Empty leg flights to and from Grenoble

Grenoble stands where the Drac meets the Isère, walled in by the Chartreuse, the Vercors and the Belledonne range. It is a university city and one of Europe's leading centres of research and chip making. Its airport is the nearest one that jets can use for Alpe d'Huez, Les Deux Alpes and the rest of the Oisans, and the big Tarentaise resorts are two to three hours away by road.

Grenoble Alpes Isère airport lies 40 kilometres northwest of the city, near the village of Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs. It opened for the 1968 Winter Olympics, and its 3,050 metre runway, far longer than those at Chambéry or Annecy, takes any business jet without special training for the crew. On winter Saturdays it fills with ski flights from Britain, and the private sectors that come and go around them are what the board below follows.

Empty legs to and from Grenoble right now

The board tracks sectors that start or finish at Grenoble Alpes Isère. If none are listed, it falls back to Chambéry, Lyon, Geneva and Annecy, the airports that serve the same valleys when Grenoble is quiet or full. Below it, a price list of the regular Grenoble routes gives the cost of chartering the same jet outright, as a yardstick for any empty leg.

This board refreshes through the day as operators release sectors, and it shows only part of the market: a large share of repositioning flights never reach a public list at all. Check back shortly, or tell us your route and dates and we will look at what operators are holding at this moment.

Sectors on this list do not touch Grenoble itself. They are shown because the fields are close enough that the drive rarely costs you more than waiting for the right sector does. Tell us which one interests you and we will confirm it is still open.

Both columns assume an aircraft already at the departure airport, so no positioning flight is billed. Where an operator has to fly one in to collect you, a charter can run considerably higher than the figure shown. Prices also run in both directions: an empty leg exists only when an operator is moving that aircraft anyway, so the sector you want may run the other way this month. Tell us the route and we will watch both directions for you.

Set up an alert for Grenoble

Most empty legs are gone within hours of being released, and a good number are never published at all. Tell us the route and the window you can travel in, and we will message you the moment a matching sector comes up between the UK and Grenoble.

Please fill in both the departure and the arrival city.

Where Grenoble sectors come from

Three kinds of traffic keep aircraft moving through Grenoble, and each leaves empty flights behind it.

The Saturday ski wave
From December to April the airport lives by the Saturday changeover, when airline and tour operator flights bring skiers in for a week in the Oisans and the Tarentaise. Private jets keep the same rhythm. Parking costs double all winter, and weekend spaces have to be reserved, so most aircraft drop their party and fly home empty the same day, then return empty a week later for the pickup.
Research and industry
Grenoble is one of Europe's leading centres for science and semiconductors, home to the CEA research laboratories, the ESRF synchrotron, STMicroelectronics at Crolles and Soitec at Bernin. Company trips from Britain and elsewhere run on weekdays and all year round, and many of them are booked one way.
Summer in the Oisans
Summer brings the cyclists, drawn by the 21 hairpins of Alpe d'Huez, where the Tour de France finished on two days running in July 2026, and by the Marmotte sportive. Walkers head for the Vercors and the Chartreuse, and Les Deux Alpes usually keeps a glacier open for skiing into early July. Jets that bring these visitors out often go home without passengers.

London to Grenoble takes about one hour forty minutes in a midsize jet, and the flight from Scotland just over two hours. The runway is long enough for anything from a Pilatus PC-12 to a long range Global, and the routes table is priced on an eight seat Citation XLS+, the size most British ski parties choose. The standard fire cover at the airport suits light, midsize and super midsize jets, and for the very largest aircraft a higher level is booked in advance.

Seasonal demand for repositioning flights

Grenoble Airport in detail

The facts a crew or a passenger should know before a private flight to Grenoble Alpes Isère, gathered in one table.

