Empty leg flights to and from Turin

Turin was the first capital of united Italy, and it still looks the part: baroque squares, royal palaces, about 18 kilometres of arcaded streets, the Mole Antonelliana over the rooftops and the Egyptian Museum, whose collection is second only to Cairo's. It is also the home of Fiat, Lavazza and Juventus, and the gateway to two very different escapes. To the west and north rise the Alps, with Sestriere and the Via Lattea on one side and Courmayeur and Cervinia on the other, all within about two hours by car; to the south lie the Langhe hills, where Barolo, Barbaresco and the white truffle of Alba are made. Piedmont keeps Italian time, one hour ahead of London, and a light jet from the Thames reaches Turin in about an hour and three quarters.

For private flights the city is served by Turin Airport at Caselle, code TRN, about 16 kilometres north of the centre. Unlike many Italian airports popular with British travellers, Caselle has a long runway, a general aviation terminal of its own and an all weather landing system built for the fog of the Po valley.

Turin sectors available today

The first list below shows the sectors currently offered into or out of Turin. When Turin itself is quiet, it adds flights at Cuneo and Aosta, the smaller airports used for the Langhe and the Aosta valley. The second list prices the same aircraft as ordinary charters on the dates you choose.

Both columns assume an aircraft already at the departure airport, so no positioning flight is billed. Where an operator has to fly one in to collect you, a charter can run considerably higher than the figure shown. Prices also run in both directions: an empty leg exists only when an operator is moving that aircraft anyway, so the sector you want may run the other way this month. Tell us the route and we will watch both directions for you.

Set up an alert for Turin

Most empty legs are gone within hours of being released, and a good number are never published at all. Tell us the route and the window you can travel in, and we will message you the moment a matching sector comes up between the UK and Turin.

Please fill in both the departure and the arrival city.

Nothing is stored on this site. The button opens a chat with the message already written, and you send it yourself. We reply during office hours, 07:00 to 23:00, and check messages outside them too.

Where the empty legs at Turin come from

Turin is not a place where jets wait for long. Owners and operators bring passengers in and take the aircraft away again, and every one of those journeys without passengers can be sold.

Ski weeks in the Via Lattea
From December to April Caselle is the nearest large airport to Sestriere, Sauze d'Oulx, Sansicario and Claviere. Chalet weeks change on Saturdays, so the jet that drops one family usually leaves empty and returns a week later for the collection.
Truffles, Barolo and the Langhe
From October to early December the white truffle market in Alba and the last of the Nebbiolo harvest in the Barolo hills bring collectors, restaurateurs and wine buyers. Most stay a few days, and their aircraft rarely stay with them.
Industry and the motor trade
Turin remains a city of engineering, from Stellantis at Mirafiori to the design studios and suppliers around them. Executives fly in for a day of meetings, and the aircraft often goes back empty or on to its next job.
Tennis, football and festivals
The ATP Finals fill the city in November, Juventus plays at the Allianz Stadium from August to May, and the book fair, art fairs and concerts bring spikes of arrivals that leave aircraft repositioning in both directions.
A busy regional airport
Caselle passed five million passengers for the first time in 2025. The Citation Mustang, the Legacy 600 and the Phenom 300 are common choices for Turin.

Sectors appear in every month, but the ski season and the autumn weeks of truffles, wine and tennis produce the most. With a runway long enough for any business jet, Turin also releases larger aircraft, from a Challenger to a Global, when they fly home empty after dropping a group.

Turin Caselle Airport in detail

The airport at Caselle Torinese opened to civil traffic in 1953 on the site of a wartime air base and is named after Sandro Pertini, the former President of Italy. It was renovated for the football World Cup of 1990 and again for the Winter Olympics of 2006, and it has won the ACI Europe award for airports of its size four times, most recently in 2024. The operator is SAGAT, controlled by the Italian infrastructure fund F2i. Leonardo builds and tests aircraft in two plants on the same site, so do not be surprised to see military aircraft on the far side of the runway.

