British regional airports are full of rules that only matter once you have booked. Leeds closes at eleven. Belfast City shuts at half past nine under a planning agreement nobody can override. Guernsey has more runway going west than east. Jersey and Guernsey sit outside the UK for customs, so the flight home needs an arrival report even though it felt domestic. Oliver knows which of those apply to your trip before it is quoted rather than afterwards.

The question he asks first

Not which airport you want, but where you are actually going. They are different questions and the answer changes the flight more often than people expect.

The north coast of Northern Ireland is closer to Belfast International than to the city airport, despite the city airport being closer to Belfast. Harrogate is nearer Leeds Bradford than Leeds itself. Anyone heading for the Cotswolds is better served by Oxford than by any London field. Tell him the destination rather than the airport and the routing usually improves.

Travelling with a dog

This comes up more on domestic routes than anywhere else, and the rules are not intuitive. Flights between the mainland, Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man need no approved route at all. Coming back from the continent is a different matter and only a short list of British airports may receive an animal on a private flight.