Codes and name GNB (IATA), LFLS (ICAO). Aéroport Grenoble Alpes Isère belongs to the Isère department; it was called Grenoble-Saint-Geoirs until 2003 and Grenoble-Isère until 2016.
Location At 397 metres on the Bièvre plain beside Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs, 40 kilometres northwest of Grenoble and 30 to 45 minutes from the city centre by the A48 motorway to exit 9, then 11 kilometres along the Bièvre road. Lyon and Chambéry are each about an hour away by road.
History Work on the civil airport began in 1966, and the transport minister inaugurated it on 23 January 1968, a fortnight before the Grenoble Winter Olympics. Its first runway of 2,050 metres was lengthened to 3,050 in 1974, and the airport took over from the old Grenoble-Eybens airfield, whose land went to the Olympic venues.
Runway 09/27, 3,050 by 45 metres, asphalt and grooved, with a Category I instrument landing system on runway 09 and a satellite approach to runway 27. A 900 metre grass strip alongside serves light aircraft.
Crew requirements Nothing beyond the usual. Chambéry and Annecy require local training for approaches in poor weather, Chambéry after dark as well. Grenoble asks for none, which also makes it the favourite diversion when either of them cannot take a flight.
Hours In recent seasons 07:00 to 21:00 from Monday to Saturday and 08:00 to 21:00 on Sundays and public holidays, with later opening available for a fee. The business terminal's reception currently lists daytime hours ending at 18:00, so we confirm the times for your date when booking.
Winter bookings In winter, prior permission, a slot and a parking place are requested in advance through the handler, and February fills first; a flight that arrives without notice pays double for handling. Weekend parking, from Friday evening to Monday morning, is reserved ahead and charged in full if cancelled less than 48 hours before.
Aircraft services Jet fuel and aviation petrol, de-icing, ground power, air start, water and toilet service. Fire cover is level 5 as standard and level 7 on request.
Operator Since 1 July 2026 the airport has been run by Edeis, which won a twelve year contract from the Isère department and took over from VINCI Airports after seventeen years. Its plan includes 11.9 million euros of investment and a new area in the terminal.
Traffic About a quarter of a million passengers a year, most of them between December and April; 2024 closed at about 245,700, and business aviation adds more than 2,000 movements each winter. Airline flights from Britain and Guernsey are run by British Airways, easyJet, Jet2, Ryanair, Wizz Air and Aurigny, while general aviation, including the national civil aviation school ENAC, makes up about nine movements in ten.

In short, Grenoble is the least demanding airport in the French Alps for a crew and one of the busiest on a winter Saturday. Book the slot and the parking as soon as the dates are fixed, and treat the closing time as the only firm limit on the day.

Where private passengers are handled at Grenoble

Private flights at Grenoble have a building of their own at the airport entrance, so passengers never need to set foot in the airline terminal.

The business aviation terminal
Redesigned and opened as a new terminal in November 2016, it covers about 400 square metres over two floors. Passengers have their own lounges and a play area for children, crews a separate lounge, and a meeting room can be hired. Passport and customs checks take place in the building, VAT refund forms are validated on request, and long stay parking is close by, with a restaurant within easy reach.
Edeis and the ExecuJet network
Since July 2026 the terminal has been staffed by Edeis, whose airports are partners of ExecuJet, the Luxaviation group's network of business aviation terminals. Meet and greet, concierge help and quick formalities are offered on request, crews have a room for rest and flight planning with refreshments and wifi, and in winter seasonal reception and passenger flow agents join the team at weekends.
Arranged before you land
The terminal arranges catering, ground transport and concierge requests such as hotels, and its own vehicles carry passengers and bags between the building and the aircraft. Everything is ordered in advance through the handler, and we pass the requests on when we book the flight.
The main terminal
The airline terminal, whose new arrivals area opened at the end of 2023 and handles up to 600 arriving passengers an hour, has Le Séquoia restaurant, a café, a duty free store, a Relay newsagent, a shop of local produce made within 30 kilometres of the airport, free wifi and a self service tax refund kiosk. On winter Saturdays it is packed with ski charter passengers, which is the best reason to use the business terminal instead.
Helicopter companies
Mont Blanc Hélicoptères keeps a Grenoble base at Le Versoud, and SAF Hélicoptères flies from the Alpe d'Huez altiport, where its base is open from 09:00 to 17:30 in winter. Héli Sécurité, Alpes Hélicoptères and Jet Systems also quote transfers from the airport, and we time the helicopter to the landing so that the change from jet to rotor takes minutes.