Codes TRN (IATA) and LIMF (ICAO)
Location Caselle Torinese, about 16 kilometres north of the centre of Turin
Runway A single asphalt runway, 18/36, of 3,300 metres by 60 metres, long enough for any business jet
Landing aids An ILS certified to category III on runway 36, still usable when fog cuts visibility to about 200 metres
Elevation 301 metres, or 989 feet, above sea level
Operator SAGAT, the Turin airport company
Hours Listed as open around the clock, with the tower staffed at all times
Night rules Noise rules restrict take offs and landings at night, traditionally from 23:00 to 06:00 local time, with an exemption for jets that meet the ICAO Chapter 3 noise standard
Permission PPR required for every private flight, filed through the SAGAT online system at least 2 hours before arrival
Handling Compulsory; SAGAT lists SAGAT Handling, Aviapartner, Argos VIP Private Handling and Esair, the second and third of which now trade together as AviaVIP
Fire cover Category 8, enough for wide body airliners such as a Boeing 767
Traffic A record 5,006,169 passengers in 2025, 6.7 per cent more than in 2024

For crews, Caselle is a straightforward airport with one complication: the weather. Runway 36, the preferred direction, has approach lights and an ILS for landings in dense fog, which can sit over the Po plain for days in late autumn and winter, while runway 18 has no ILS. The Alps begin about 15 kilometres to the west and north, so approaches and departures follow published routes around the high ground. The airport is a coordinated one, and every private flight must hold a PPR before it lands, but there is no published limit comparable to the 24 hour rule at Florence, and a jet can usually stay overnight or longer once the handler has booked the stand.

The general aviation terminal and its handlers

Private flights at Caselle use a terminal of their own, set apart from the airline building, with its own apron, lounges and border controls. SAGAT's list names four handlers for business aircraft, but two of them, Aviapartner and Argos VIP, now trade together as AviaVIP, so in practice the choice is between AviaVIP, Esair and SAGAT Handling, and it is normally the operator who makes it.

A terminal just for private flights
The general aviation terminal covers about 4,700 square metres on three floors, with offices, lounges and rooms for passengers and crews. Its apron of about 21,000 square metres has eight stands, and SAGAT centralises the allocation of stands, the follow me cars and security.
Esair Handling
Esair has worked in the general aviation terminal since 1990, on Strada San Maurizio. It runs a VIP lounge for passengers and crews, two hangars close to the terminal, fuel from World Fuel and Air BP, de icing, catering from Turin restaurants and cars through partner companies, with staff from 06:00 to 22:00 and around the clock on request.
SAGAT Handling executive desk
The airport company's own handler has an executive service for private flights, reached through its own telephone line and email address, and covers everything from ramp work to passenger assistance.
AviaVIP, a lounge with a prayer room
AviaVIP is the brand formed when Aviapartner Executive and Argos VIP combined, and its network covers some twenty Italian airports, Milan, Bologna and Florence among them. Its Turin FBO is staffed around the clock. Passengers wait in a VIP lounge with its own prayer room, crews in a separate room, and the office offers wireless internet, computers and a printer; police and customs clear passengers on site, cars can be parked for a short or long stay, hire cars come through partner firms and pets are accepted.
Coffee and snacks, meals to order
You will not find a restaurant on the business aviation side of Caselle, and no handler advertises one. The lounges serve coffee, soft drinks and snacks, and a real meal for the flight is ordered in advance through the handler's caterer. With time to spare, the handler can drop you at the passenger terminal, whose upper departures level is open to the public, with the Ingredienti self service restaurant at lunch and dinner, a Panella bakery and a seating area behind a glass wall facing the runway; anyone flying on by airline also finds an Eataly bar and restaurant beyond security.
Fuel, hangars and security
Jet A1 and Avgas are both available, hangar space can be booked for aircraft that stay, and SAGAT provides security services, including the escort of sporting guns carried by passengers.
Where the airline passengers wait
If one of your party flies home on an airline, the Piemonte Lounge sits after security on the upper level of the departures hall and opens from 04:30 to 21:00. It offers sweet and savoury snacks, aperitifs and soft drinks, a digital newsstand, television, wireless internet, lockers for hand luggage and flight screens. A day pass costs 32 euros, with Fast Track through security included when bought online or at the airport ticket office, half price for children and free for infants under two; Priority Pass and several airline cards are accepted.

We can ask for a particular handler when you book, and the handler arranges anything the lounge does not have, from a meal for the flight to a car and driver.

Landing at Caselle, from the steps to the car

A private arrival at Turin is short and quiet, and the same steps simply run in reverse on the way home.

