About Empty Leg UK

Empty Leg UK is a private aviation broker based in the business aviation area of London Luton Airport, the busiest private jet field in the country. We do one thing more than anything else: we find the repositioning sectors that operators need to fill, and we put British travellers on them at a fraction of the cost of a standard charter.

Scheduled aviation works to a timetable and a network. Business aviation does not, and that is the whole point of it. An aircraft goes where you need it, when you need it, from a terminal you walk through in fifteen minutes. Our job is to make that affordable more often than people assume it can be, which is why empty legs sit at the centre of what we do rather than being an afterthought on a price list.

How we work with you

The process is deliberately short. Most of our clients are booking around a fixed commitment at one end, so speed matters more than paperwork.

STEP 1

Options within the hour

You tell us the route and the window. We come back inside 30 to 50 minutes with three to five aircraft at different price points, including any empty leg that fits.

STEP 2

We narrow it down

If nothing in the first set works, we keep looking with your corrections. Our network covers about 6,000 business jets, so there is usually another way to do it.

STEP 3

Contract and confirmation

We issue the contract naming the operator and the aircraft, take payment, and handle slots, handling and crew briefing from there.

STEP 4

Paperwork for your accounts

Contract, itemised invoice and flight confirmation, prepared to satisfy a UK finance department without follow up questions.

STEP 5

Everything around the flight

Transfers at either end, hotels, catering from a named restaurant, security. Ask at the enquiry stage and it is arranged before you travel.

What we arrange

Twenty years ago a private aircraft was a curiosity. Today it is a working tool, and the reasons our clients use one are more ordinary than the cliché suggests.

Business travel. Board meetings, site visits and negotiations where the schedule cannot bend around an airline timetable.

Group and corporate movements. A whole team to one place at one time, which is where a private aircraft stops being expensive.

Holidays and second homes. The Alps in winter, the Mediterranean in summer, and the empty legs that run against both.

Sports teams and clubs. Squads, staff and kit to fixtures and training camps on one aircraft.

Events and occasions. Weddings, milestone birthdays and anything else where the flight is part of the day.

Travelling with pets. Dogs and cats in the cabin at your feet, subject to the airport accepting animals.

Family travel. Children, luggage and the school run to a departure gate, without the queue at either end.

Crew and shift rotations. Energy and offshore work in and out of Aberdeen and the regional fields.

Valuable cargo. High value goods moved under escort, with the paperwork that goes with them.

Two ways to fly for considerably less

Empty legs

Around 40 per cent of business jet movements are flown without passengers: aircraft going home, moving to the next client or transferring between bases. The fuel and crew are paid for either way, so operators release those sectors at 25 to 75 per cent below the price of the same aircraft booked as a standard charter.

We keep our own list of these sectors, including a good number that never reach a public page. You buy the whole aircraft, not a seat.

Jet sharing

Here you buy individual seats and the cost of the aircraft is split between everyone on board. The departure is confirmed once enough seats have sold, and you travel with people you do not know.

Everything else stays the same: a private terminal, a proper cabin, and the service standards of business aviation. It is the cheapest option per person on a popular route at a popular hour.