On a weekday the passage from the aircraft steps to the car takes a matter of minutes, and even on a winter Saturday the business terminal stays calm while the airline building fills up.

The terminal from a passenger's side

What a private arrival at Grenoble looks like, step by step, and what to know for the flight home.

LANDING
From the steps to the lounge
The jet stops on the business aviation apron, where the handler meets it and brings you and your bags to the terminal at the airport entrance. There are no gates or buses, and no reason to go near the main building.
PASSPORTS
The border in the same building
Grenoble is an external Schengen border, and French police check passports inside the business terminal. On a first crossing since the Entry/Exit System began, British travellers usually give a facial image and, from the age of twelve, fingerprints; after that the check is quick.
THE LOUNGE
Coffee, wifi and a meeting table
Passengers wait in a lounge of their own, and a meeting room can be hired for a working stop. Coffee and wifi are on hand, and catering and ground transport are arranged on demand through the terminal team.
CHILDREN
A corner to play in
The terminal has a play area for children, which helps while the bags are loaded or a helicopter is on its way. Child seats for the car or the helicopter should be requested with the booking.
CHECK IN
Minutes, not hours
Airline passengers at Grenoble are told to arrive two and a half hours before departure, while the airport's business aviation pages have long spoken of checking in 15 minutes ahead. Allow for the drive down from the resort, and tell us if you are running late so that the crew and the handler can adjust within the airport's hours.
SKIS AND BAGS
From the hold to the kerb
There is no airline counter or conveyor belt. On arrival, ski bags, boot bags and cases come out of the hold and ride with you in the terminal's own vehicle to the door, where your car is waiting, and on departure the same happens in reverse. Tell us how many cases and ski bags to expect, since the crew plans the load in advance; a light helicopter takes only a handful of cases, so skis usually follow by road.
SATURDAYS
Calm beside the crowds
On winter Saturdays thousands of airline passengers pass through the main terminal, while the business terminal keeps its own entrance, with parking close by, and takes on extra staff for the weekend. Weekend fees are higher, and the slot is the thing to secure early.
THE HELICOPTER
Oisans in 25 minutes
Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes are about 25 minutes away by helicopter, Val Thorens about half an hour, and Courchevel or Méribel 30 to 40 minutes. Prices start at around 2,200 euros one way to the Oisans, and flights of half an hour to the Tarentaise are quoted at roughly 2,600 to 3,750 euros depending on the helicopter.
BY ROAD
The A48 and the 21 hairpins
A car reaches Alpe d'Huez in about 1h 40m to 2 hours, via Grenoble, Vizille and Le Bourg-d'Oisans, then up the 21 bends of the final climb. Winter tyres or chains are compulsory in the mountain areas of Isère from 1 November to 31 March, and on a snowy Saturday the last climb is where the time goes.
VAT REFUND
French VAT back on the way out
Visitors who live in Britain can reclaim French VAT once they spend more than 100 euros in one shop, or with one retailer in the same town, within three days. The shop issues an electronic form, which is validated before departure, and the business terminal can arrange it on request; keep the goods in the cabin, not the hold.
CATERING
A taste of the Isère
Catering is ordered through the terminal in advance. A tart made with Grenoble walnuts or a bottle of Chartreuse from the cellars in Voiron, about 25 minutes from the runway, makes a good end to a trip, though Saint-Marcellin and other cheeses cannot be taken into Britain.
EARLY STARTS
Frost on the wings
On a cold morning the jet may need de-icing before departure, which adds time and can cost anything from several hundred euros to a few thousand. Allow for it when planning a first flight home after a snowy night.
LATE FINISHES
After nine in the evening
Movements end at 21:00, earlier than many people expect. Staying open later is possible at an hourly charge, which is lower when requested a week in advance, so tell us early if dinner in the resort is likely to run late.
PETS
Checked with the passports
A dog or cat arriving from Britain has its papers checked at Grenoble along with its owners. The helicopter companies set their own limits on animals, so larger dogs usually travel up by car.
BY AIRLINE
If only one way is empty
When an empty leg covers only one direction, the other can be flown by airline: in winter British Airways flies from Gatwick, easyJet from Gatwick, Luton and several regional airports, and Jet2, which already flies from Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle and Stansted, adds Gatwick from 13 December 2026.

