal. Two handlers approved by Brussels Airport Company work in the general aviation area, each with its own lounge, parking and direct access to the apron.

ExecuJet Brussels
In Building 28, ExecuJet runs a 750 square metre executive terminal with a lounge overlooking the tarmac, three conference rooms for up to eight people each and a pilot lounge with workstations, printers, satellite television and a rest area. The company is part of the Luxaviation group, whose Belgian arm grew out of Abelag, founded in 1964.
ExecuJet hours
ExecuJet is open from 07:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and from 08:30 to 17:30 at weekends and on public holidays, with service around the clock on request. We book any extension with the flight.
AviaVIP Brussels
At Ringweg 36C, AviaVIP is open from 06:00 to 23:00 and available at any hour on request. It offers separate passenger and crew lounges, parking on site, access for limousines and delegation cars to the ramp and large hangar space. Its multilingual team speaks English, French, Dutch, German, Spanish, Greek and Arabic.
Customs and passport control
Both handlers have security, customs and border checks on site, so passengers walk from the lounge to the aircraft. Coming from Britain means entering Schengen, so first timers are also enrolled in the EES with fingerprints and a photo.
Cars at the aircraft
Delegation and limousine access to the ramp can be arranged for protocol visits, and both handlers organise chauffeurs, taxis and hire cars for the drive into the city.
Baggage
The handling team collects luggage at the car, screens it and loads it into the hold, and on arrival brings it straight to your vehicle. Let us know about large sample cases or exhibition equipment in advance.
Meetings on arrival
ExecuJet's conference rooms and AviaVIP's lounges suit a meeting on the ground, so a delegation can hold talks at the airport and fly on without going into the city.
VIP and security services
ExecuJet coordinates presidential, diplomatic and VIP flights, VVIP catering, security agents and personal protection, which matters for government and corporate delegations. For official visits, access to the VIP lounges of ExecuJet and of Aviapartner Executive, now AviaVIP, is governed by the protocol service of the Belgian foreign ministry.
Inside the ExecuJet terminal
The interior has been newly remodelled. A reception with a refreshment bar serves complimentary drinks and light food, there is a shower room, and gourmet catering can be ordered for the flight. Valet parking is offered, and heated hangar space is available.
Aircraft services
ExecuJet arranges Jet A1 fuel, de icing, ground power, air start units, potable water and oxygen, with fuel around the clock on request, which helps with quick turnarounds. With AviaVIP we arrange fuel and de icing as part of the flight plan.
Companions on Brussels Airlines
Members of the group booked on Brussels Airlines or other airlines check in at the public terminal, or can use the airport's ALTITUDE service, a private terminal and lounge for airline passengers where staff take care of the formalities. The service includes a lounge with refreshments, work spaces and showers, fast track security and a limousine to the aircraft.
Departure day
Be at the handler about 20 to 30 minutes before the slot. On a Friday or Saturday evening, check with us that the departure falls well before the weekend night ban.

How we plan a Brussels flight

  • The slot. We request arrival and departure slots with the coordinator as soon as the aircraft is fixed.
  • Noise quota. For any flight near the night period we check the aircraft's quota count and the weekend rules.
  • The handler. We choose ExecuJet or AviaVIP according to the day, the hours and the services needed.
  • Belgian tax. The embarkation tax on the flight home is shown as a separate line.
  • The drive. Cars to the European Quarter, NATO or a hotel are booked with the flight.

Four points to check before booking Brussels

These questions come up on most Brussels trips, and we answer them when we quote.

Weekend nights
Departure slots vanish in the early hours of Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and at weekends only very quiet aircraft may land at night.
Handler hours
ExecuJet works shorter hours at weekends, so an early Sunday or late Saturday flight needs an extension or AviaVIP.
Summit weeks
European Council summits and NATO meetings bring motorcades and delegations, and slots and hotels become scarce.
Embarkation tax
Belgium taxes every departing passenger, private flights included, so the return leg carries a small extra charge.

From the airport to the European Quarter, the city and the rest of Belgium

Brussels Airport sits just outside the ring road, so the institutions and the centre are close. The times below are for a car in light traffic; the ring road and the E40 are slow at rush hour, when the train from the airport station can be faster.