ON THE APRON
Met at the steps in Caselle
The handler's car or minibus meets the aircraft on the general aviation apron and takes you the short distance to the terminal, while the crew and handler unload the bags.
THE BORDER
Italian police in the terminal
Britain lies outside the Schengen area, so the police desk inside the general aviation building examines every passport on arrival. Anyone entering for the first time since the EU's biometric register began is photographed there, and travellers aged twelve and over also leave fingerprints.
LUGGAGE
No belt, no carousel
The bags travel from the hold through customs to your car on a trolley, and on departure from the car through security to the aircraft. Customs may open a case in the terminal, and cash of 10,000 euros or more is declared there. Ski and board bags, boot bags and golf clubs must be listed when you book, because the hold of a light jet is small and a long ski bag may simply not fit.
THE CAR
City or mountains
Your driver waits outside the terminal. The centre of Turin has a limited traffic zone, and hotels usually register the car for you; for the mountains in winter, the car should carry snow chains or winter tyres, which Italy requires on many Alpine roads.
THE LOUNGE
A drink before the flight
Most passengers barely stop, but the lounges of Esair and AviaVIP offer a seat, coffee, soft drinks and wireless internet while the aircraft is fuelled and cleared.
FOOD ON BOARD
Tajarin, vitello tonnato, gianduja
With a day's notice the handler can load a Piedmontese menu from a Turin restaurant, from vitello tonnato and fresh pasta to a box of gianduja chocolates for the flight home.
FOG
Plan a margin in winter
Category III landings keep Caselle open in most fog, but a small jet may not be certified for the lowest limits. In November, December and January we check the forecast with the operator the day before and agree an alternate.
TAX FREE
Italian VAT back at Caselle
Shoppers who live outside the EU may recover Italian VAT on bigger purchases from Via Roma or the Quadrilatero, but only after an officer at Caselle has validated the export. Keep the receipts and the goods together and warn the handler the day before.
AIRLINE ONE WAY
One direction by airline
If the private flight covers only one direction, easyJet and Ryanair link Caselle with London and other British airports, and we check the current timetable when you book.

At Turin, the passengers rarely set the limits. The weather in winter, the choice of handler and the plans for the aircraft while you stay are what we settle at the time of booking.

Five points to settle before booking Turin

Five questions decide whether a Turin quote holds, and we answer each of them in writing before you sign.

Any jet can land
With 3,300 metres of runway, Caselle takes everything from a Citation M2 to a Global or an airliner. The choice of aircraft depends on the party, the luggage and the price, not on the airport.
A PPR on every flight
Every private flight into Turin needs a PPR from SAGAT, filed at least two hours before arrival. The handler files it, and in busy weeks we ask for it as soon as the flight is confirmed.
Fog from November to January
Radiation fog over the Po plain can close smaller airports for hours. Caselle's category III system keeps it open, but the crew and aircraft must be certified for those limits too.
The mountains are close
Sestriere is about an hour and a half by road and Courmayeur a little more. With skis and a family, a larger jet with a bigger hold may be worth the difference.
Where the 1,500 kilometre line falls
Each passenger on a private charter pays 100 euros per flight from England, Wales, Jersey and Dublin, and 200 euros from Scotland and Belfast, because the Scottish and Belfast routes pass 1,500 kilometres once 95 are added.

From Caselle to the city, the Alps and the Langhe

Caselle sits on the northern edge of the city, between the ring road and the mountains, so it is well placed for both. Journey times below assume a chauffeured car setting off from the private terminal when traffic is light.

Destination From Caselle What is there
Venaria Reale About 15 to 20 minutes The royal palace of the House of Savoy and its gardens
Piazza Castello and Via Roma About 30 minutes The Royal Palace, the Egyptian Museum and the grand hotels
Lingotto About 35 to 45 minutes The former Fiat factory with its rooftop track, now a congress centre and hotel
The Allianz Stadium About 20 minutes The home of Juventus, on the north west side of the city
Superga About 40 minutes The basilica on the hill above Turin and its view of the Alps
Sestriere and Sauze d'Oulx About 1h 30m to 1h 45m The Via Lattea ski area, shared with Montgenèvre in France
Alba and Barolo About 1h to 1h 15m The truffle market, the Langhe hills and the great Nebbiolo estates
Courmayeur About 1h 30m to 1h 50m Mont Blanc, the Skyway cable car and off piste skiing
Breuil Cervinia About 1h 45m to 2h The Matterhorn and the ski link to Zermatt
Lake Maggiore, Stresa About 1h 30m The Borromean Islands and the lakeside villas

A train runs from the airport station, opposite arrivals, to Torino Porta Susa in about 30 minutes, and SAGAT puts a taxi to the city at about 40 euros, but after a private flight most passengers take a car booked by the handler. For the mountains in a hurry, a helicopter from Caselle reaches Sestriere, Courmayeur or Cervinia in about half an hour when the weather allows, and Courchevel is about 40 minutes away.

