Empty leg flights to and from Ibiza

Ibiza has one airport, seven kilometres south west of Ibiza Town, and from May to October it is among the busiest private aviation destinations in Europe. It handled 9.1 million passengers and 85,086 aircraft movements in 2025, Britain was its largest foreign market, and business aviation accounted for 14,383 movements in 2023, the latest year in the European Business Aviation Association's profile of the airport. In summer every private jet needs a slot, and in the peak weeks there are not enough parking stands to keep the aircraft on the island.

That shortage is what fills the market with empty legs. A jet that drops a family for a villa week usually cannot wait, so it flies home or to Palma, Valencia or Barcelona with nobody on board and comes back a week later to collect them.

Empty legs to and from Ibiza right now

The board below shows the sectors our operator network has released into or out of Ibiza. When the island itself has little on offer, flights into Palma, Menorca and Valencia are listed underneath, because a short hop or a helicopter connects each of them with Ibiza.

Also moving across the rest of the Balearics and Valencia

Sectors on this list do not touch Ibiza itself. They are shown because the fields are close enough that the drive rarely costs you more than waiting for the right sector does. Tell us which one interests you and we will confirm it is still open.

Both columns assume an aircraft already at the departure airport, so no positioning flight is billed. Where an operator has to fly one in to collect you, a charter can run considerably higher than the figure shown. Prices also run in both directions: an empty leg exists only when an operator is moving that aircraft anyway, so the sector you want may run the other way this month. Tell us the route and we will watch both directions for you.

Set up an alert for Ibiza

Most empty legs are gone within hours of being released, and a good number are never published at all. Tell us the route and the window you can travel in, and we will message you the moment a matching sector comes up between the UK and Ibiza.

Please fill in both the departure and the arrival city.

Nothing is stored on this site. The button opens a chat with the message already written, and you send it yourself. We reply during office hours, 07:00 to 23:00, and check messages outside them too.

Where Ibiza sectors come from

Three patterns send aircraft to Ibiza and back without passengers, and all of them are strongest between May and October.

No room to wait
In summer the stands are full, and larger jets may be given only about three hours on the ground before they must leave. An aircraft that has dropped its passengers flies on, usually to its base or to Palma, Valencia or Barcelona, and comes back for the return. Each round trip of that kind is two sectors with empty seats.
Villa weeks and weekends
Villa rentals in high season usually change over on a Saturday or Sunday, and weekend visitors fly in on Thursday or Friday and out on Sunday or Monday. The flights in between run the other way with nobody on board: into Ibiza empty to collect at the end of a stay, and out again empty after a drop.
Club openings and closings
The clubs open their seasons in late April and May and close them from mid September into October, and those weekends bring a rush of short stays. Light and midsize jets are the aircraft of choice, led by the Citation XLS, the Phenom 300 and the Citation CJ2, the three most used types at Ibiza in 2023.

The European Business Aviation Association's figures for 2023 show where the traffic comes from. The largest share of business aviation movements at Ibiza linked it with the rest of Spain, followed by France, Italy and the UK, and the busiest single links were with Palma, Barcelona and Nice. Half of all movements were light jets, and the peak came in the week of 10 to 16 July. The trend is still upward: the environmental group GOB counted 8,127 private jet flights at Ibiza from January to August 2026, close to its figure of 8,441 for the whole of 2025. That regional traffic is also why the board higher up lists sectors from Palma, Menorca and Valencia when Ibiza itself has few.

Seasonal demand for repositioning flights

Ibiza Airport in detail

What shapes a private flight into Ibiza, from the summer slot system and the opening hours to the size of the apron and the rules for parking.

