Empty leg flights to and from Geneva

Geneva is where private banking, diplomacy, the watch industry and the Alps meet, and its airport sits on the French border four kilometres from the city centre. Business aviation has a building of its own there, Terminal 3, about two kilometres from the main terminal, and in 2025 private and business flights made up almost a quarter of all aircraft movements. From the steps of a jet you can be at a desk in the banking district within a quarter of an hour, or on the slopes at Chamonix the same afternoon.

The same mix sets the rhythm of the empty legs. Winter brings the ski traffic, with jets arriving full on changeover weekends and leaving again with nobody aboard, and the rest of the year runs on midweek business trips between London and Geneva, which leave repositioning flights behind them in both directions.

Empty legs to and from Geneva right now

The board below shows the sectors our operator network has released into or out of Geneva. When Geneva itself has little on it, sectors into Sion, Chambéry and Annecy follow underneath, because in the ski season any of them can put you in the same resort.

Both columns assume an aircraft already at the departure airport, so no positioning flight is billed. Where an operator has to fly one in to collect you, a charter can run considerably higher than the figure shown. Prices also run in both directions: an empty leg exists only when an operator is moving that aircraft anyway, so the sector you want may run the other way this month. Tell us the route and we will watch both directions for you.

Set up an alert for Geneva

Most empty legs are gone within hours of being released, and a good number are never published at all. Tell us the route and the window you can travel in, and we will message you the moment a matching sector comes up between the UK and Geneva.

Please fill in both the departure and the arrival city.

Nothing is stored on this site. The button opens a chat with the message already written, and you send it yourself. We reply during office hours, 07:00 to 23:00, and check messages outside them too.

Where Geneva sectors come from

Geneva produces repositioning flights in three different ways, and each of them peaks at a different time of year.

The ski changeover
From mid December to Easter the chalet week runs from Saturday to Saturday, and on those days Geneva fills with jets bringing one group in and taking another home. Stands are scarce, so an aircraft that has dropped its passengers often leaves again soon afterwards with nobody aboard, and one arriving to collect a party has often flown out empty as well. Saturdays create most of those sectors, and Sunday to Wednesday, when fewer people are flying, is when they are easiest to buy.
Banks, traders and the UN
Private banks, commodity trading houses and the United Nations keep the airport busy on weekdays all year. Some of that traffic is a day return from London and some a two day trip, and aircraft based in Geneva fly to Britain empty to collect their passengers, then come back empty after dropping them off.
Watches, auctions and home bases
Watches and Wonders fills the city for a week each spring, and the watch and jewellery auctions in May and November bring collectors in for a few days. Many turboprops and light jets are based at Geneva or call there every week: the Pilatus PC-12, the Phenom 300 and the Pilatus PC-24 are among the types seen most often, and aircraft of that size leave plenty of empty sectors on UK routes.

Seasonal demand for repositioning flights

Geneva Airport in detail

The practical facts that decide whether an aircraft, a crew and a timetable will work at Geneva, in one table.