The only moments that need planning are the slot on a Saturday and the closing time in the evening. Everything between the aircraft door and the car is quick.

Four rules that shape a Grenoble trip

Any jet, any crew
With 3,050 metres of runway, an instrument landing system and no local training requirement, Grenoble takes operators from all over Europe. That widens the choice of empty legs, and it is why flights turned away by Chambéry or Annecy so often end up here.
Weekends cost extra
From 12 December 2026 to 10 April 2027, landing fees carry a surcharge on Saturdays and Sunday mornings and parking costs double, and in the latest published business aviation tariff handling cost half as much again at weekends and on public holidays. A midweek arrival avoids the weekend extras, though not the winter parking rate.
Parking is booked, not assumed
Weekend parking, from Friday night to Monday morning, has to be reserved, and a late cancellation is charged in full. Many operators therefore send the jet straight home after the drop, which is exactly how the Saturday empty legs appear.
The day ends at 21:00
The airport closes at nine in the evening, and helicopters to the resorts need daylight, which in midwinter fades around five. Land by early afternoon if the last stretch is by air, and ask for an extension in advance if the flight home is late.

None of these rules is unusual for a busy ski airport, but together they explain why prices and availability change so much between a Saturday in February and a Tuesday in March.

Private jet on the apron before departure

What the ground costs at Grenoble

Grenoble publishes its business aviation fees, so the ground part of the bill can be worked out before the flight.

On the invoice
Landing by weight, handling of about 680 euros for a Citation XLS+ in the tariff valid to November 2026, a terminal charge of about 36 euros per passenger on flights to Britain, and parking by the tonne and the hour after a free first hour
De-icing
Roughly 800 to 2,800 euros for a midsize or super midsize jet, depending on its wingspan and the treatment needed
Solidarity tax
420 euros per passenger on a jet flying home from France, 210 on a turboprop

The French solidarity tax is the largest ground item for most parties. Since March 2025 it has been due for every passenger on a charter flight leaving France, crew and children under two aside, so five passengers flying home in a jet pay 2,100 euros on top of the fare. Leaving from the Swiss side of Geneva avoids it, but from Grenoble that means a drive of about two hours. Britain, for its part, levies Air Passenger Duty only when the jet leaves a UK airport.

Chalets and hotels add the local taxe de séjour to each night's bill, while the helicopter, a late opening or a round of de-icing appear as lines of their own. We set all of them out beside the flight price, so the saving on an empty leg is measured against the whole trip.

Chambéry, Lyon, Geneva and the airfields around Grenoble

Grenoble is the natural jet airport for the Oisans, but it shares the region with several others, and each has its own strengths.

Chambéry, CMF. About an hour from Grenoble airport by road and closer to the Tarentaise resorts. Its 2,020 metre runway needs local training for night or low cloud approaches, and winter weekend arrivals are capped, so Grenoble takes much of its overflow.
Lyon, LYS and Bron. Lyon Saint-Exupéry is under an hour from Grenoble airport and has flights and empty legs all year, while Lyon Bron, on the east side of the city, handles business aviation. From either, Alpe d'Huez is about two hours or a little more by road.
Geneva, GVA. The largest choice of flights in the region, about two hours from Grenoble by road. It suits a trip that combines the northern Alps with the Isère, and flights home from its Swiss side carry no French solidarity tax.
Annecy, NCY. A smaller airport near the lake, around 1h 30m from Grenoble and handy for Megève and the Aravis resorts. Crews need a local briefing to fly there, and practical training before an approach in low cloud or poor visibility.
Grenoble Le Versoud, LFLG. A busy light aviation field on the eastern edge of the Grenoble conurbation, in the Grésivaudan valley, with runways under a kilometre long. Flying clubs, mountain rescue and Mont Blanc Hélicoptères use it, and it serves as a helicopter pickup point rather than a jet airport.
Alpe d'Huez altiport, AHZ. At about 1,840 metres on the edge of the resort, with a runway of under 500 metres open only to pilots holding a mountain rating or a site authorisation. Helicopters and a few light aircraft use it, and the helicopter from Grenoble airport lands here in about 25 minutes.