What else you pay: duty, Italian tax and the Turin hotel levy

Three public charges sit on top of the aircraft price: the British duty paid when you leave the UK, Italy's own levy on each passenger for both the outbound and return flights, and the municipal tax that Turin adds to hotel bills.

UK duty
Air Passenger Duty on the flight out of Britain, Band A, for jets of 5.7 tonnes or more
Italian passenger tax
100 euros a passenger a flight from England, Wales, Jersey and Dublin, 200 euros from Scotland and Belfast
City tax in Turin
5 euros a person a night in a five star hotel in 2026, charged for no more than seven nights a year
Airport and handling
landing, parking and handling fees are charged to the operator and built into its price

The Italian tax applies to private charters in aircraft of up to nineteen seats and is collected by the operator with the fare. Italian law takes the shortest distance between the airports, adds a fixed 95 kilometres, and sets the charge at 100 euros for each traveller when the total stays within 1,500 kilometres and at 200 euros when it goes beyond. Turin is about 920 kilometres from London, so the lower rate covers every route from England, Wales and the Channel Islands, and even Dublin, while Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast cross the line once the 95 kilometres are added, Aberdeen by a wider margin, and pay the higher rate. Positioning with an empty cabin attracts no tax at all; once you buy that sector, however, you are its passengers and the levy is due in the normal way.

For the British side, APD is charged on departure only, and Italy is in Band A. The current rate for each traveller is 32 GBP on a jet weighing from 5.7 up to 20 tonnes and 142 GBP on anything heavier; on 1 April 2027 those two rates merge into a single figure of 146.63 GBP for every private jet from 5.7 tonnes upwards. Lighter jets and flights from Jersey or Guernsey pay no APD, and flights from Scotland move to the Scottish government's own tax in April 2027.

Cuneo, Aosta and the other airports around Turin

Caselle is the right answer for most trips to Turin, but for the wine country, the Aosta valley or a lake it is worth knowing the alternatives.

Turin Caselle, LIMF. The main airport for the city and the western Alps, with 3,300 metres of runway, a category III landing system, a general aviation terminal and a choice of handlers.
Cuneo Levaldigi, LIMZ. A regional airport south of Turin with a runway of about 2,100 metres and fewer than 100,000 passengers in 2025. It is the closest airport to Alba and Barolo, well suited to light and midsize jets heading for the Langhe.
Aosta Corrado Gex, LIMW. A small airport in the Aosta valley with a runway of under 1,500 metres, surrounded by high ground. It puts Courmayeur about 40 minutes away by road and Cervinia about an hour, but only for light jets and turboprops whose crews know the approach.
Turin Aeritalia, LIMA. The old airfield 5 kilometres west of the centre, now run by the Aero Club Torino for light aircraft and helicopters. Its runways are too short for jets, and its helipad is used mainly by air ambulances.
Milan Malpensa, LIMC. About an hour and a half by road, with long runways, several business aviation handlers and a wider choice of empty legs, useful when nothing suitable is offered into Turin itself.

UK and Turin routes, with the direction each one tends to fly empty

Each fare below buys the entire aircraft, whether you fill every seat or travel alone, and each flight time runs from take off to touchdown. Turin is about 920 kilometres from London, a comfortable range for every jet in our list, from a Citation M2 on the Biggin Hill and Jersey routes to a Challenger 350 or a Praetor 600 for a larger party with skis. Italy's per passenger tax comes on top. If your dates are fixed, the ordinary charter prices in the second list above give the point of comparison.

Entering Italy at Turin: passports, customs and what to leave at home

Britain is outside both the EU and Schengen, so a private flight into Turin crosses an external border, and the Italian police and customs clear it inside the general aviation terminal.

  • Passport. A British passport is accepted in Italy only if it was issued within the previous ten years and still has three months or more to run after you leave the Schengen countries.
  • Length of stay. Holidays and business trips need no visa, but the 90 day allowance in any rolling 180 covers the whole Schengen zone, so a detour to Chamonix, Zermatt or the Côte d'Azur uses up the same days.
  • Entry/Exit System. Stamps disappeared from British passports in April 2026, when the EU's electronic border database took over; your photograph is stored on the first crossing, together with fingerprints for everyone aged twelve or more.
  • ETIAS. Brussels has postponed its planned travel authorisation again, in July 2026 to some point in 2027, with no date set; the fee announced so far is 20 euros for a permit valid three years.
  • Customs. Arriving from the UK, an adult passenger may carry duty free a litre of spirits or two of fortified or sparkling wine, 4 litres of still wine, 16 of beer, 200 cigarettes and other items to a value of 430 euros; sums of 10,000 euros or more in cash have to be declared.
  • Food. Meat and dairy products may not be brought from Britain into the EU, which matters little in a region famous for its cheeses and cured meats.
  • Back to Britain. On a private flight home each adult may bring in, free of duty, up to 18 litres of still wine, room for a case of Barolo or two, along with 42 litres of beer, 4 litres of spirits or 9 of fortified wine, 200 cigarettes and 270 GBP of other goods; from 1 October 2026 sparkling wine counts within the wine allowance and cider within the beer allowance.