Codes GVA (IATA), LSGG (ICAO)
Location Cointrin, four kilometres north west of the city centre, with the airport boundary running along the French border. Elevation 430 metres. Business aviation uses Terminal 3, at Chemin des Papillons 20, about two kilometres from Terminal 1
Runway A single concrete runway, 04/22, 3,900 by 50 metres and the longest in Switzerland. It takes every business jet flying and the largest airliners
Operating hours Departures are banned from midnight to 06:00 and arrivals from midnight to 05:00. Between 22:00 and midnight, and for arrivals between 05:00 and 06:00, a movement is allowed only under conditions tied to how much noise the aircraft makes. The handlers at Terminal 3 work from 06:00 to 22:00, and Signature, for one, offers a call out service beyond those hours
Prior permission Every general and business aviation flight needs prior permission, which the handler requests for the operator. Parking for longer than three hours needs the airport's approval as well, and from mid December to the end of April stands are in short supply, above all at weekends
Customs and border control Swiss customs and the border police clear passengers at Terminal 3, and some handlers can also call on French customs, which helps when the chalet is in France. A flight from Britain crosses a Schengen border, so each British passenger is registered in the Entry/Exit System on a first visit
French sector The airport also has a French sector, reached by road from the Pays de Gex and used by scheduled flights. Private flights are handled on the Swiss side at Terminal 3
Traffic In 2025 the airport handled 177,288 aircraft movements and 17.85 million passengers. Business aviation accounted for 40,773 of those movements, 23% of the total, on the airport's own figures. In the European Business Aviation Association's ranking for 2023, Geneva came third in Europe, behind Paris Le Bourget and Nice
Fuel and services Jet A-1 and Avgas, treatment of aircraft against ice and snow through the winter, and hangars and maintenance on the field. Passengers may stay on board during refuelling only when it has been coordinated with the fire brigade
Weather In winter low cloud and fog can settle over the lake basin, and snow means ice treatment for the aircraft and slower mornings. The usual diversions are Lyon, Basel and Zurich

Terminal 3 and its four handlers

Terminal 3 stands apart from the main building and its queues, and four handlers look after private flights at Geneva, each with its own lounges and staff. The operator appoints one when it plans the flight, so if you have a preference, tell us and we will pass it on.

Signature
TAG Aviation ran this base for more than fifty years before Signature bought it in 2020. Three private passenger lounges, two crew rest areas and a conference room for eight, with Swiss and French customs on site. It is open from 06:00 to 22:00 with a call out service beyond that, arranges SIXT hire cars and also runs the FBO at Sion.
Jet Aviation
Jet Aviation has been at Geneva since 1969 and renovated its FBO in early 2025. Three executive lounges, a conference room, a crew lounge with a snooze room, and showers for passengers and crews. Customs and immigration are on site, the ramp team handles anything up to a Boeing 747, and the lounge can print a newspaper on demand from more than 2,200 titles. Open from 06:00 to 22:00.
Dassault Aviation Business Services
Dassault's own FBO works from two terminals, C3 on Chemin des Papillons and C2 in Meyrin, so it can look after aircraft on both the north and the south aprons. Executive lounges, a crew lounge with a kitchenette, and Swiss and French customs and immigration on site. Next door, the Dassault maintenance centre, known as TAG Maintenance Services until 2022, has hangar space for up to 18 aircraft. Open from 06:00 to 22:00.
Swissport Executive Aviation
The executive aviation arm of Swissport. Its PrivatPort brand began at Geneva in 2003 as a joint venture with PrivatAir, and from its office on Chemin des Papillons it looks after private aircraft and their passengers from the stand to the car.

The terminal from a passenger's side

Terminal 3 is small by airport standards and built around a short walk between the car and the aircraft. What changes most is the season: a February Saturday and a Tuesday in June feel like two different airports.