From Grenoble airport to the resorts

The table gives normal winter weekday times from the airport by road and by helicopter. On a Saturday in February, add an hour or more to the road times for the busier valleys.

Destination By road By helicopter Notes
Grenoble city centre 30 to 45 minutes Not needed By the A48 motorway
Villard-de-Lans About 1h 15m On request The Vercors plateau, for family and cross country skiing
Chamrousse About 1h 30m On request The nearest large resort to the city
Alpe d'Huez 1h 40m to 2 hours About 25 minutes Altiport at the edge of the resort; 21 hairpins by road
Les Deux Alpes 1h 30m to 1h 55m About 25 minutes Glacier skiing into early summer
Serre Chevalier 2h 30m to 3 hours On request Over the Col du Lautaret, which can close in heavy snow
Courchevel and Méribel 2 hours to 2h 30m 30 to 40 minutes Through Moûtiers; Chambéry is closer when it has slots
Val Thorens About 2h 30m About 30 minutes The highest resort of the Trois Vallées
Val d'Isère and Tignes 2h 30m to 3 hours About 40 minutes The far end of the Tarentaise

For the Oisans, the helicopter turns a two hour drive into a flight of under half an hour, but only in daylight and reasonable weather. A car is always held in reserve, and skis and large cases travel by van so that they reach the chalet whatever the sky does.

Car transfer from the private jet terminal

Popular routes between the UK and Grenoble, and which way they run empty

These are typical asking prices for single empty sectors, and each one pays for the full cabin. A charter of the same jet on dates you choose usually runs to about two and a half times the empty leg price, as the list under the board shows. Times are airborne only, so allow roughly thirty minutes more at each end for taxiing and formalities.

Route In the air Empty leg from Season Which way it usually runs empty
London to Grenoble 1h 40m 5,300 GBP December to April Both ways, around the Saturday changeovers
Jersey to Grenoble 1h 35m 5,000 GBP Ski season Out empty to collect a family at the end of its week
Grenoble to Southampton 1h 35m 5,000 GBP Ski season Home empty after a Saturday drop
Guernsey to Grenoble 1h 35m 5,000 GBP February and Easter Occasional, out empty to fetch a party
Grenoble to Oxford 1h 40m 5,300 GBP December to April Home empty after delivering skiers
Birmingham to Grenoble 1h 45m 5,500 GBP School holidays Out empty at the end of half term
Grenoble to Bristol 1h 45m 5,500 GBP Ski season Home without passengers after a Saturday drop
Cardiff to Grenoble 1h 50m 5,800 GBP February Out empty to bring a party home
Grenoble to Manchester 1h 55m 6,100 GBP December to April Home empty after a chalet drop
Liverpool to Grenoble 1h 55m 6,100 GBP Ski season Out empty for the Saturday pickup
Grenoble to Leeds 2h 00m 6,300 GBP Ski season Home empty once the group is delivered
Newcastle to Grenoble 2h 05m 6,600 GBP Christmas and February Out empty to collect a group
Grenoble to Isle of Man 2h 05m 6,600 GBP Winter A few a season, home after a drop
Dublin to Grenoble 2h 10m 6,800 GBP Christmas and Easter Out empty to fetch Irish skiers
Grenoble to Belfast 2h 15m 7,100 GBP Ski season Home empty after a drop
Edinburgh to Grenoble 2h 15m 7,100 GBP February Out empty at the end of the Scottish break
Grenoble to Glasgow 2h 20m 7,400 GBP February and Easter Home empty once Scottish families are delivered
Aberdeen to Grenoble 2h 25m 7,600 GBP Winter Occasional, out empty for a pickup

Grenoble's Saturday pattern produces pairs of empty sectors: a jet flies a family out on the first Saturday and goes home empty, then returns empty a week later to collect them. Weekday sectors are fewer, but they come with quieter slots and lower fees, and business travel to Grenoble keeps a trickle of them going outside the ski season.