Destination By car from the airport What is there
NATO headquarters About 10 minutes The alliance headquarters at Haren
European Quarter About 20 minutes The Commission, the Council and the Parliament around Schuman
Leuven About 20 minutes The university town and the headquarters of AB InBev
Grand Place and the centre About 25 minutes The historic centre, the main hotels and the Royal Palace
Avenue Louise About 30 minutes Luxury shopping and the Ixelles district
Waterloo About 35 minutes The battlefield and the southern suburbs
Antwerp About 40 minutes The port, the diamond district and the old town
Ghent About 50 minutes Canals, medieval streets and the Van Eyck altarpiece
Bruges About 1h 15m The UNESCO listed medieval centre
Spa Francorchamps About 1h 30m The Belgian Grand Prix circuit in the Ardennes

For the Grand Prix, a helicopter from the airport avoids the traffic around Spa, and landing at Liège instead of Brussels cuts the drive to about 45 minutes.

Taxes and charges on a Brussels trip

Besides the aircraft, you pay passenger taxes in Britain and Belgium, the handler's fee and the airport's charges, which rise for noisier aircraft and for movements at night.

Band A
the UK Air Passenger Duty band for Brussels, within 2,000 miles of London, charged on jets of 5.7 tonnes or more
10 euros
Belgian embarkation tax per passenger in 2026 on flights under 500 kilometres, including London and southern England; 5 euros on longer routes
Handling
charged by ExecuJet or AviaVIP for the lounge, the formalities, security and the baggage
Night charges
Brussels Airport's charges are higher for noisier aircraft and for movements in the night period

UK Air Passenger Duty is charged on the flight out. For Brussels, which is in Band A, a jet from 5.7 to 20 tonnes pays 32 GBP a passenger and a heavier jet 142 GBP until 31 March 2027, after which every private jet of 5.7 tonnes or more pays 146.63 GBP a passenger. A Citation M2 or another jet below 5.7 tonnes is outside the duty altogether, as are Jersey and Guernsey departures, while Scottish airports get a tax of their own from April 2027. For the flight home, Belgium's embarkation tax applies to private flights as well as airlines: 10 euros a passenger for a destination under 500 kilometres and 5 euros beyond that; from 1 January 2027 the longer routes, which include Scotland and Ireland, rise to 7 euros, and the short routes go to 10.50 euros in 2028 and 11 euros in 2029. Repositioning flights without passengers are exempt.

Antwerp, Charleroi, Liège and the other airports near Brussels

Brussels Airport handles most private flights to the capital, but these airports are useful for Antwerp and the port, for Wallonia and for Spa.

Brussels Airport, EBBR. The main airport, 12 kilometres from the centre, with three long runways, two handlers and slots for every movement.
Antwerp, EBAW. About 40 kilometres to the north, just south of Antwerp, with a runway of 1,510 metres suited to light and midsize jets; handy for the port and the diamond district.
Charleroi, EBCI. About 50 kilometres to the south, with a business aviation terminal open from 07:00 to 21:00, extendable within the airport's hours of 06:30 to 23:00, for aircraft up to 45.5 tonnes. It has conference rooms for up to 35 people, showers for crews and a café.
Liège, EBLG. About 95 kilometres to the east, a large cargo airport with a long runway, the closest airport for business jets flying to the Spa Francorchamps circuit.

Popular routes from the UK and Ireland to Brussels, and which way they run empty

We sell these flights by the aircraft, never by the seat, and each one is a positioning trip the operator has already scheduled. The times are airborne only. Because Brussels is barely an hour from southern England, light jets such as the Citation M2, CJ2 and Phenom 300 dominate, with a Citation XLS+, Latitude or Challenger 350 for larger groups. Travellers tied to particular dates can read the normal fare off the second list near the top.

Entering Belgium from Britain: border and customs rules

Belgium belongs to the EU and Schengen, so a private flight from Britain is checked by the Belgian federal police and customs at the handler. The points below cover what travellers ask about most.