ARRIVING
Terminal 3, not Terminal 1
Navigation apps and taxi drivers tend to head for the main terminal, so give your driver the address, Chemin des Papillons 20, and the name of your handler. There is a set down point at the entrance and only a little parking, which has to be requested in advance. Anyone meeting you by public transport should get off at Blandonnet, on tram lines 14 and 18 and bus lines 23, 28, 54 and 57.
WELCOME
Part of the handling
Being met, passport control, the lounge and the drive across the apron are normally part of what the handler does for the flight, so there is no separate VIP service to book. A chauffeur is also best booked through the handler, who will have your name before you land.
ON THE APRON
Escorted to the steps
The handler takes you and your bags between the lounge and the aircraft, and on arrival the bags go straight to your car. A car driving onto the apron to meet the aircraft is not something to assume at Geneva: if it matters, raise it at booking so the handler can say whether it can be arranged.
BAGGAGE
From the car to the hold
There is no counter to queue at: the handler takes the bags from your car to the aircraft, and any security check the flight needs is done inside the terminal. What limits skis is usually their length and the size of the hold door rather than the space inside, so send us the length of the ski bags, or a photo, when you first get in touch, and we will match the aircraft to them. If the last stretch is by helicopter, the skis usually go by road.
FORMALITIES
Swiss rules, and French ones too
Swiss customs and the border police are in the building. British passengers are registered in the Entry/Exit System on a first visit, and anyone heading straight to a chalet in Chamonix or Megève can ask for French customs through the handlers that offer it.
WAITING
Lounges and a shower
Jet Aviation and Signature each have three passenger lounges. Jet Aviation also offers wifi and showers, and a shower makes sense of a last morning on the slopes before an afternoon flight home.
MEETINGS
A meeting without leaving the airport
Jet Aviation has a conference room and Signature one for eight people, so a meeting with a Geneva banker or lawyer can take place at the airport, between landing and taking off again. On a day trip from London that saves the drive into town and back.
ON BOARD
Dinner from a Geneva restaurant
Your handler orders the catering and has it loaded before you reach the steps. Specialist caterers at the airport usually ask for 12 to 48 hours' notice, a few accept orders at shorter notice, and some will collect dishes from a Geneva restaurant and bring them to the aircraft. Lake perch, Gruyère and Swiss chocolate are the local choices.
CONCIERGE
Hotels, cars and chauffeurs
The handlers book hotels, chauffeurs and hire cars. A car hired in Switzerland comes with the motorway vignette already paid, and from 1 November to 31 March cars in the French mountain districts, the ski resorts included, must have winter tyres with the mountain snowflake mark or carry chains or snow socks.
BY AIR
Helicopters to the resorts
Helicopters leave from the airport itself, and SwiftCopters, based there since 1996, is equipped to fly on instruments, which helps when the cloud is low. Chamonix is about 20 minutes away, Gstaad about 25, Verbier 25 to 40 and Zermatt 30 to 50, with private flights to Verbier from about 1,800 CHF and to Courchevel from about 2,800 CHF. Most operators take one soft bag of 10 to 15 kg per person and no ski bags.
WINTER
Time to clear the ice
On a cold morning the aircraft may need ice cleared from its wings before it leaves, and on a busy ski Saturday that can mean waiting in turn. The crew builds it into the departure time, so arrive when they ask rather than at the last minute.
TAX FREE
Reclaiming Swiss VAT
Visitors who live abroad can reclaim Swiss VAT, charged at 8.1%, on a single purchase of more than 300 CHF, provided the goods leave Switzerland within 30 days. The refund desks are in the main terminal, so tell your handler about the forms before the day and ask how they will be validated at Terminal 3.

Twenty minutes at Terminal 3 before a departure is normally plenty, with more on a winter weekend. The clock that matters at Geneva is the one striking 22:00: a flight that leaves later has conditions to meet, and after midnight it cannot leave at all.

Booking an empty leg flight online

Four rules that shape a Geneva trip

Geneva takes any aircraft, but it is a crowded airport with houses close to the runway, and four rules decide what is possible.

Permission first
No private flight lands at Geneva without prior permission, requested by the handler, and in the ski season the popular weekend times go early. A charter for a February Saturday is best booked weeks ahead, while an empty leg is a flight the operator has already planned, permission included.
The 22:00 line
Departures after 22:00 are allowed only when the aircraft meets the noise conditions, and none leave between midnight and 06:00. Arrivals stop at midnight and resume at 05:00. A dinner in Geneva followed by a flight home works; a meeting that overruns late into the evening can turn it into a morning departure.
Stands in the ski season
Parking for longer than three hours needs approval, and from mid December to the end of April stands are scarce. Aircraft that bring passengers in for a ski week usually fly on to wait elsewhere or go home, and those flights are the backbone of the winter empty leg market.
Winter weather
Fog, low cloud and snow are part of a Geneva winter. The airport copes with most of it, but clearing ice from the aircraft adds time, and on a bad day a flight may be sent to Lyon, Basel or Zurich, with a car for the rest of the way.