Codes IBZ (IATA), LEIB (ICAO)
Location In the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia, seven kilometres south west of Ibiza Town and a few minutes from Playa d'en Bossa and Ses Salines. Elevation 7 metres. Run by Aena, the Spanish airport operator
Runway A single runway, 06/24, 2,800 by 45 metres, with instrument landings. Long enough for any business jet and for airliners
Hours Open 24 hours through the summer season and until 31 October. From 1 November until the summer season returns in late March it is open from 07:30 to midnight local time (06:30 to 23:00 UTC), and can stay open an hour longer on prior request
Slots In the summer season, from late March to late October, every private jet movement needs an airport slot, requested through the handler no more than about 15 days ahead. In winter the airport is not slot coordinated, but a private flight still needs the airport's authorisation at least three hours in advance
Parking The taxiways to the general aviation apron take aircraft with a wingspan of up to 18 metres, which covers a Phenom 300, a Citation XLS or a Hawker 900XP. From 1 May to 15 October, a larger aircraft staying more than three hours needs its stand authorised by the airport before the slot can be requested, and big jets are often limited to about three hours on the ground and have to drop and go
Customs and border control Customs and the border police are available for the airport's full opening hours and clear private passengers inside the general aviation terminal, with the handler giving them your arrival time in advance. The Guardia Civil checks luggage on arrivals and departures, and British passport holders are registered in the Entry/Exit System on their first entry, with a record that lasts three years
Handling Compulsory for private aircraft. The handler needs the schedule, the aircraft details and the passenger list, ideally 48 hours ahead
Traffic 9.1 million passengers and 85,086 aircraft movements in 2025, with Britain the largest international market at 1.87 million passengers. Business aviation recorded 14,383 movements in 2023, 14th in Europe on figures from the European Business Aviation Association, and its traffic tracker counted 13,365 movements from January to September 2025, 7% more than a year earlier
Fuel Jet A-1 and Avgas 100LL, available whenever the airport is open. Crews often refuel on arrival so that the departure is not held up
When Ibiza is full Aircraft that cannot stay fly home or wait at Palma, Valencia, Barcelona or Alicante, all within an hour's flight, although those airports have summer parking limits of their own

The private terminal and its handlers

Private passengers normally use the general aviation terminal in the technical block, with its own entrance, lounges and customs. Aena licenses two FBOs there: AviaVIP, of the Aviapartner group, and Sky Valet, now controlled by Luxaviation, the owner of ExecuJet. Several other handlers work there too. The operator of your aircraft chooses one, and if you have a preference we will pass it on.

AviaVIP
Part of the Aviapartner group and one of the two FBOs licensed in the general aviation terminal. It has two VIP lounges with more than 500 square metres between them, new in 2018 and redesigned for the 2024 season, a private meeting room, and crew lounges with showers and two snooze rooms.
ExecuJet and Sky Valet
Two handlers under common ownership. Sky Valet, which holds one of the two FBO licences, won Aena's tender for the business aviation terminal in 2017 and reopened it after renovation in autumn 2018; in 2024 it came under the control of Luxaviation, which also owns ExecuJet, and the airport still lists the two as separate handlers. ExecuJet's VIP lounge offers internet, daily newspapers and refreshments, catering is available on demand, and the desk books cars and hotels for passengers and crews.
Jetex
Works from the Sky Valet building in the technical block, with an executive lounge, meeting rooms, showers, a crew lounge and a concierge, and parks the aircraft it handles on the apron in front of the building.
Ibizair
A local handler, part of the Stellair group since 2025, whose team claims more than 30 years of experience in private aviation, with 52 staff handling some 6,700 operations a year. Its VIP lounges have an open bar, private areas, television, wifi and meeting rooms, and it arranges catering and concierge requests.
General Aviation Service
A Spanish handler with ten bases, Ibiza and Palma among them, offering meet and assist, fuel, catering, hotel bookings and crew transport, coordinated from an operations centre that runs around the clock.

The terminal from a passenger's side

The private terminal at Ibiza is built for speed rather than for lingering. On a summer Saturday dozens of aircraft pass through it, and the handlers keep people moving between car and aircraft in a few minutes.