Three situations in Turin, three plans

A chalet week in Sestriere
Land at Caselle in a jet with a hold large enough for skis and boots, and drive about an hour and a half to the resort. Seven days separate the drop and the collection, and the jet spends them at its base, so it flies the Alps route twice with an empty cabin, once each way.
A truffle weekend in Alba
For two or three nights in the Langhe, Cuneo is about 45 minutes from Alba and Caselle an hour or a little more. A light jet can stay with you if the handler books the parking, or leave and return, and during the fair those return legs are often on sale.
The ATP Finals week
Tennis fans and sponsors arrive together and leave on different days, and stands at Caselle fill early. Book the aircraft and the PPR as soon as the tickets are confirmed, and look for the empty sectors released around the final.

Taking a dog or a cat to Turin

Italy lets a dog or cat in from Britain once three documents are in order: proof of a readable microchip, a rabies vaccination that is at least three weeks old on the day of travel, and an animal health certificate from an official vet dated within the ten days before arrival. For British residents, an EU pet passport stopped counting in April 2026. Italian rules add no worming treatment for the way in. Give the Caselle handler notice so that the documents can be checked without delay.

Dog in the cabin of a private jet to Turin

The flight home takes more planning. Only operators approved by the British authorities may bring an animal into the UK, and a vet must worm a dog against tapeworm no less than 24 and no more than 120 hours before the jet lands. Turin vets see many travelling dogs from the ski resorts and the Langhe; book the appointment together with the flight, and mention the pet at the outset so that we search only among operators with pet approval.

Private flights to Turin: common questions

Which airport should I use for Turin?
Caselle, for the city, the western Alps and most trips to the Langhe. Cuneo suits a light jet going only to Alba or Barolo, and Aosta a small aircraft going to Courmayeur or Cervinia.
How long does the flight to Turin take?
About 1h 40m to 1h 50m from London, Farnborough, Biggin Hill, Oxford, Southampton, Bristol and Jersey, 1h 55m to 2h 10m from Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Newcastle, and 2h 20m to 2h 30m from Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast and Aberdeen.
Is Turin a good airport for large jets?
Yes. The runway of 3,300 metres takes any business jet and many airliners, so a Challenger, a Falcon or a Global is no problem at Caselle.
Can fog stop my flight?
Rarely at Caselle itself, because runway 36 has a category III landing system. The limits depend on the aircraft and crew as well, so in late autumn and winter we confirm them with the operator and agree an alternate.
How much is an empty leg to Turin?
Our lowest fares are both on a Citation M2: Turin to Biggin Hill and Turin to Jersey from around 2,900 GBP for the whole aircraft. The same eighteen routes as ordinary charters on dates of your choice cost from about 6,800 GBP to 20,700 GBP.
How much Italian tax will we pay?
100 euros per passenger per flight from England, Wales, Jersey or Dublin, and 200 euros from Scotland or Belfast.
Can we land at Turin late in the evening?
Usually. The airport is listed as open around the clock and modern jets generally qualify for the exemption from the night noise rule, but the handler must be staffed and the PPR filed, so we arrange late arrivals in advance.
Is a visa needed to visit Turin from Britain?
No. A valid British passport covers up to 90 days in any 180 for a holiday or business, and no advance permit is required for now.
And if nothing is released for my dates?
Send the week you have in mind, the number of travellers and any leeway in the dates. Turin releases sectors throughout the ski and autumn seasons, and otherwise we price a charter to Caselle, Cuneo or Aosta.

Call +44 7857 574938 , message the same number on WhatsApp , or write to flight@empty-leg.co.uk . Say when you want to fly, how many are travelling, what luggage and skis you have and where you are staying in Turin, the mountains or the Langhe. Our reply sets any suitable sectors next to a full charter price, and that one figure already includes the PPR, handling in the general aviation terminal, Italy's passenger tax and a car from the aircraft.