For an empty leg passenger the ski season rules are the good news. Aircraft cannot linger at Geneva on a Saturday, so the flights they make to get out of the way are real, frequent and priced to sell, and they run towards Britain as well as away from it.

Empty leg prices from UK airports

What the ground costs, and why there is no departure tax

Geneva is a busy international airport and its charges reflect that, but Switzerland adds no tax on passengers leaving by private jet, which sets it apart from the French airports around it.

0 CHF
Swiss departure tax on a private flight. A levy was part of the climate law that voters rejected in 2021
Handling
arranged for every business flight by one of the four handlers, which also obtains the permission to land
Noise class
shapes part of the airport charges, so a quieter aircraft costs less to bring in
UK duty
Air Passenger Duty on the way out of Britain in aircraft of 5.7 tonnes or more, and Scotland's own tax from April 2027

The French solidarity tax, charged on flights leaving France, does not apply at Geneva, because private flights use the Swiss side. That matters for a party heading home from the French Alps: four passengers leaving Chambéry or Annecy for Britain in a jet pay 420 euros each, 1,680 euros between them, or half that in a turboprop, and the same four leaving Geneva pay nothing. A popular initiative launched in 2026 proposes a Swiss levy on flights once more, and if one is ever introduced it will appear as its own line in our quotes.

An empty leg removes the two costs that make a ski week expensive by charter: the flights the aircraft makes with nobody aboard, out at the start and back at the end, and the days it spends waiting in between. The operator makes those flights whether or not anyone buys the seats.

Sion, Chambéry and the other fields nearby

Geneva is the obvious gateway to the western Alps, but not always the closest one. For some resorts, and on some Saturdays, one of these fields does the job better.

Sion, SIR. In the Rhône valley, about 45 minutes by road from Verbier and less from Crans-Montana. The runway is 2,000 metres long and customs are available while the airport is open, but it keeps daytime hours only, handling is compulsory for visiting aircraft over three tonnes and crews need a qualification for the instrument approach. Signature is one of its handlers.
Chambéry, CMF. A French gateway to the Trois Vallées, Val d'Isère and Tignes, with a runway of about 2,000 metres. In winter it opens every day from 07:30 to 21:00, and on peak weekends slots and prior permission are needed. As a French airport it charges the solidarity tax on the flight home.
Annecy, NCY. Forty to fifty minutes south of Geneva, with a runway of 1,630 metres that suits turboprops, light jets and many midsize jets. Useful for Megève, La Clusaz and Lake Annecy, and far less crowded than Geneva on a winter Saturday. French tax applies on departure.
Saanen, for Gstaad. A 1,400 metre runway a few minutes from Gstaad, open in the daytime and used mainly by turboprops such as the PC-12. Most jets land at Geneva or Sion and finish the trip by car or helicopter.
Courchevel altiport. A 537 metre strip at 2,008 metres with a gradient of more than 18%, used by helicopters and by small turboprops whose pilots have been trained for it. It is normally reached by a short hop from Geneva or Chambéry.
Lyon and Zurich. Large airports an hour and a half and three hours away by road, where aircraft that cannot stay at Geneva often wait out a ski week, and where flights go when Geneva is closed by weather.

From the aircraft to the lake and the mountains

The airport is on the edge of the city, so the banks and the lake are minutes away, and the motorways towards the French and Swiss Alps start next to it. Road times assume normal traffic, and the helicopter column shows where flying the last stretch is worth it.