ARRIVING
Not the main terminal
Tell your driver you are flying from the general aviation terminal in the technical block, not from the main departures hall; it has its own entrance. Give the name of your handler too. In July and August the roads round the airport are busy, so leave a margin from Ibiza Town or the north of the island.
CHECK IN
Names instead of boarding cards
There is no check in counter and no boarding card. The handler already has your names and passport details from the passenger list, meets you at the door and takes you through passport control and customs in the same building.
BAGGAGE
From the car to the hold
The handler's staff take the bags from your car to the aircraft and, on arrival, from the hold to the car, so there is no carousel. A week in a villa means more luggage than a business trip, so tell us how many cases are coming, and any golf bags or kitesurfing gear, when you first get in touch. The Guardia Civil may inspect luggage in the terminal, arriving or leaving.
FORMALITIES
Passport control on site
Customs and the border police clear private passengers inside the terminal, and the handler gives them your arrival time, late evenings included. On the first entry under the Entry/Exit System each British passenger has a photograph taken, plus fingerprints from the age of 12; the record lasts three years, and later crossings may repeat a face or fingerprint check.
TO THE AIRCRAFT
A short drive across the apron
The handler's staff drive you between the building and the aircraft in a vehicle authorised for the apron, as the airport's rules require, so your own car stays outside. In summer the jets on a quick turn often stand on the apron in front of the building.
WAITING
A lounge for the wait
Most handlers have lounges of their own: AviaVIP's two cover more than 500 square metres, Ibizair's come with an open bar and television, and wifi, newspapers and a meeting room are the norm. Passengers usually spend only minutes there, since the aircraft is usually ready before they are.
FOOD AND DRINK
Drinks in the lounge, meals to order
Do not count on a restaurant in the private terminal. The lounges serve drinks and light refreshments, and a proper meal, for the lounge or for the flight, is ordered through the handler from an island caterer used to villa and yacht work. Mediterranean salads, fruit and fish are easy to arrange with a day of notice.
CONCIERGE
Cars, hotels and timing
The handlers' concierge desks book chauffeured cars and hotel rooms and can coordinate with your driver or yacht crew, which helps when a transfer or a tender has to fit around a slot.
BY SEA
Formentera and the yachts
Formentera has no airport. The ferry from Ibiza port to La Savina takes about 30 minutes and leaves every 45 minutes in summer, and a private water taxi costs roughly 400 to 500 euros each way for up to five people. Yachts at Marina Ibiza and Marina Botafoch are fifteen to twenty minutes from the airport by car.
BY AIR
Helicopters to the islands
Helicopter operators board passengers at the airport itself, with Palma about 30 to 40 minutes away and Valencia about 40 to 50. Formentera has no civil heliport. A helicopter can land there only at a private site approved in advance, after a flight of 15 to 20 minutes, so the boat is still the usual way across.
TAX FREE
Reclaiming Spanish VAT
Spain sets no minimum spend for visitors who live outside the EU, including residents of Great Britain but not of Northern Ireland, and the forms are validated electronically at DIVA points in ports and airports. Ask your handler before the day how validation works at the private terminal.
ISLAND TAX
The Balearic tourist tax
Hotels and holiday rentals add the Balearic tourist tax per person and per night. In a five star hotel in summer it is 4 euros plus VAT, and guests under 16 do not pay it.

Going home, most passengers reach the terminal a quarter of an hour or so before the slot, and that is usually plenty. The time that matters more is the slot itself: an aircraft that misses it has to request a new one, and in August the next free slot may be hours away.

Four rules that shape an Ibiza trip

Ibiza is easy to fly into and hard to park at, and four rules decide how every summer trip is planned.

Slot first
From late March to late October no private jet lands or leaves without a slot, and requests open only about 15 days ahead, so the times are settled early and a change of plan on the day depends on what is still free.
Drop and go
Parking is the tightest resource on the island. Aircraft with a wingspan over 18 metres cannot reach the general aviation apron, and in summer the larger ones may be allowed only about three hours on the ground, so the aircraft leaves after dropping you and returns for the flight home.
Handler compulsory
Every private flight uses a handler, who books the slot, asks for the stand, arranges customs and fuel, and needs the passenger list in advance. The operator appoints one, so all we need from you is names and passport details.
Summer and winter hours
The airport runs around the clock until the end of October, then from 07:30 to midnight local time until late March. A flight that would land after midnight in winter needs the extra hour requested in advance.

For empty leg passengers the parking rules are the good news. Every jet that has to leave the island after a drop, and every one that comes back to fetch its party, is a flight that will happen anyway, so from May to October sectors appear in both directions on most days.

