Private jet cost calculator
If you want a quick figure for a specific route, use the calculator below. Fill in the airports, the dates and the number of passengers, add any preference on aircraft type, and a consultant will send the calculation to you by email or messenger. The service is free and it commits you to nothing.
The number the calculator returns is an estimate for planning. A private flight is priced as a whole aircraft rather than a seat, and the final figure depends on the aircraft an operator actually has free on your dates, the airports you use, how long the aircraft waits for you and what you want on board. Where an empty leg exists on your route, the same trip can cost considerably less, and we will tell you when that is the case.

How the flight cost estimator works
STEP 1
Block time on your sector
The distance between the two airports and the cruise speed of the class you are looking at, plus taxi, climb and descent. Most operators bill a daily minimum of around two flight hours, so a short hop costs more than its time in the air would suggest.
STEP 2
Hourly rate for the class
A turboprop and an ultra long range jet differ by a factor of about six per hour. The class is chosen by your group size, your baggage and the range the sector needs.
STEP 3
Positioning
If the aircraft has to fly empty to reach you, that sector is billed too. This is the single biggest reason two quotes on the same route can differ by thousands, and the reason empty legs exist at all.
STEP 4
Airports and ground
Landing, navigation, handling and parking. Farnborough, Luton, Biggin Hill, Northolt and London City all charge differently, and out of hours movements cost more.
STEP 5
Tax
Air Passenger Duty per passenger on UK departures, and VAT where the sector is domestic on an aircraft with fewer than ten seats. Both appear on their own lines.
STEP 6
Anything you add
Catering beyond the standard tray, ground transport, pets, extra hold space, cabin crew on types where it is optional. Quoted before you commit.
Hourly rates from UK airports
Charter is priced per flight hour, which makes classes easy to compare. These are the bands we work with in 2026 for departures from British airports. They are the starting point of a calculation, not the whole of it.

Worked examples: standard charter against an empty leg
These are calculations we have run on routes we fly often, showing the same aircraft priced both ways. The charter column is a typical one way price for that class. The empty leg column is a typical starting price when a repositioning sector exists on the route, which is what makes the difference so large.

Two things worth saying plainly about that table. The savings shown are typical of these busy corridors, where repositioning is heavy and sectors come up often. On a quieter corridor, or on a sector published weeks ahead, the gap is nearer a quarter than a half. And an empty leg only exists on the operator's own dates, so the charter column is what you pay when the trip has to happen on yours. A full breakdown of prices by route and class sits on our prices page.
What it actually costs per person
A charter is priced per aircraft while an airline sells you a seat, so the only fair comparison is cost per head. Pick a route and the size of your party below and the arithmetic works itself out, including how it stands against a business class ticket on the same day.
What moves the price most
Aircraft class. The largest single factor. Moving from a light jet to a heavy jet on the same sector can more than double the figure.
Where the aircraft starts. One already at Luton costs less than an identical one that has to fly in from Geneva to collect you.
Fuel. Roughly a third of the cost of a charter, so quotes move with the fuel market as well as with demand.
Waiting time. A day trip where the aircraft sits and waits is usually cheaper than two one way sectors, but not always. We price both.
Season and event weeks. Wimbledon, the Monaco Grand Prix, half term, the ski season. Demand pricing is real and it is worth planning around.
Crew hours. A late return can push the crew past their duty limits and require a night stop, which is charged.

Questions we get about the calculator
How accurate is the estimate?
Close enough to plan a budget around, and not a quote. The firm figure comes back from a consultant once we know which aircraft are genuinely free on your dates, and that price goes into the contract unchanged.
Is the price per seat or for the aircraft?
For the whole aircraft. Bring anyone up to the certified capacity for the same money. That is why a private flight becomes competitive as the group grows.
Does it include tax and airport charges?
The written calculation does. Air Passenger Duty, VAT where it applies, landing, handling and parking are shown as separate lines so you can see what is aircraft cost and what is not.
Can I compare two aircraft types?
Yes. Tell us which classes interest you and we will price the same route on each, usually three to five options at different price points rather than one figure.
Will you tell me if an empty leg is cheaper?
Always. If a repositioning sector fits your dates we put it alongside the charter price, and if your route rarely produces them we say that too rather than leaving you waiting.
Am I committed once I ask for a calculation?
No. The calculation is free and carries no obligation. Nothing is booked until you have seen the contract naming the operator and the aircraft, and signed it.
If you would rather have the exact figure now, call us on +44 7857 574938, message the same number on WhatsApp, or write to flight@empty-leg.co.uk. We can also prepare a short presentation on the aircraft that suit your route, with cabin photographs, technical detail and the terms attached to each.
Book the flight
Once the figures make sense, the booking form below is the next step. It commits you to nothing. A consultant will come back to confirm the details and put the best options in front of you.