Destination By car By helicopter Notes
The city centre and the lake 10 to 15 min None needed The banks, the hotels on the Quai du Mont-Blanc and the Old Town
The Palais des Nations About 10 min None needed The UN district lies between the airport and the lake
Lausanne 40 to 50 min None needed Along the north shore of the lake on the A1
Annecy 40 to 50 min None needed Across the French border, for the lake and Talloires
Chamonix 1h 05m to 1h 20m About 20 min Up the Arve valley, slow on winter Saturdays
Megève About 1h 10m 20 to 30 min Also the way to Combloux and Saint-Gervais
Verbier About 2h 25 to 40 min Sion is closer for a turboprop or a light jet
Gstaad About 2h About 25 min Or fly on to Saanen in a turboprop
Zermatt About 3h to Täsch, then the train 30 to 50 min The village is closed to ordinary cars, so the road ends at Täsch
Courchevel 2h 15m to 3h 30 to 45 min Add an hour or more on a February Saturday
Val d'Isère 2h 45m to 3h 15m 40 to 50 min Chambéry is nearer by road

Winter Saturdays change the mountain figures in the table. Traffic towards the Tarentaise resorts can add 60 to 90 minutes on a February changeover day, which is exactly when a helicopter from the airport, or a flight into Chambéry or Sion instead, earns its cost.

Empty legs compared with jet sharing

Popular routes between the UK and Geneva, and which way they run empty

Geneva is within about two and a half hours of most UK airports with business jet traffic, so light and midsize jets cover most of the list. Each figure is a starting price for the whole aircraft on a repositioning flight, before passenger duty, and the price table higher up shows the same aircraft booked as an ordinary charter.

Route Flight time Empty leg from Peak Which direction runs empty
Jersey to Geneva 1h 30m 4,700 GBP December to April Back to Jersey after a ski drop, out to Geneva at the end of the week
Geneva to Southampton 1h 30m 4,700 GBP December to April Towards Southampton on changeover Saturdays
Farnborough to Geneva 1h 30m 6,200 GBP All year Both, with business trips midweek and ski groups at weekends
Geneva to Guernsey 1h 35m 5,000 GBP December to March Both, and seldom, so register rather than wait
Geneva to Oxford 1h 35m 5,000 GBP All year Home to Oxford after midweek business drops
London to Geneva 1h 35m 5,300 GBP All year, busiest December to April Both, several times a week, and most days in the ski season
Geneva to Birmingham 1h 40m 4,000 GBP December to April Towards Birmingham once families have been dropped
Bristol to Geneva 1h 45m 3,900 GBP February and Easter Out to Geneva empty to collect at the end of half term
Manchester to Geneva 1h 50m 5,800 GBP December to April Both, with business traffic midweek all year
Geneva to Liverpool 1h 50m 5,800 GBP January to March Home empty after a drop, out empty to collect
Cardiff to Geneva 1h 50m 4,000 GBP February Rare in either direction, so leave your details
Geneva to Leeds 1h 55m 6,100 GBP December to April Back to Leeds Bradford after Saturday drops
Isle of Man to Geneva 2h 00m 6,300 GBP January to March Both, and only a handful each season
Geneva to Edinburgh 2h 05m 6,600 GBP December to April Back to Edinburgh after drops, busiest in the February break
Newcastle to Geneva 2h 05m 6,600 GBP February and Easter Out to Geneva empty to collect families at the end of a week
Geneva to Belfast 2h 05m 6,600 GBP December to April Towards Belfast after ski drops, the other way a week later
Glasgow to Geneva 2h 10m 6,800 GBP January to April Both, busier around the Scottish school holidays
Geneva to Aberdeen 2h 20m 7,400 GBP January to March Occasional in both directions, so registering is the way to catch one

Saturdays in January, February and March are when these routes are busiest. The jet that brings a family from London to Geneva in the morning is often on its way home empty before lunch, and the one arriving to collect the family leaving that day may have flown out with nobody aboard.

Arriving in Geneva from the UK

Switzerland is outside the EU but inside the Schengen area, so a flight from Britain crosses a Schengen border, while customs follow Swiss rules rather than the EU's.