Arriving in Grenoble from the UK

Grenoble is a Schengen border airport, so passengers from Britain go through French passport control and customs in the business terminal on arrival.

  • Passport. On the day you land, a British passport needs to be under ten years old, and it must still have three months of life left after your last day in the Schengen area. Time in France is added to any other Schengen days in the past six months, and the total may not pass 90 in any 180.
  • Entry/Exit System. Since 12 October 2025 France has recorded travellers from outside the EU and Schengen, Britain included, in the EU's digital border system, which fully replaced passport stamping in April 2026. At peak times France may still pause the biometric step; otherwise the first crossing takes a photograph and, for travellers aged twelve or over, fingerprints, and later crossings reuse the record.
  • ETIAS. The EU's travel authorisation has not started and has no launch date yet, with recent press reports pointing to 2027. The fee is set at 20 euros, waived for anyone under 18 or over 70, and an approval will stay valid for three years unless the passport expires sooner.
  • Customs on arrival. Arriving by air from outside the EU, travellers aged 15 and over may bring in goods worth 430 euros free of duty and younger children up to 150 euros, alongside the usual alcohol and tobacco limits. A declaration is needed for cash of 10,000 euros upwards, and French customs turn away British meat and milk products, down to a ham roll packed for the flight.
  • Prior notice. Private flights between Britain and France send the French border police a list of passengers and crew ahead of the flight. The handler files it, and we simply need a copy of each passport when booking.
  • Flying home. Each adult landing in Britain from a private flight may bring 4 litres of spirits, enough for a few bottles of Chartreuse, with 18 litres of still wine, 42 litres of beer, 200 cigarettes and 270 GBP of other goods. From 1 October 2026, bottles of champagne and other sparkling wine are counted against the wine figure. Cheese, Saint-Marcellin included, and meat or dairy products from cattle, sheep, goats or pigs may not be brought into Great Britain.
  • Taxes. Three in all: British Air Passenger Duty when you leave the UK, the French solidarity tax when you leave France, and a nightly tourist tax in Grenoble or the resort.

The busiest month. British half term falls in mid February, and the French holidays run from 6 February in zone C to 8 March in zone B, with Grenoble and Lyon on their break from 13 February to 1 March. Weekend slots and parking go first.
March
BusyGood
The French holidays end early in the month, the snow is often at its best and Tomorrowland Winter returns to Alpe d'Huez from 20 to 27 March 2027. Easter falls on 28 March, which brings a final family peak.
April
FairGood
The Easter holidays run into April, and the high Oisans resorts keep skiing into the second half of the month. Jets fly out empty for the last chalet pickups of the season.
May
QuietThin
Between seasons. The resorts close, and traffic falls back to business trips to Grenoble's research campus and industry.
June
SteadyFair
Les Deux Alpes opens its glacier for summer skiing, and the first cyclists arrive on the Oisans passes. The Marmotte sportive, 177 kilometres with about 5,000 metres of climbing and a finish at Alpe d'Huez, is expected in June.
July
SteadyFair
The height of the cycling season, with riders from Britain on the 21 hairpins; the Tour de France finished at Alpe d'Huez on 24 and 25 July 2026. Walkers fill the Vercors and the Chartreuse.
August
SteadyFair
The French holiday month. Families head for the lakes and the high resorts, and in the second half of the month the Festival Berlioz fills La Côte-Saint-André, a few kilometres from the runway, with orchestral music. Many of the jets that deliver these visitors fly back to Britain with nobody on board.
September
SteadyFair
Business travel returns, and in mid September the Coupe Icare, the largest free flight festival in the world, fills the sky above the Grésivaudan valley with paragliders.
October
QuietThin
Conferences and company visits keep weekday traffic going, and the first bookings for Christmas and February arrive.
November
QuietThin
Les Deux Alpes plans a first opening on 28 November 2026, and chalet owners start to travel. Sectors remain rare.
December
Very busyStrong
Alpe d'Huez, Chamrousse and Serre Chevalier are due to open on 5 December 2026. Christmas opens the peak season: aircraft head south loaded before the holiday and come back with empty cabins.