  • Passport validity. Belgian officers accept a British passport issued in the last decade, provided it will still be valid for three months after your departure from Schengen.
  • Length of stay. Short visits need no visa, within the Schengen rule of 90 days in any 180, and days spent in France or the Netherlands on the same trip count too.
  • EES. First time travellers into Schengen give four fingerprints and a photograph; under 12s give the photograph only.
  • Duty free into Belgium. Arriving by air, an adult can bring in, free of Belgian duty, a carton of cigarettes, one litre of spirits or double that of fizz or port, four litres of table wine, sixteen litres of beer and up to 430 euros of other purchases.
  • Food. Meat and dairy products from the UK cannot be brought into the EU.
  • Cash. Anyone carrying 10,000 euros or more must declare it to customs.
  • Chocolate and beer. For the flight home, Belgian beer counts towards the British beer allowance of 42 litres, and chocolates are simply part of the 270 GBP of other goods.
  • Back in Britain. After a private flight each adult may also bring 18 litres of wine, 4 litres of spirits and 200 cigarettes duty free, and from 1 October 2026 sparkling wine and cider are counted with wine and beer.

Three situations, three answers

A day at the Commission
Take off from Farnborough at 07:30, land at Zaventem at 09:30 local time and reach the Berlaymont by about 10:15. After the last meeting the aircraft brings you home in the early evening, and its morning positioning often becomes an empty leg.
Tomorrowland weekend
Fly in on Friday, stay near Antwerp or Boom and fly home on Monday. Weekend night departures are banned, so plan the return for the day, and book the slots early for the festival weekends.
The Belgian Grand Prix
Land at Liège or Brussels on Saturday 24 July 2027, watch the race at Spa on Sunday and leave on Monday morning to avoid the traffic and the weekend night ban.

Taking a dog or cat to Brussels

The animal must be microchipped, vaccinated against rabies at least 21 days before travel and covered by an animal health certificate that an official vet has issued in the ten days before you arrive in the EU. The handler presents it to Belgian customs on arrival, and a traveller may bring no more than five pets.

Dog in the cabin of a private jet to Brussels

Before flying back to Britain, a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between one and five days before arrival, because Belgium is not exempt, and the aircraft must be operated by a company approved to carry pets into Britain. We confirm the operator's rules for the cabin and go through the paperwork with you.

Flying privately to Brussels: common questions

Which airport should a private jet use for Brussels?
Brussels Airport, code BRU, at Zaventem. Private flights are handled by ExecuJet or AviaVIP, and Antwerp, Charleroi and Liège are the alternatives.
How long is the flight to Brussels from British and Irish airports?
About 55 minutes from Biggin Hill, 1h 00m to 1h 10m from London, Farnborough, Southampton, Oxford, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Leeds, Jersey and Guernsey, 1h 15m from Cardiff, 1h 20m from Newcastle, and 1h 30m to 1h 35m from Edinburgh, Dublin, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Belfast.
Can we fly to Brussels at night?
On weekdays a quiet business jet can often obtain a night slot. From Friday night to Monday morning the small hours are closed to departures, and only the quietest aircraft may land then.
Is a slot needed?
Yes. Brussels is a coordinated airport, and every departure and arrival needs a slot from Belgium Slot Coordination; flying without one is an offence under Belgian law.
What does an empty leg to Brussels cost?
Our lowest fares, around 2,200 GBP for the entire Citation M2, are on the Oxford, Southampton, Cardiff and Guernsey sectors. Chartering the same aircraft for your own timetable would cost somewhere between 5,300 GBP and 14,800 GBP.
What is the Belgian embarkation tax?
A tax on each passenger leaving a Belgian airport, private flights included: 10 euros for destinations under 500 kilometres and 5 euros beyond in 2026, and from 1 January 2027 the rate for 500 kilometres or more rises to 7 euros.
How far is the European Quarter from the airport?
About 20 minutes by car in light traffic, and NATO headquarters is about 10 minutes away.
Can we land at Antwerp instead?
Yes, in a light or midsize jet. Antwerp's runway is 1,510 metres long, and the airport is convenient for the port and the diamond district.
Can our dog travel with us to Brussels?
Yes. A chipped and vaccinated dog with its EU health certificate can come, and a Belgian vet will need to deworm it between one and five days before you land in Britain.
Do British visitors need a visa for Belgium?
No. A British passport is enough for business or a holiday, within the usual three months in any six.
And if nothing is released for my dates?
Send us the dates, the number of passengers and the purpose of the trip, whether meetings with the institutions, an event or a weekend away. Aircraft fly between Britain and Brussels every day, so a suitable sector usually appears within a few days.

Call +44 7857 574938 , message the same number on WhatsApp , or write to flight@empty-leg.co.uk . Share the dates, the number in your party, what they are carrying and the address you need to reach. Back comes a short list of sectors with their charter comparisons, the slots already requested, the handler chosen and a driver at the steps.