  • Passport validity. The Schengen rules apply in Switzerland too. A British passport is accepted if it was issued less than ten years before you enter and does not expire until at least three months after your planned exit, and a stay is limited to 90 days in any 180.
  • The Entry/Exit System. Switzerland uses it in the same way as the EU countries. Fingerprints and a photograph are taken at your first crossing, passports are no longer stamped, and on later trips the check is quicker.
  • ETIAS. Switzerland will require the travel authorisation too, once the system starts, which has not happened yet. It is set to cost 20 euros and last three years.
  • Swiss allowances. Goods worth up to 150 CHF per person per day come in free of Swiss VAT, and above that VAT is due on the whole amount. Travellers aged 17 or over may also bring 5 litres of drinks up to 18% alcohol, 1 litre above that, and 250 cigarettes or 250 grams of other tobacco without duty.
  • Meat and dairy. From Britain, meat, milk and dairy products may not be brought into Switzerland at all, apart from sealed infant milk, so finish the catering on board rather than carrying it off.
  • Cash. Switzerland has no automatic cash declaration, but if customs ask about cash of 10,000 CHF or more, you are obliged to answer truthfully.
  • The return. Each adult arriving in Britain may bring 4 litres of spirits, 18 litres of still wine and 42 litres of beer without duty. Anyone travelling without a British or Irish passport should check whether they need a UK electronic travel authorisation or a visa, and the operator files the passenger list with UK border control ahead of the flight.
  • Tax on each leg. Air Passenger Duty applies to the flight out of Britain in any aircraft of 5.7 tonnes or more, nothing is added on the Swiss side coming home, and our quotes show both legs on separate lines.

Empty leg calendar for Geneva, month by month

Geneva has two seasons that matter for empty legs: the ski months, when sectors are plentiful but charter demand is at its height, and the business months, when the traffic is steadier and spread through the week.

Demand
How strongly skiing, business and events are pulling aircraft into Geneva, and what that does to charter prices and stands.
Empty legs
How often a sector between Geneva and Britain appears, and how good the price tends to be.

January
Very busyGood
The ski season in full swing, with the first changeover Saturdays of the new year. Stands are hard to get at weekends, which is why aircraft leave empty so quickly, and Sunday to Wednesday is the time to look.
February
Very busyGood
Half term in England and Wales and the Scottish February break put the ski traffic from Britain at its peak. Book a charter well ahead; empty legs appear on the Saturdays themselves and on the days just after.
March
BusyStrong
Spring skiing, longer days and fewer families. Aircraft that have spent the winter flying to the Alps are still on the route, and with fewer groups travelling, their sectors are easier to buy.
April
BusyGood
The ski season winds down after Easter, and Watches and Wonders fills the city from 5 to 11 April 2027. Charter demand jumps that week, and the days after the trade days end are good for a sector home.
May
SteadyGood
The World Health Assembly and other UN meetings, the spring watch and jewellery auctions and the first weekends on the lake. Business traffic leads, and sectors run both ways midweek.
June
SteadyFair
A working month, with the lake at its best and the mountains opening for summer. Traffic is steady rather than heavy, and there are fewer empty legs than in winter.
July
BusyFair
The Montreux Jazz Festival and summer on Lake Geneva bring visitors in, while many aircraft based here head south for the Riviera and the islands. Sectors to Britain thin out as the traffic turns towards the Mediterranean.
August
QuietFair
The Swiss national day on 1 August and the European holidays leave the banks and the UN quiet. A calm month for a trip, with a handful of sectors and little competition for them.
September
SteadyStrong
Business returns, Geneva Watch Days brings collectors in early in the month, and aircraft fly back north from their summer bases. Sectors between Geneva and Britain pick up in both directions.
October
SteadyGood
A full business calendar and the autumn half term, with the first snow on the peaks. A settled month for midweek travel at sensible prices.
November
SteadyGood
The autumn auctions bring collectors back, and late in the month the first resorts open. Operators position aircraft for the winter, and some of those flights come onto the market.
December
Very busyThin
The ski season opens, and from the middle of the month stands are scarce. Christmas and New Year are among the hardest weeks of the year to book, so plan a charter early and treat any empty leg as a bonus.