Empty sectors are most plentiful on February Saturdays and in the week around Christmas. For quieter pistes and easier slots, choose mid January or late March, keeping Tomorrowland week in mind at Alpe d'Huez.

Three situations, three answers

A chalet week in the Oisans
Book the Grenoble slot and parking as soon as the dates are fixed, land by early afternoon and take the helicopter to Alpe d'Huez or Les Deux Alpes, with the skis following by van. Other jets bringing families in that same day usually leave with no one aboard, so we quote those sectors next to the full charter.
Meetings in Grenoble
Fly in on a weekday morning, and the car reaches the Presqu'île science district in about 40 minutes and Crolles in under an hour. Weekday fees are lower than at weekends, and a same day return is simple as long as the flight leaves before nine in the evening.
When Chambéry is full
For Courchevel, Méribel or Val Thorens on a winter weekend, Grenoble is the usual fallback. The drive takes 2 hours to 2h 30m, or 30 to 40 minutes by helicopter, and a jet that has to stay can be parked if the space is booked ahead.

Flying to Grenoble with a dog or a cat

Pets travelling from Britain need a microchip, a rabies vaccination given at least 21 days before travel and an animal health certificate issued by an official vet within ten days of arrival; an EU pet passport issued to someone living in Britain no longer counts. At Grenoble the documents are checked on arrival alongside the passports, so an animal on board must be declared when the flight is booked.

dog in the cabin of a private jet

Going home, Great Britain admits dogs, cats and ferrets only on an approved route and carrier, and dogs need tapeworm treatment from a vet 24 to 120 hours before arrival. Grenoble has plenty of vets, but in February their diaries fill with ski visitors, so book the appointment with the flight, and tell us about the animal early so that we only offer operators that carry pets.

Questions about flying private to Grenoble

Is the runway long enough for any business jet?
Yes. The 3,050 metre runway with an instrument landing system takes every business jet, and crews need no special training, unlike at Chambéry or Annecy. Only the very largest aircraft need extra fire cover booked ahead.
How far is Grenoble airport from the city?
About 40 kilometres northwest, 30 to 45 minutes by car along the A48. Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes are 1h 30m to 2 hours away by road.
Is there a lounge for private passengers?
Yes. The business aviation terminal, redesigned on two floors in 2016, has passenger lounges, a play area for children, a crew lounge and a meeting room to hire, with passport and customs checks in the same building.
What is the flying time from Britain?
About one hour forty minutes from London, around two hours from Manchester or Leeds and a little over two from Edinburgh or Glasgow. France is an hour ahead of the UK.
Is Grenoble or Chambéry better for a ski trip?
Grenoble for the Oisans, Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes, and as the fallback on busy weekends; Chambéry for the Tarentaise when it has a slot. The helicopter narrows the gap: 30 to 40 minutes from Grenoble to Courchevel against 20 to 25 from Chambéry.
What does the helicopter to Alpe d'Huez cost?
Transfer guides quote from about 2,200 euros one way, for a flight of around 25 minutes. For the half hour hop to Courchevel or Val Thorens, budget from about 2,600 euros in a single engine helicopter to 3,750 in a twin engine one.
Can the airport stay open late for us?
Yes, at an hourly charge that is lower when requested more than a week ahead. Without an extension, the last movement is at 21:00.
Is there a tax on the flight home?
Yes: 420 euros per passenger in a jet and 210 in a turboprop, charged by France on every charter departure. Departing from the Swiss sector of Geneva instead means it is not due.
And if nothing is released for my dates?
Tell us where and when, and how much the dates can move. We watch Grenoble and the nearby airports and write as soon as a matching sector is released, usually a few days to a week before the weekend changeovers.