Empty leg prices from UK airports

What the ground costs, and why there is no departure tax

Spain charges no tax on passengers flying out by private jet, which makes the flight home from Ibiza cheaper than the same flight from a French airport.

0 EUR
Spanish departure tax on a private passenger. Proposals for one have been debated but not passed
Handling
compulsory at Ibiza and included in the price we quote
Slots and parking
part of the airport charges, and the reason a short stay costs less than a long one
UK duty
Air Passenger Duty on the flight out of Britain in aircraft of 5.7 tonnes or more, with every private jet of that weight on the higher rate from April 2027

A party of four flying home from Nice or Cannes pays 1,680 euros of French solidarity tax in a jet. The same party leaving Ibiza pays no Spanish passenger tax, only Aena's regulated airport charges, which are already built into the operator's price. Spanish politicians have argued for a tax on private flights, but none had been passed by September 2026, and if one is introduced it will appear on our quotes as a separate line.

The larger saving on an Ibiza trip is the positioning. A villa week by charter often pays for four flights, out and back at the start and out and back at the end, because the aircraft cannot wait on the island. An empty leg is one of those flights, sold at a fraction of the price because the operator is flying it anyway.

Palma, Valencia and the other fields nearby

When Ibiza is full, or the plan includes other islands, these are the airports that come into play.

Palma de Mallorca, PMI. About 30 to 40 minutes by helicopter or by jet. The largest airport in the Balearics, with a busy business aviation apron, but in high summer it can also limit visiting aircraft to three hours on the ground.
Son Bonet, LESB. A small airfield on the edge of Palma for turboprops and light aircraft, with no customs, so it suits an aircraft waiting between Spanish sectors rather than a flight to or from Britain.
Menorca, MAH. The quietest of the three Balearic airports and about an hour by helicopter from Ibiza, with its own summer slots and parking limits.
Valencia, VLC. About 40 to 50 minutes by helicopter and a little less by jet. Often used by aircraft waiting between a drop and a collection, although overnight parking there can also be refused in the peak weeks.
Barcelona and Alicante. Large mainland airports within an hour of Ibiza. Alicante normally accepts longer stays, while Barcelona has applied a 96 hour limit to visiting aircraft.
Formentera. No airport and no civil heliport for passenger flights. Reached by ferry or water taxi from Ibiza port in about half an hour.

From the aircraft to the villa, the port or the beach

Ibiza is small, and nowhere on it is much more than forty minutes from the airport. Times below are by road outside the busiest hours, which in August means early morning or late evening.

Destination By car By sea or air Notes
Playa d'en Bossa 10 min None needed The beach clubs and hotels closest to the airport
Ses Salines 10 to 15 min None needed The salt flats, the natural park and its beach
Ibiza Town and Dalt Vila 15 min None needed The old town, the port and the ferry terminal
Marina Ibiza and Marina Botafoch 15 to 20 min None needed Berths up to 95 metres at Marina Ibiza and about 30 metres at Botafoch; the largest yachts use IGY Ibiza Marina in the old port
Cala Jondal and Es Cubells 20 to 25 min None needed Villas and beach clubs on the south west coast
Sant Antoni 20 to 25 min None needed The west coast and its sunset bars
Santa Eulària 20 to 25 min None needed The east coast, quieter and family friendly
Sant Joan and the north 30 to 40 min None needed Country villas and the north coast coves
Formentera, La Savina 15 min to Ibiza port About 30 min by ferry Or a private water taxi from the port
Palma de Mallorca None 30 to 40 min by helicopter Helicopters board at Ibiza airport

The drive is rarely the problem on Ibiza; the timing is. A late afternoon arrival on an August Friday meets the traffic heading for the beach clubs and the sunset, and a morning slot gets you to the villa in half the time.

Empty legs compared with jet sharing

Popular routes between the UK and Ibiza, and which way they run empty

Ibiza is about two to three hours from most UK airports, far enough to favour midsize jets for groups but within the range of a light jet for a smaller party. The figures are floor prices for the whole aircraft flying a repositioning sector, excluding passenger duty; to compare, the price table further up quotes the same aircraft chartered for dates you choose.