For value, the best months are March, September and November, and in the ski season the best days are Sunday to Wednesday. For certainty, book the February half term and the Christmas weeks as charters early in the autumn.

Three situations, three answers

A ski week in Verbier
Fly to Geneva if the group is large or the aircraft is a midsize jet, then drive for two hours or take a helicopter for 25 to 40 minutes. A turboprop or a light jet can land at Sion instead, about 45 minutes from the slopes. Travel on the Sunday rather than the Saturday if you can: the aircraft that flew the Saturday runs are looking for work, and the roads are quieter.
A day of meetings in Geneva
Leave London in the morning, spend the day with the bank or the lawyers, and take off again before 22:00. If the aircraft waits for you all day, the handler asks the airport for the parking; if stands are tight it may fly away and come back, which adds positioning to the price. Midweek empty legs on this route appear often enough that a one way sector can sometimes replace one half of the trip.
Watches and Wonders week
Hotels, stands and handlers fill up for the trade days from 5 to 8 April 2027. Book the charter in January, name Signature or Jet Aviation if you have a preference, and look for sectors home in the days after the trade days close.

Flying to Geneva with a dog or a cat

A dog or cat flying from Britain to Geneva needs a microchip, a rabies vaccination given at least 21 days before travel and an animal health certificate from an Official Veterinarian, issued no more than ten days before the flight. Switzerland follows the EU rules on pets, and customs check the animal on arrival. The canton of Geneva bans a list of breeds, among them pit bulls, Rottweilers, American Staffordshire terriers, Cane Corsos, several mastiff breeds and the Tosa, together with their crosses, and Valais, the canton of Verbier and Zermatt, keeps a list of its own, so check with us first if your dog is on either. Switzerland also keeps out dogs with docked tails or cropped ears, although owners living abroad can bring one for a holiday against a deposit paid to customs.

On the way home the order of things matters. Only an operator approved for carrying pets into Great Britain can take the animal home, and a dog's tapeworm dose has to be given by a vet one to five days before landing, so the vet in Geneva or in the resort is booked together with the flight. Tell us about the animal at the outset and we will only offer sectors that can take it.

Questions about flying private to Geneva

Geneva or Sion for Verbier?
Sion is closer, about 45 minutes from Verbier against two hours from Geneva, but it keeps daytime hours, needs specially qualified crews and suits turboprops and light jets best. Geneva takes any aircraft, with noise conditions after 22:00, and a helicopter from there reaches Verbier in 25 to 40 minutes.
Can I land at Geneva late at night?
Until midnight, yes, although between 22:00 and midnight a flight has to meet noise conditions. Arrivals stop from midnight until 05:00 and departures from midnight until 06:00, so a flight that would land after midnight waits until the morning.
Is there a tax on a private flight from Geneva?
Not on the Swiss side. Switzerland charges no departure tax on private flights, so the flight home from Geneva carries none, unlike a departure from Chambéry or Annecy, where the French solidarity tax applies. The flight out of Britain pays Air Passenger Duty unless the aircraft weighs less than 5.7 tonnes, as a PC-12 does.
Can I clear French customs at Geneva?
Yes, through some of the handlers. Dassault and Signature both offer Swiss and French customs at Terminal 3, which is useful if you are staying in Chamonix, Megève or another French resort and have goods to declare there.
When are empty legs between London and Geneva easiest to find?
In the ski season, on and just after the changeover weekends, and in both directions. Outside the winter, midweek sectors appear regularly, with extra ones around Watches and Wonders in April and the autumn auctions in November. Most are released only one to three days before they fly, so registering the route works better than checking now and then.
How much is a private jet from London to Geneva?
Booked as a charter on your dates, London to Geneva costs from about 12,600 GBP one way in a Citation Latitude, or about 14,800 GBP from Farnborough in a Challenger 350. Empty legs start at roughly 5,300 GBP for the Latitude and 6,200 GBP for the Challenger, for the whole aircraft and before passenger taxes.