Route Flight time Empty leg from Peak Which direction runs empty
Jersey to Ibiza 2h 00m 6,300 GBP June to September Back to Jersey after a villa drop, out again at the end of the week

Ibiza to Leeds 2h 40m 8,600 GBP July and August Back to Leeds Bradford after villa drops
Isle of Man to Ibiza 2h 40m 8,600 GBP July and August Both, and only a handful each summer
Ibiza to Newcastle 2h 45m 8,900 GBP July and August Home to Newcastle after the school holiday drops
Edinburgh to Ibiza 2h 50m 9,200 GBP Late July and early August Out to Ibiza empty to collect families before the Scottish schools go back
Ibiza to Belfast 2h 50m 9,200 GBP July and August Towards Belfast after drops, the other way at the end of a stay
Glasgow to Ibiza 2h 55m 9,400 GBP Late June and July Both, busiest when the Scottish schools break up in late June
Ibiza to Aberdeen 3h 05m 10,000 GBP July Occasional in both directions, so registering is the way to catch one

Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays and Mondays are the days to watch from June to September. Aircraft that bring guests in for the weekend head home empty the same day, and the ones that come to collect them on Sunday often fly out from Britain with nobody on board.

Arriving in Ibiza from the UK

Spain is in both the EU and the Schengen area, so a flight from Britain to Ibiza is an international arrival with passport control and customs.

  • Passport. On entering Spain a British passport should be no more than ten years old and still valid three months after your planned date of departure. A stay in the Schengen area is limited to 90 days in any 180.
  • The Entry/Exit System. British visitors are registered with a photograph and, from the age of 12, fingerprints on the first crossing. The system has been required at every Schengen border since April 2026; Spain carries out the checks in full at its airports, and passports are no longer stamped there.
  • ETIAS. Not in operation yet. The EU expects to launch it in the last quarter of 2026, at 20 euros for three years or until the passport expires.
  • Customs. Each adult arriving by air may bring 200 cigarettes, one litre of spirits, sixteen litres of beer and four litres of still wine without paying duty, plus other goods up to 430 euros. Cash of 10,000 euros or more must be declared, and meat, milk and dairy products from Britain are not allowed in.
  • Luggage checks. The Guardia Civil may inspect bags on arrival and departure, including at the private terminal.
  • The flight home. Each adult landing in Great Britain may bring 42 litres of beer, 18 litres of still wine and 4 litres of spirits, and other goods up to 270 GBP when arriving by private aircraft, but no meat or dairy products from the EU. Northern Ireland, Jersey and Guernsey apply their own rules. Passengers without a British or Irish passport may need a UK electronic travel authorisation.
  • Taxes. Air Passenger Duty on the way out of Britain, nothing Spanish on the way back, and the Balearic tourist tax on each night in a hotel or registered holiday rental, halved from the ninth night of a stay.

Empty leg calendar for Ibiza, month by month

Ibiza has two seasons: a long summer when demand, slots and parking all come under pressure, and a short winter when the island is quiet and private flights are few.

Demand
How much traffic the island's season pulls in, and its effect on charter rates, slots and apron space.
Empty legs
How regularly a repositioning flight links Ibiza with Britain, and the typical discount against charter.

January
QuietThin
The island is at its quietest, with shorter airport hours and few private flights. Villa owners fly in for short stays, and sectors are rare.
February
QuietThin
Almond blossom in the countryside and very little traffic. A good month for a weekend without the crowds, but empty legs are scarce.
March
SteadyFair
Villas and hotels start to reopen and owners come back to prepare for the season. The first repositioning flights of the year appear.
April
SteadyGood
Easter and the first warm weekends, with the clubs opening from the end of the month. Aircraft fly in empty to collect and out empty after drops.
May
BusyStrong
The opening parties and the start of the villa season. Plenty of sectors in both directions and prices below the summer peak.
June
Very busyGood
Long days, weddings and villa weeks. Parking tightens, and more aircraft leave the island after every drop.
July
Very busyGood
Scottish families are already away, and English schools break up in the second half of the month. Aircraft arrive full and leave empty, especially at weekends.
August
Very busyFair
The peak of the year, when charter prices are highest and the slots go first. Empty legs exist, but they sell quickly.
September
BusyStrong
Families go home, couples and groups arrive, and the closing parties begin. Sectors run in both directions at prices below August.
October
SteadyStrong
The last closing parties, and the airport's winter hours from 1 November. Aircraft that spent the summer in the Mediterranean head home.
November
QuietFair
Shorter winter hours are in place, and the big clubs and many hotels have closed. What little does come up tends to be priced to sell.
December
QuietThin
Christmas in the villas brings a small wave of owners and families, with little else moving.

May, September and October give the best value, with plenty of sectors and prices below the summer peak. August is the month to book a charter early and treat any empty leg as a bonus.

Three situations, three answers

A villa week for the family
Fly on a Thursday or a Monday if you can, rather than on a changeover Saturday, and choose an aircraft with a wingspan of 18 metres or less so that it can use the general aviation apron. Tell us the luggage count at the start, because a week of summer clothes fills a light jet quickly.
A weekend for the opening parties
Book the slots as soon as they open, about 15 days ahead, and give the handler your arrival time early so that customs are ready for you. On Sunday and Monday, jets that have just dropped arriving villa guests fly back to Britain empty, and one of those can be your way home.
Joining a yacht or crossing to Formentera
Land at Ibiza, and a car takes you to Marina Ibiza or Marina Botafoch in fifteen to twenty minutes, where a tender or a water taxi takes over. For Formentera the ferry from Ibiza port takes half an hour, and a private boat can meet you at the quay.

Flying to Ibiza with a dog or a cat

Spain lets a dog or cat in from Britain once it is microchipped, has had its rabies jab at least three weeks earlier and carries an animal health certificate that an official vet signed within the ten days before arrival. Owners living in Britain can no longer travel on an EU pet passport; that ended on 22 April 2026. Spain treats some breeds as potentially dangerous, including pit bull terriers, Rottweilers, Staffordshire bull terriers, American Staffordshire terriers, Dogos Argentinos, Fila Brasileiros, Tosa Inus and Akita Inus, and they must be muzzled and on a lead in public.

The return to Britain is the part to plan first. Only an operator approved to carry pets into Great Britain on that route can fly the animal home, and every dog needs a vet's tapeworm treatment between 24 and 120 hours before landing. Ibiza has vets used to travelling pets, but in summer appointments go early, so book one with the flight. Let us know about the animal in your first message, and we will leave out any sector whose operator cannot take it.

Ibiza by private jet: frequent questions

Can I land at Ibiza at night?
Until the end of October, yes: the airport is open 24 hours, and the handler arranges customs for a late arrival from Britain in advance. From November to late March it is open from 07:30 to midnight local time, with an extra hour available on prior request.
Do I need a slot for a private flight to Ibiza?
In the summer season, from late March to late October, yes, for every arrival and departure. Slot requests open about 15 days ahead, and the handler or the operator books them for you. In winter the airport only needs to authorise the flight, at least three hours in advance.
Why does the aircraft leave Ibiza after dropping me?
Because there are not enough stands in summer. Larger jets may be allowed only about three hours on the ground, so the aircraft flies home or to another airport and returns for the flight back, and those flights are where empty legs come from.
How do I get from Ibiza to Formentera?
By boat. Formentera has no airport and no civil heliport for passenger flights, and the ferry from Ibiza port to La Savina takes about 30 minutes. A private water taxi can be booked for the crossing.
Is there a tax on a private flight from Ibiza?
Not in Spain. A flight home from Ibiza carries no Spanish passenger tax, unlike a departure from a French airport. The outbound leg from Britain carries UK Air Passenger Duty when the aircraft weighs 5.7 tonnes or more.
How much is a private jet from London to Ibiza?
Booked for your own dates, a Hawker 900XP from London costs from about 17,900 GBP one way, and a Phenom 300 from Farnborough about 12,700 GBP. On an empty leg, those two jets begin at roughly 7,500 GBP and 5,300 GBP for the entire cabin, excluding passenger duty.
